OK just played my first 2 games. Both against Hunter. I won't make a new thread about it, so I'll write here. Of course everybody will play them. It's the fastest way to rank up, it's the fastest way to grind gold for new GvsG packs. Even if you nerf all the Hunter cards, people will start playing Zoo, or any other Mech aggro deck. And me too. I simply don't have time to play 30-minute "very-smart-and-skilled-armor-up-brawl" control matches. Unfortunately. If I had 3+ hours to play I'd gladly play Priest/Warrior/Freeze Mage too.

acelee62 posted a message on Really having a difficult time with this game. Please helpPosted in: General DiscussionI really like what Admirable said on stream during the recent Dreamhack Winter.
Control decks are hard to build (dustwise and card choice wise), but usually play themselves out due to the mana curve.
Aggro decks are easy to make, but require a lot more in-game decisions, and has more punishing effect for misplays. As for picking a deck, I personally think you should go with one that you FEEL like you know how to play and enjoy at the same time. I have all the cards for Control Warrior, but I don't really understand it (I guess I could practice more...), so I'm more comfortable with Rogue, Druid and other tempo/aggro decks - though I still make mistakes from time to time.

BlackFalcon000 posted a message on Looking for a good deck for rank climbing past 10Posted in: General Deck BuildingThere are many decks that you might try. I recommend the following:
- As Aggro, Zoo and Hunter are fast and efficient to climb ladder and don't require much skill.(best from r20-r10)
- As Midrange, Undertaker Priest and Midrange Shaman are good because they tend to have higher winrates but they climb slower than Aggro decks. However, they require average skill.(best from r10 to r5)
- As Control, Control Priest and Taunt Druid excell in this Aggro-heavy meta, tending to have the highest winrate of all decks. However, the skill required is quite high and the climbing speed is not the best.(best from r5-legend)
- Handlock and Control Warrior are viable too, but they aren't very good in this Aggro-heavy meta unless you have excellent skills with them.

Asuryan posted a message on Secret activation sequencePosted in: General DiscussionSecrets with the same activation condition go off in the order they were played. For example, if you have 2 secrets that both trigger when your hero is attacked, (like Vaporize and Ice Barrier) whichever one you played first will trigger first.
Secrets with different activation conditions will trigger in the order that their conditions are met. This is where it gets a bit weird. For example, if you have both Counterspell and Spellbender, the Counterspell will always trigger first, because the game sees you play a spell before it sees you target a minion.
If the first secret that activates makes the second secret irrelevant, the second secret won't activate. So in the Counterspell + Spellbender example, the Spellbender won't activate. It'll wait for another spell to trigger on. Misdirection or Explosive Trap don't make Freezing Trap irrelevant, so they can both trigger and one can be wasted. But if Freezing Trap was played first, it'll activate first and Misdirection won't activate, so it won't be wasted. But if you replace Misdirection with Explosive Trap, it'll still activate, because its effect is always technically relevant, since it hits heroes.

acelee62 posted a message on Underused Rogue CardPosted in: Rogueto be honest, I subconsciously play around betrayal even in constructed because I always play around it in arena. It might be pretty good against aggro decks as a tech card. Why not try it out?
The only reason I see it not being used is because it leaves a minion on the board, as opposed to just wiping all three out. But for 2 mana, it does seem like efficient removal. Combo it w/ a temporary buff from abusive sergeant and you'll have very nice 3-mana removal.

Wolfino99 posted a message on Underused Rogue CardPosted in: RogueHonestly, I've never been a rogue player although I used to play miracle quite a bit. Betrayal is good value but it relies too heavily on your opponents board to be great. You can never be sure if you will use it in a game and while its pretty good against aggro, its almost worthless against control. Sometimes its amazing, but usually you get overkill on one minion if even that. Its better in lower ranks (around 20-15) since that is where most new players are and they usually don't place their minions in optimal positions. The final nail on the coffin is the fact that backstab and bladeflurry exist. Thses are two excellent removal spells and outdo betrayal on every level. There isn't any room in miracle, this card is the opposite of tempo so tempo rogue doesn't use it and there are better spells to use in value rogue.

Asuryan posted a message on Underused Rogue CardPosted in: RogueIt sees a lot of play in Arena. I guess in Constructed it's just too situational.

DreamBringer posted a message on Having problems finding fair gamesPosted in: General DiscussionMy final piece of advice would be to save all of your dust, and only craft legendarys with it. (An occasional epic if your deck really needs it.)
I don't think you should be hoarding dust for legendary cards if you don't have a complete competitive deck (excluding legendaries) yet of your class. For example, a good shaman deck with the key class cards and good synergy but no Al Akir is better than a deck with 29 random junky cards and 1 legendary.

Rusery posted a message on What the future hold for Priest.Posted in: PriestI was never a huge fan of thoughtsteal and currently use Mind Vision as a later play. If you track your opponents hand you can really figure out what been held for a long time. These are the possible big drops or AOEs/combo cards you want to grab (hilarious vs Warrior/Mage). If the game goes midrange-fest, it is possible priest may have to become much more aggressive like you say. In that sense its probably going to hurt them unless they make excellent trades which doesn't always pan out well due to possible tempo loss. As you said though any change is welcome because priest is only going to get more utility and its probably going to make people forum rage.

