posted a message on Dumb wins and losses

We've all had them, dumb ways to win or lose games. I had 3 separate games today with stupid things happening on my side and on my opponent's:

#1: Player plays Ysera into my Mirror Entity. I was way behind, but he nearly cleared his own board killing off my free minion. I ended up winning thanks to that blunder...

#2: I have 2 health with a Mirror Entity. Enemy has 3 minions frozen on the board. I have lethal on the board, but am 2 damage short. My opponent plays the Owl, silencing MY MINION instead of his 6 damage minion. Sure he would have lost if it had been Vaporize or Ice Barrier - but he would lose if he didn't at least try.

#3: My enemy is at 6 health, I'm at 2. I draw Pyroblast. Instead of just nuking him, I attack his face - only to trigger his Explosive Trap...

Black Temple > Karazhan, in my opinion - cooler boss mechanics. Of course, since Illidan was the final tutorial boss, some may not like him as an Adventure Boss. (Of course, if he's coming back for revenge after losing during the tutorial, we have a more cohesive story!)

posted a message on Dust Prophet Velen?

General consensus is that it is one of the weaker legendaries overall, possibly the weakest class legendary (I think the Hunter Legendary is the only other contender). I've had the card for a few months, and even when TRYING to get some value out of it I've never felt any real impact from it.

    "11359 pack ... The drop chances was found to be C = 70.0 %, R = 21.4 %, E =4.28 %, L = 1.08 %, G.C = 1.47 %, G.R = 1.37 %, G.E = 0.308 % and G.L = 0.111 %"

I'm glad someone put these details, because I can't get to the actual write-up from work. :)

Is it worthwhile to turn my current golden card count into an estimate of # of packs opened? Or do the numbers have such a large breakpoint that it would generate any useful info?

posted a message on Redemption + kel'Thuzad = OP like no other Combo ever!!!

I don't like Redemption with Kel'Thuzad. KT is very weak on an empty board, which means most of the time there are other minions to kill and trigger the secret BEFORE killing KT.

The Reincarnate combo, on the other hand, is pretty strong even with no other minions on the board. It isn't AMAZING, but it is strong. Of course, if you do have 1 or 2 other minions on the board and THEN play KT + Reincarnate... well, chances are you are going to win in the next turn or two.

posted a message on To those that ignore this card...

Baron Rivendare is a weak card, even with most of the death rattle cards available, mainly because of cost. Who cares if my guy's death rattle does 4 damage instead of 2? Getting 2 Damaged Golems is nice, I guess, but Baron's stats are so low it just doesn't really matter.

That said, I had exactly ONE time where the Baron won me a game:

I have Loot Hoarder, Fire Elemental, and a Flametongue Totem between them.

My opponent plays an Ancient of War.

I play the Baron and run the Loot Hoarder into the 5/10 taunt, drawing 2 cards. One of the cards I pulled was Ancestral Spirit. Played the Spirit card on my Fire Elemental, ran him into the taunt, and got 2 fresh Elementals 6/8s back. My opponent conceded.

posted a message on opposing deathlord death rattle Kel' onto the board question

KTs effect is an "aura" and triggers at the end of every turn he's on the board. Doesn't matter if the minions are killed while he's there, or if he's dropped and then they die - if he's alive at the end of the turn, he "goes off" and brings all his dead buddies back.

posted a message on Yong Woo's answer to more deck slots is downright insulting

I don't need, want, or care to have more than 9 decks. Shoot, 2 or 3 of my "decks" are actually just dead lists that I haven't actually filled out. However, as someone else mentioned, I would love an Import / Export option. Blizzard doesn't want the "less technically minded" individual to be overwhelmed with options, fine. But for those of us who understand a little more than "power: on," give us the ability to quickly save a deck (as a CSV file) and then later import the deck back into the game.

    Problem solved, IMO.

Long story short is I LOVE my shaman reincarnation deck.  It's so fun.

This is the best part of the KT shenanigans - they are just fun. I assume this is what people feel like when they do a 20+ damage turn using Leeroy combos, but I don't have that card so haven't had that thrill. And the best part is that Reincarnate is such a flexible card, I don't feel like it's ever really a dead card.

