FWIW -- Sometimes the "End Turn" button breaks. I will click and click and click but it won't end turn. Sometimes it pops half way out of its little container. Sometimes, I've made my plays, and I'm thinking so much about my opponent's response and my next turn that I don't realize I didn't hit "End Turn".

Just going to bold my responses to you SillySocks within your own post, I'm not bashing everything you say per say, just stating my thoughts on the things I'm less sold on.

Exactly, both bias' exist. Men are more likely to enter more 'logical' career paths, and women more likely to enter 'emotional' career paths. Both are necessary, but have you not considered that the reason we have bias in our male/female spread between jobs in because of our upbringing or genetics? Sure, not many women go into physics, but that's because psychology appeals to them more (a subject men rarely enter), attempts to get a 50/50 ratio on men dominated courses in the UK led to an array of female dropouts. So in this sense, I don't see any problem with there being a gender bias unless the minority gender is treated poorly in their work environments.

    <snip>

I'm a white, gay male (I'm not saying how privileged or non-privileged I feel, it doesn't matter for this line of argument) However, white straight males (based on the media bombardment of apparent female minority status) are happy to tell me that I'm privileged to be a male in society and that women have it worse than me. It shows how ridiculous feminism has got in the media, when a person who by all well known definitions, has every privilege going for him (being white, straight, and apparently being male also) feels they can assume to tell me what 'minority' has it worse than another, because hey, there are more women in our society than racial minorities and LGBT people, so I guess it's a matter of whatever 'minority' speaks louder matters more? How wonderfully ironic.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Brick. You are right that genetics has something to do with what career paths we take. But no one can say that one career appeals more to one gender or the other. Even if you took a poll of everyone in the U.S., for example, the results would be skewed, because that "appeal" is influenced by the environment each person grew up in. I think we're also underestimating the importance of role models. How many female dentists have you seen? Is it so few because dentistry appeals more to men than women? I think we can determine that's not the case since there are many, many female dental hygienists. But, you see, they have role models. Little girls know that dental hygienist is an occupation available to them. Dentist is not available to them in the same way. There is a barrier. Similarly, little boys know that dentist is an occupation they can pursue. How many male dental hygienists have you seen? Again, is it so few because the DDS is more appealing or because dental hygienist is "women's" occupation?

Feminism is really more about removing barriers for women rather than making things equal (never gonna happen) or getting special rights/privileges. Yes, we have absolutely advanced tremendously in our society in removing some of those barriers. But they're not all gone.

Sure, women can vote, get alimony (although that's really "blaming the victim," but anyway...), but look at what is happening right now. Hobby Lobby gets to deny women insurance coverage for birth control. You can say that's a religious argument, and it is, to an extent, but the reason it has a leg to stand on at all, constitutionally speaking,  is because of the "anti-women" sentiment that many people carry with them (specifically politicians, supreme court judges (hey, mostly men, surprise), tea party, far-right wingers, etc.). It all boils down to control over women. Taking control away from women. Is anyone making such a fuss over viagra or cialis, for example? It is definitely a right to have access to affordable (and since the Affordable Care Act, FREE) birth control. It is a health issue.

Also, just as an addendum because you mentioned it, so you're a white gay man. There are whole other set of privilege we can talk about in the LGBT community. Straight-looking vs effeminate, for example, makes for two drastically different experiences in the world as a gay man. You don't think you inherently have more societal privilege than a trans woman, a trans man, a black gay man, a lesbian? It's also thanks to many, many women (and men, too) that we have as safe a society as we have now for LGBT people to live in and many of those women (and men) were/are part of the feminist movement. Of course, as you know, there is still progress to be made and barriers to be removed. It's still not easy to come and be out (especially professionally), but as a white gay man there are fewer barriers in the world for you--even in the LGBT world.

    Quote from Coolstoryl3ro »

I think the one card that has recently been over nerfed is Starving Buzzard. I hated the sight of this card with those dogs so Im grateful it was nerfed. I really think this rework could honestly have been made to 4 mana however. I havent seen this card since the nerf, like at all, not even in arena. Card destroyed (Unnecessary but I'm grateful. Hunters too much Ammo still)

Same experience here. It's gone extinct. I got one off a Webspinner a couple weeks ago. Gave me the sad.

posted a message on Why I am a feminist

If you haven't read it yet, there is a lot of information about feminism--its past and present state--here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism

Feminism is a collection of movements and ideologies aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, cultural, and social rights for women.[1][2] This includes seeking to establish equal opportunities for women in education and employment. A feminist advocates or supports the rights and equality of women.[3]

You will find as you read the article that the ideology is vary diverse with many sub-ideoliges branching off from it.

Many of these "but what about male rights" posts are missing the point. You are seeing feminism as a movement for special, additional rights for women. That's not what's happening. The feminist movement at is core is about ensuring that men and women being at the same starting point, that one is not disadvantaged from the other. This is where the idea for affirmative action comes from. (Whether AA in particular is a good solution or not is a whole other topic.)

Historically, women have been treated as property, thus denied many "rights" that men have always had. Women do not start out on the same level as men in our society. Look at history: Slavery, arranged marriages, suffrage, etc., etc.

It saddens me that so many people (men and women both) cannot take a moment to even imagine what life might be like for someone else. In the modern world, politics, gaming, trades, military are all considered "Boy's Club" industries, and rightly so. It is harder for a woman to succeed or even enter these industries. That fact that we are even having this conversation illustrates that there are inequalities. Some of this is also true for men. Nursing, massage therapy, child care--these are all jobs where men are a little disadvantaged because they're thought of as "women's work." Some people look down on men who choose these career paths because they aren't "manly."

When I hear "I'm anti-feminist" what that really means is "I'm deathly afraid that I'm going to lose the privileges I've grown accustomed to." It's really hard for someone with privilege to see that they actually have privilege. When a movement like feminism or women's rights or whatever begins to peel back the curtain on that privilege, it's perceived as someone wanting to take that privilege away. Which is true in a way--if everyone has privilege then no one will have privilege. But that's not really a reasonable view because the historical inequalities are so vast that it would take centuries to even get there.

As I read this thread, it's obvious in your posts whether you have privilege or not and whether you are aware of that privilege or not. It's so, so obvious to anyone who does not have that privilege.

Here is some more material that may help you understand. I hope you'll at least take the time to read some of them, maybe not with an open mind, but at least without a narrow mind.

I also want to thank everyone whose insightful posts have furthered this discussion on a very important topic. 8 pages so far, wow! :)

I think you will find the general consensus here is that if you have the cash, it's absolutely worth it. If you don't have the money, it's worth farming all the gold you can in order to buy it.
