posted a message on How can I defeat Control Paladin?

I've had no success against it, but I have read people saying that if you save your Hex for their big threats (I guess Tirion and Rag?) that you can "delete" their win condition. Not clear to me if that's right; what is true is that they run essentially no threats before Cairne at 6, so maybe the best strategy is to give him virtually no value on his board clears; hero power every turn possible and don't give him more than a single card on the board to clear at any given time. (Hero Power totems aren't cards.)

But as I said, I've had no success against. It's possible that it's just the kind of matchup that you can't win unless he makes several mistakes.

The SMOrc title is a bit misleading, I think. Hex is too slow for a real face deck (use Earth Shock instead), as is Master of Evolution. There's nothing wrong with not being a pure face deck, but if you try to play this list like old Aggro Shaman and avoid trading, you may not do so well.

Nah. Even if this specific list doesn't work, Master of Evolution and Thing From Below are good crafts if you want to play Shaman in Standard.

But I might not craft all of it right off the bat. I'm not sold on Hammer of Twilight or Hallazeal yet, and I'm going to wait and see if they really play well in Midrange before crafting them.

Consider dropping a Novice Engineer. The deck needs draw, but 2x Loot Hoarder, Thalnos, 1x Novice Engineer, 2x Arcane Intellect, and 2x Acolyte is a ton of draw. The one extra card from Novice Engineer will rarely make or break, but Antonidas can win games by himself and is very useful in the mirror matchup.

I disenchanted my BGH and expected everyone else will do the same. And lost two Dr. Dooms to them already, it was completely unexpectable to me. Seems like Control Warrior players don't think fast enough and keep playing them.

Why would you think everyone else would stop running it? The card text remains unique and powerful, and it was never dropped without a target unless the user is so far ahead or so far behind that it's irrelevant. It's going to remain a staple.

I hate Flamewreathed Faceless in the current aggro incarnation. Never step on your Doomhammer, and don't add a card that's expensive (relative to other cards in this deck) and also bad if you draw it late game.

I think you definitely drop the two Lava Shocks for Sentinels. I was running 2 Whirling, so I'll replace that with 2 Flame Juggler. Leper Gnomes get replaced with Worgen Infilitrators , because you can't afford to miss a turn 1 play. Crackle replacement is not obvious; you can add Wolfriders, but they are shittier in every way. I think my plan right now is just to hope that the loss of Belcher and Healbot compensates sufficiently.

I agree with those seeing insufficient late-game threat and insufficient draw. The dearly-departed Neptulon did both, and his loss stings, in my opinion.

In terms of late-game threats to replace Boom and Neptulon, there is nothing in the new set, so I think you've got to fall back to Ragnaros. In terms of draw, you have to include more draw minions, including a Loot Hoarder and a Thalnos if you have one (boosts Lightning Storm and/or Elemental Destruction into the bargain).

Midrange Shaman's midgame definitely got stronger with the evolve cards, but I am concerned that it will not have the punch or cards to finish strong.

No point in dusting it if you plan to run it in decks today and tomorrow, though. And most mid-range decks will. So save your disenchantin' finger the wear and tear; if you're absolutely certain you will keep using it, a full dust refund is no inducement.

posted a message on Which nerfed cards are worth keeping?

Really don't think Leper Gnome survives in the meta. Yes, aggro is all about face, and yes, in most scenarios you lost 1 face damage at most. But the reason an all-face playstyle even works is that it forces your opponent to make desperation trades to keep you from pushing even more face damage. Leper Gnome now dies for free to the vast majority of drops in the game, so it is not playable. Worgen Infilitrator is the replacement, and then Face Hunter can sub in Fiery Bat tomorrow. (Aggro Shaman just gets worse.)

BGH is the only nerfed card that I didn't bother to dust. The effect is too powerful to forego completely.

posted a message on [Standard] Aggro Shaman - Use this deck at the start of the Meta!

I think the Leper Gnome nerf knocks it out of the deck. It now no longer trades with Peddler, Knife Juggler (to the extent anyone's still running that), King's Elekk, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Flame Imp, or Taskmaster. Worgen Infilitrator is the better pick.

And with all that overload, you are going to need Eternal Sentinel very badly. Swap out a Huge Toad and a Tuskarr Totemic for two. Or hell, swap out both Tuskarrs; they're a bit too slow for this deck anyway.

Voted Shaman, but we said that when TGT launched, too. Don't sleep on how bad that hero power is and how much it can hold the class back.

posted a message on New Shaman Card - Evolve

Semi-crossposted from the Flamewreathed Faceless card discussion: one of Shaman's class features is minions that are overstatted for their base mana cost due to overload. Examples include Totem Golem, Earth Elemental, Fireguard Destroyer, and now the new Faceless.

Evolve (and Master of Evolution) synergizes very poorly with cards with like that, which is a concern. Makes it kind of surprising that Blizzard chose Shaman as the home of this new-ish "swap up" mechanic.

posted a message on New Shaman Card - Flamewreathed Faceless

One thing I just realized--it has pretty extreme anti-synergy with Evolve and Master of Evolution. That's too bad, because I expect all three to make the biggest impact in board-centric midrange decks. (Totem Golem and Earth Elemental are other examples of class cards that work very poorly with the "swap up" evolution mechanic.)

I'm not sure why some people are expecting this to be a staple of Aggro Shaman. In fact, I think it may intentionally be designed to fit poorly into Aggro Shaman. You never want to overload on 4 if you can avoid it, because it steps on Doomhammer, your primary win condition. And the deck is also designed to lose board in the mid-to-late game and finish with burst from hand; this guy doesn't do that at all, and would be an atrocious topdeck for those times when all you need is the last burst of lethal. Finally, he's a poor Tunnel Trogg activator, because you can't coin into him after dropping Trogg on 1.

Don't get me wrong--it's a good card and will see play in Midrange. But it does not fit with the existing Aggro archetype.

It gives a giant end-of-the-curve threat option available though. Yeah you're right aggro doesn't generally want to overload on turn 4 - you want to do so on turn 3 with Feral - but we've seen people tinkering with hybrid solutions that aim to keep the board for a while and then end with the burst from hand. I don't know, I wouldn't rule out this card yet
I think the thing that makes me most skeptical is that its top-deck value is very limited, because it has no immediate effect on the board. There are a few cards like that in the current list, such as Totem Golem and Feral Spirit, but both find a place because they help you protect your deadliest minions (Trogg and Zap-o-matic) and develop your early board presence. This does neither.

It could end up in some kind of aggro shaman deck, but that deck would have to look pretty different from the current highly successful list.
