posted a message on Highlander decks should be a "start of game" requirement

    Hmmm . . .

If someone finds a novel way of building a deck, or an unexpected way of using a card, it's not obvious why they ought to be punished, rather than encouraged - especially when non-Highlander Reno decks have never been close to problematic on ladder . . .

It's best to keep in mind all the times you've won games when the opponent is holding "dead" Reno cards in-hand, unable to play them because of all the duplicates remaining in their deck, rather than focus on all the times you've lost after the Reno cards come on-line.

posted a message on Pack for Spectate Quest vs 60 gold ?!

Packs are generally thought to be worth 100 dust, rather than 90 - since they cost 100 gold, the two in-game currencies are equivalent (which makes a lot of sense.) As a result, getting a free pack, even when you have all the cards, is worth more in the long run than re-rolling a quest and hoping for 60 gold. However, in the short term, you'll likely get a bunch of 40 dust packs, and then open a bunch of epics, golds or legendaries - so if you don't have the patience to wait for a "big score" you might find it more rewarding to simply re-roll.

posted a message on Is wild (big) deathrattle hunter still viable?

Egg Hunter isn't really a meta-deck, so there are as many different builds as there are pilots. Anyone interested in the deck should probably check out Duwin's lists - he's the top Hunter pilot in Wild, and has spent most of his time post-expansion running a bunch of different Egg lists.

Here's a link to his most recent tweet, and three of his builds -

    https://twitter.com/DuwinHS/status/1252956135243558913?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

FWIW - I prefer the more aggressive lists, and ended up experimenting with Fungalmancer, as Cube proved too slow against other fast decks during my climb. The deck has a very favourable match-up against Mage - I'm not sure why the other fellow was suggesting the match-up was "auto-lose". In general, any deck in Wild that can consistently do stupid shit before turn six is going to be viable, and capable of hitting Legend in the hands of a half-decent player. The more aggressive Egg Hunter lists can certainly do lots of stupid shit in the early- to mid-game. No site tracks the format well enough to offer any great data on Wild tiers, but my guess is that fast Egg decks are Tier two-ish, and the slower decks are Tier three-ish.

posted a message on Does Zephrys the Great prove rigged card draw/discover system?

To be fair - the mods typically lock these sorts of threads because they mostly consist of folks shouting at each other and violating the posting guidelines for the site (which everyone agrees to abide by when they sign up . . .) This particular thread doesn't appear to be any sort of exception - unsurprisingly, some folks think the game is rigged, while others don't. Every once in a while, someone gets so worked up about the issue that they'll convince themselves they need to post an earnest, autobiographical wall-of-text explaining how they became true-believers. It shouldn't be necessary to explain why a casual gaming fan-site isn't an appropriate place for that kind of bullshit - or the vapid responses the bullshit elicits.

As the others have pointed out, the system remembers which cards you've opened, not which cards you've chosen to dust. You won't get the dusted cards until you collect every other card of the relevant rarity - then, you'll randomly get the dusted cards in future packs. The relevant text from the announcement is -

"If you get a card that you don’t want, you can disenchant it and you will not receive it again until you have all cards of that rarity from that set."

OP just said that he recieved duplicate rares which should be impossible if he doesn't have Skull of Gul'dan, and Imprisoned Antaen

Please re-read the announcement - the new system doesn't check which cards you have in your collection, but only considers which cards you've opened. Not receiving the cards he dusted isn't "impossible" - rather, it was specifically emphasised in the announcements as one of the upgrades of the new system. If you open a card, but choose to dust it, the system remembers that you don't want it, and doesn't offer it to you again until you open every other card of the same rarity from that set. Once you open every card from that rarity, you will then be offered random cards of that rarity in future packs - the cards you chose to dust won't be prioritised.

posted a message on Switching into standard only mode

I've helped organise quite a few FSGs in Toronto over the years. I typically give the following advice to players inquiring about dusting their old cards -

If you aren't too heavily invested in HS, and really only play it in order to have fun, then dusting old cards isn't a bad idea, since it allows you to make a few more decks when the HS calendar cycles into a new year. Otherwise, I'd advise against it - just continue playing Wild, and continue playing the decks that you've enjoyed playing for the past two years.

Often, folks who dust their old cards are on the verge of "checking out" - they don't really enjoy the game as much as they used to, and value dusting their favourite decks more than playing them. If you fall into this category, I'd advise simply taking some time off - your collection will still be there six months from now, if you decide to come back, and the game will give you a shit-ton of free stuff. In my experience, folks who aren't enjoying the game, but who try to spark their interest by dusting old cards and crafting new ones mostly end up quitting anyway - and they can't really return in the future, since they've dusted the better portion of their collection.

    In any event, GLHF.

posted a message on Cards That Should be Good
    Quote from ManThighs >>
    Quote from ArcyroX >>

I belive I could think of so many cards, so I just looked at some legendaries. because in my opinion, a shit legendary is what makes a player really sad when you get it in your packs instead of a cool one

Wardruid Loti is such a flexible card, when it announced, I thought like every druid deck would have it, well unfortunately it is not played that much.
Commander Rhyssa I think the card is in the wrong class though. Hunter maybe? I'm not so sure but some paladin secrets do nothing if they trigger twice.
Dragon Soul is another one I think. We all know what priest did with Lyra the Sunshard. I am actually surprised that such an ongoing, hard to counter mechanic is actually not good. I thought that like even if it got activated once it would mean value but whatever.
Madame Lazul omg man I actually cannot believe that this card is not good. 3 mana 3/2 that shows 3 cards your opponent is holding and gives you a copy of one of them... I thought it would be crazy.
Krul the Unshackled I thought this card will be used to summon 2 Doomguards and some other huge demons but I never seen it on ladder.
Hobart Grapplehammer buffs every weapon in your hand AND deck, and comes as a 2 mana 2/2. oh boi I dont know but it sounded so crazy to me at first.
Murozond the Infinite I mean c'mon, get a copy of a possible good turn and get a free 8/8? sounded broken.

and finally, Illidan Stormrage just doesn't deserve to be such a weak card. one of the most iconic characters in lore, but never sees any play in hearthstone.

