You may think this has nothing to do with Hearthstone, but that's not quite true. Something I have noticed in Hearthstone as a whole is always referring to one's opponent as a guy. "He" made this play, etc. I'm not saying you need to say "this person of unknown gender" in place of "he," but just be aware that sometimes you are actually playing against a woman (or even someone who doesn't identify as either one) and be aware of how language influences perception. It's unfortunate that the English language doesn't have a good gender-neutral pronoun ("they" is finally gaining some traction but it's a bit awkward to use).

And if you want to get into tropes, Hearthstone is ripe with it (just like almost every other game).

I didn't get the impression that OP wanted to debate politics. (Although, I don't understand how basic respect for all human beings can even be debatable.) He just wanted to express his support for an inclusive community. Personally, I think it's important to make that support visible because it's often the exception to the rule in gaming.

posted a message on RNG stone

Part of what makes Hearthstone fun to watch (and not always fun to play) is the degree of RNG. It's fun to watch a tournament where 2 Rags are on the board and each opponent is a >= 8 health and has some minions on board. You hold your breath when a player clicks End Turn and when the Rag hits...... FAAAAACE it's really kind of epic. Everyone involved, winner, loser, spectators, will acknowledge that that particular win came down to RNG and not skill.

So, I definitely get your point. Like how does Shaman ALWAYS get a spell power totem? Why does Knife Juggler always hit my 1 health minion that would have given me lethal if it survived the turn? etc. It can be very frustrating when you are trying to climb ranks to get taken out by these "cheap shots."

At least there's nothing really on the line in ladder like there can be ($$$) in a tournament. Just your pride. :)

Edit: P.S. Best of luck getting to legend!

Thank you, Robert, for posting your views. I, too, think it's a good idea to simply put it out there that many people in the gaming community are totally cool and not misogynistic, homophobic idiots. Even if you aren't personally affected by what's going on, it's still important to be aware of it because ignorance provides kindling.

Though I haven't been a member here very long, I haven't seen any of this attitude on Hearthpwn, which is really fantastic. A lot of gaming forums are... well... just not a nice place to visit.

I would encourage anyone who believes in gender/race/whatever equality post a reply here. Even if you have nothing to really say, simply having tons of posts in this thread still helps. You will show others that there are actually many, many people who are decent human beings and are welcoming to anyone who shares a passion for gaming. :)

I usually stick around. There's always a chance my opponent will suffer a power outage, their cat will step on the power button, they'll suddenly get explosive diarrhea... so much RNG could happen in those 90 seconds.

This is great for taking out a Sludge Belcher. But 7 mana really hampers your ability to use it.

posted a message on Why is there no in-game chat?

Another line of thought is that In-game chat might affect ladder in that you could get information out of your opponent that would influence games.

I agree that emotes are often misinterpreted, mostly because of what the heroes themselves say. Guldan's "That was a mistake" for Sorry, seems threatening, whereas Anduin's "My apologies" seems fairly sincere. I would love to have some emoticons or something that would help convey the intentions behind the emote.
