I always put my win condition, or at least what my deck is trying to accomplish, first. Then I build around that and, as I go I ask myself, what cards will synergize with and help me accomplish whatever it is i’m trying to do. I hate netdecking and think it makes the game boring so all my decks are homebrew and I’ve managed to hit legend and at least D5 each month with them. Of course it didn’t start out like this it takes time to get a sense of what works in your deck. Play games and during each game ask what cards are working well in your deck and what cards are clunky and/or not as valuable for you deck as you thought. The best way to practice imo and what I did when I first started making my own decks is to netdeck a deck you like or want to play and then tweak it with cards of your own to make it either fun or a different combo etc. then branch off eventually to start making your own decks.
