The OTK game board (Un’Goro) is just so broken!  Talk about “fun and interactive”!  I know that my opponent just has to tap a drum, a leaf, a shell, and then two more leaves and there’s ABSOLUTELY NOTHING I CAN DO!!  On his screen, he is seeing the volcano erupt all over the place.  Great job, Blizzard!

    No RNG happens.

I need to try this. This isn't netdecking, is this ?

     Net...boarding?

And I don’t understand why people complain about netboarding.  After a new game board has been out for a few weeks, the community has figured out which bits should be fiddled with and in which order.  I don’t have the time or money to try to come up with my own ways to fiddle with these game boards!  So it makes the most sense for me to have somebody else tell me how to play with these little fiddly things.

posted a message on Game Boards Are 100% RNG!!

So, I was grinding the Pandaria game board earlier this week, and it finally hit me like ton of cardbacks: these game boards are like 99.9999% RNG!  The three watermelons are always there at the start, but there doesn’t seem to be any skill involved to being able to squash them and get them to grow up all boots, or the elusive golden turnip.  And don’t even get me started on the teleporter on the GvG game board!!  The pros all like to mess with the levers, but it too is just a slave to RNGsus!

I don’t know if I want to spend anymore time or money on this game.  There are so many other great game boards out there like the BRIO wooden labyrinths that have ZERO RNG and are all just about your own skill.

Ugh!  I don’t even think there’s a standard order to which teams show up on the new Rastakan’s Rumble game board when you tap the button in the middle of the roof in the top right corner.  Yet ANOTHER expansion where we can’t expect skill to play a role!

I experience a completely illogical amount of anxiety when my opponent plays Northshire Cleric on turn 1.  I do absolutely everything in my power to bring that minion down.

The problem with RNG is that its compliments Loss aversion.

You feel twice as bad as losing against RNG than winning with it. Thus killing your enjoyment of the game.

I don’t.  I actually feel better about it.  “Aww, he just got lucky.”

Really? You have a very different outlook than I do. I find it tilting when I outplay someone and they build 3-5 turns of perfect answer zombeasts with Deathstalker Rexxar (bring him up a lot in these discussions; he's super problematic even though I love the card). Or when Deck of Wonders saves a tempo mage after my strategy would have otherwise won the game.

I feel much better when RNG isn't the main reason I lose a match (but admittedly it is thrilling and relieving when it saves me from an otherwise bad matchup).

Well, I play for fun and to collect cards.  I’m not trying to get to top 100 legend in order to have a shot at a pro career or anything.  I have a good-paying job already, and Hearthstone is 30 minutes of fun each day (more often than not against my children).

I super agree with Valerios and hydrafrog!  Cutting the price of older packs would be amazing, and I think I would end up buying more, even though I’ve already purchased hundreds of packs of each.

It’s also the spice that makes the game really fun over the long haul.  Don’t agree?

What's fun about facing a rogue that goes T1 > Prep + Academic into T2 > Warlock DK?

What’s so bad about facing him?  You weren’t guaranteed to win or anything anyway.  Why can’t you just say “Well Played” and move on?

Meanwhile, the person who pulled that ridiculous opener is having the time of his life, and screenshotting it to be able to tell his grandchildren!

I literally could not disagree more.  The RNG is how HS differentiates itself from games like Magic (where it would be impossible anyway).  It’s also the spice that makes the game really fun over the long haul.  Don’t agree?  Just play with the basic decks that you get when you first start a HS account for a single weekend then.  And go ahead and force everyone else to play with them too.  There is no RNG in those decks aside from card draw, but the game is nowhere near as fun. Also, it provides a glimmer of hope for people that don’t have as many cards or as much skill that they might just possibly win in an impossible situation, and that is a VERY good thing in my estimation, even though I do have the cards, and have played long enough to have “the skill”.

Collecting cards and exercising creativity are the two main reasons I play, so of course I have to collect and play everything, and I don’t dust anything except gold cards (every single one).