Murozond is used a lot, not sure what you're talking about. It's key for Togwaggle Priest, and it's played in every control deck.

Looking at the HSReplays numbers, the card has a play-rate of under 1% in both Standard and Wild. In Standard, its play-rate in Quest Priest and Galakrond Priest is about 20%.

posted a message on New expansion reveal soon!!
    Quote from goolug >>

Couple more days before the new expansion is revealed. Anyone else excited?. April is the release date and we are 1 day away from March.

Blizzard's HS Community Manager posted on reddit yesterday, explaining that "we’ll have more information on what’s next for Hearthstone in mid-March." Unfortunately, you'll be waiting a couple weeks, rather than a couple days.

posted a message on Crafting Zephrys and Alex now
    Quote from yeah2see >>

Kronx, Heistbaron and Flik are cruicial cards for sure.

You could get away with not having Edwin

FWIW - I mostly played Reno Hunter and Reno Rogue to rank 5 this month, and my Rogue deck lacked both Edwin and Heistbaron, and I only crafted Flik this past weekend.

Hench-Clan Thug is a fine budget replacement for Edwin, while Spirit of the Shark is equally acceptable as a substitute for Heistbaron - the deck runs a bunch of lost-cost Battlecries and Combos, and you can also set up a 4-dragon Alex against a lot of opponents in the late game, if necessary. Both cards have been main-decked in Rogue off-and-on since they were released, so you aren't really hurting yourself too much if you include them.

Prior to crafting Flik, I ran Evasive Wyrm - it fulfils a similar role, and looking at the HSReplays numbers, the dragon actually has a slightly better played win-rate in Rogue decks than Flik (54%>52%.) It's hard-to-remove, and with 5-Attack it's a good beat-stick when it survives the opponent's turn, which isn't uncommon.

posted a message on (Poll) Are We Willing to Give up Dust Refunds for Frequent Balance Patches?

    Hmmm . . .

The game already has regular balance patches - with next week's patch, we'll have had seven this year. Apparently, lots of folks wanted eight, owing to Doom in the Tomb - but it was a temporary event. Presumably, balance patches are only "needed" in order to address legitimate game-play imbalances. But if that's the case, there really isn't any schedule that can be followed - patches are issued when there are genuine problems, and otherwise not. If the OP is suggesting that the game requires a schedule, and that Blizzard should regularly intervene even when there are no genuine balance issues, I suspect few players would agree - "every month, we change 10 to 20 cards, for the sake of changing 10 to 20 cards." When balance changes are too frequent, it undermines the point of collecting any cards at all - why bother, if dozens of them are going to be changed for no other reason than changing them?

In any event, linking any of these matters to a hypothetical forfeiture of players' dust refunds is a complete non-sequitur. No one is "having trouble wrapping their heads around" the OP's suggestion - it simply doesn't make any sense.

posted a message on Brawl Reward unfairness

FWIW - the greedy bitches at Blizzard have given everyone ten free packs over the past three days. A free Legendary from BlizzCon. Two free golden rares. A new play mode and the rewards associated with it. We'll be getting six more free Legs in about a month. Complaining about receiving a slightly worse reward from the weekly free reward dispenser seems comparatively petty - there are legitimate complaints, after all, regarding game performance on mobile, among other pretty obvious issues . . .

posted a message on Any Kind Soul Well-Versed in Meta who’s willing to help a scrub like me? :^)
    Quote from chrismorri93 >>

Hey y’all, quick backstory I recently started playing 2-3 weeks ago, started off liking mage and now warmed up to shaman quite a bit. I spent some money on classic card packs so I have a good amount of cards and dust, the problem is when I start to build/ fine-tune decks I literally feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of cards, combinations, synergy, and the correct or “best” way to capitalize on those things.

Three big problems I have are:

    1. Not knowing what ratio of lower (0-3) and higher (4-7+, just the way I think about it lol not even sure if that’s how pro’s look at it) mana cards to have

    2. Not knowing whether to use an archetype, and if so which one works best (Murloc, mech, pirate, elemental, beast, dragon, etc.

    3. Not knowing how many minions vs. spells/ secrets to have, what ratio of high mana minions and spells to low cost, if I should have duplicates of certain cards of not

On top of that I’m just starting to learn about the different deck types, like Tempo, Control, Aggro, Zoo and i just feel overwhelmed and like I have OCD when I start adjusting my decks lol. Is there a good guide/ video/ YouTube channel that you know of to learn the like, “meta basics” I guess? I understand the super-beginner basic stuff, but I feel like I’m drowning trying to get a good grasp on the higher level meta stuff. Any help greatly appreciated!!

You might find it useful to watch a few of TrumpSC's YT videos. He's been one of the top educational HS streamers since 2013, and he has a few series called "Trump's Teachings".

Here's a link - he's got about 30-40 videos in two or three different series. The Basic Teachings series is what you should probably watch - the Deck Teachings are out-of-date.