That's because 7 mana for something that gets so easily removed / so gimmicky, is generally a terrible idea.

Most 5 drops and some 4 drops take a dump on Illidan and the Flame of Azzinoth is just laughable, plus how many do you get, 1/2? Even if you had 6, they die to a breeze, even Arcane Explosion, and they have no charge so you don't even get to use them.

Can people actually know the stats/costs of the cards before replying? Thanks.

Um... huh? He's correct - the Flame of Azzinoth does, indeed, die to Arcane Explosion.

I have had limited success with Illidan - and only exclusively incases where I had a perfect hand: Illidan, Innervate, Power of the Wild, Innervate, Power of the Wild (or something similar). Basically, a standard token druid "fill the board" play that costs more (because Illidan is more expensive than Violet Teacher) and thus harder to pull off. Would he be a better card if changed? Sure. Do I think he needs to be changed? Nope.

Hate to sound cynical, but welcome to the 21st century of agendas from gaming companies.

It isn't really cynical, and it isn't exclusive to 21st century agendas. It's always been about cash. Oh, sure, most people start in the gaming industry because they want a job that they enjoy, but they also want a job that pays the bills.

As for the topic at hand - once I collected all the commons and at least 1 of every Rare, I stopped really looking at the cards I get from packs. If it isn't a purple or orange highlight, I'm not really looking at what I got. This leads to a few rare surprises when I go to dust my latest pack and don't get my normal 40 dust, because I happened to open one of the Rares I didn't have 2 of (at this point I have 3 Rares I'm missing completely and another 9 I only have 1 of). Since I don't know what my last 5 cards were, I can't be upset that I'm getting 3 Coldlight Seers in a row...

I'm having fun with a Naxx themed Reincarnate Shaman. Nothing more fun than getting continuous respawning death rattles with a Baron Riv / KT combo.

This. I had a few games this weekend where things were basically even until I dropped Kel'Thuzad and the cast Reincarnate on him. Even with nothing else on the board, cleaning out TWO KTs is frustrating. Add in even one other minion and it becomes a downright unwinnable situation.

posted a message on Replayabilty of Naxx

I've defeated all of Naxx, but still have one thing I want to do: I really want to beat KT where the killing blow is dealt by Mr. Bigglesworth. This means I have to beat him with a Hunter, while also running Animal Companion, AND possibly running a Brewmaster to get the cat in my hand (so I can play it only when it will give the killing blow). It's a stupid challenge, but it's something I want to do.

As for general replay, I've still had some fun with some of the challenges. Hunter is fun, Warlock is a little fun. I beat the Warrior challenge first try, but only because at 3 health I managed to pull both Armorsmiths and a Whirlwind effect. So I may play the Warrior challenge again.

Oh, and Naxx is a GREAT training mode for my daughter. She likes the game, but hasn't really learned much. So I can sit with her doing Normal mode single-player AND Naxx to present her with some different challenges. Maybe this replayability isn't applicable to many, but it works for me.

posted a message on New & Viable Hero Powers?
    Quote from Hush_Hush »

I hope that was sarcasm... this is actually incredibly over powered... if there is one minion, does it ping minion and hero? all most every instance this will be better than mage ability especially when utilized in a proper deck. its like having knife juggler as a hero ability.  They would almost have to give the DK no AoE abilities.

While I'm not saying the Hero Power is perfectly balanced, I also think it's already less overpowered than you imply specifically because of mechanics already in the game. Consider this: I have a 2/3 on the board, my opponent has an Amani Berserker. I have to choose - do I attack his Minion and then Hero Power OR do I Hero Power first? If I attack + Hero Power, my minion survives, but his Minion is enraged and STILL might survive. If I Hero Power first, I'm either guaranteed to lose my minion, or (if I'm not willing to trade my 2/3) guaranteed to NOT finish his minion.

And it gets even worse if your opponent happens to use several "when taking damage" minions (*cough* Warrior *cough*). Oh, that Armorsmith is at one health? Well, I can't Hero Power because the Acolyte of Pain next has full health. My Hero Power is more than likely to draw him cards than it is to finish off that annoying Armorsmith.

A Hero Power with some limited randomness COULD result in lesser cards being played specifically to weaken the Hero Power.