FWIW -- Sometimes the "End Turn" button breaks. I will click and click and click but it won't end turn. Sometimes it pops half way out of its little container. Sometimes, I've made my plays, and I'm thinking so much about my opponent's response and my next turn that I don't realize I didn't hit "End Turn".

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Brick. You are right that genetics has something to do with what career paths we take. But no one can say that one career appeals more to one gender or the other. Even if you took a poll of everyone in the U.S., for example, the results would be skewed, because that "appeal" is influenced by the environment each person grew up in. I think we're also underestimating the importance of role models. How many female dentists have you seen? Is it so few because dentistry appeals more to men than women? I think we can determine that's not the case since there are many, many female dental hygienists. But, you see, they have role models. Little girls know that dental hygienist is an occupation available to them. Dentist is not available to them in the same way. There is a barrier. Similarly, little boys know that dentist is an occupation they can pursue. How many male dental hygienists have you seen? Again, is it so few because the DDS is more appealing or because dental hygienist is "women's" occupation?
Feminism is really more about removing barriers for women rather than making things equal (never gonna happen) or getting special rights/privileges. Yes, we have absolutely advanced tremendously in our society in removing some of those barriers. But they're not all gone.
Sure, women can vote, get alimony (although that's really "blaming the victim," but anyway...), but look at what is happening right now. Hobby Lobby gets to deny women insurance coverage for birth control. You can say that's a religious argument, and it is, to an extent, but the reason it has a leg to stand on at all, constitutionally speaking, is because of the "anti-women" sentiment that many people carry with them (specifically politicians, supreme court judges (hey, mostly men, surprise), tea party, far-right wingers, etc.). It all boils down to control over women. Taking control away from women. Is anyone making such a fuss over viagra or cialis, for example? It is definitely a right to have access to affordable (and since the Affordable Care Act, FREE) birth control. It is a health issue.
Also, just as an addendum because you mentioned it, so you're a white gay man. There are whole other set of privilege we can talk about in the LGBT community. Straight-looking vs effeminate, for example, makes for two drastically different experiences in the world as a gay man. You don't think you inherently have more societal privilege than a trans woman, a trans man, a black gay man, a lesbian? It's also thanks to many, many women (and men, too) that we have as safe a society as we have now for LGBT people to live in and many of those women (and men) were/are part of the feminist movement. Of course, as you know, there is still progress to be made and barriers to be removed. It's still not easy to come and be out (especially professionally), but as a white gay man there are fewer barriers in the world for you--even in the LGBT world.

If you haven't read it yet, there is a lot of information about feminism--its past and present state--here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism
You will find as you read the article that the ideology is vary diverse with many sub-ideoliges branching off from it.
Many of these "but what about male rights" posts are missing the point. You are seeing feminism as a movement for special, additional rights for women. That's not what's happening. The feminist movement at is core is about ensuring that men and women being at the same starting point, that one is not disadvantaged from the other. This is where the idea for affirmative action comes from. (Whether AA in particular is a good solution or not is a whole other topic.)
Historically, women have been treated as property, thus denied many "rights" that men have always had. Women do not start out on the same level as men in our society. Look at history: Slavery, arranged marriages, suffrage, etc., etc.
It saddens me that so many people (men and women both) cannot take a moment to even imagine what life might be like for someone else. In the modern world, politics, gaming, trades, military are all considered "Boy's Club" industries, and rightly so. It is harder for a woman to succeed or even enter these industries. That fact that we are even having this conversation illustrates that there are inequalities. Some of this is also true for men. Nursing, massage therapy, child care--these are all jobs where men are a little disadvantaged because they're thought of as "women's work." Some people look down on men who choose these career paths because they aren't "manly."
When I hear "I'm anti-feminist" what that really means is "I'm deathly afraid that I'm going to lose the privileges I've grown accustomed to." It's really hard for someone with privilege to see that they actually have privilege. When a movement like feminism or women's rights or whatever begins to peel back the curtain on that privilege, it's perceived as someone wanting to take that privilege away. Which is true in a way--if everyone has privilege then no one will have privilege. But that's not really a reasonable view because the historical inequalities are so vast that it would take centuries to even get there.
As I read this thread, it's obvious in your posts whether you have privilege or not and whether you are aware of that privilege or not. It's so, so obvious to anyone who does not have that privilege.
Here is some more material that may help you understand. I hope you'll at least take the time to read some of them, maybe not with an open mind, but at least without a narrow mind.
I also want to thank everyone whose insightful posts have furthered this discussion on a very important topic. 8 pages so far, wow! :)

Seriously though, I would really love this.

I think you will find the general consensus here is that if you have the cash, it's absolutely worth it. If you don't have the money, it's worth farming all the gold you can in order to buy it.
