Groupthink can indeed produce some strong deck designs, but it also produces some myopia. When I play with my weird self-made decks, I know exactly what 95% of my opponents will play on any given turn. They have absolutely no idea what I'm going to play (although they think they do, and they make decisions based on faulty information). Just because one of my designs isn't 'meta' doesn't mean that it might not be 'tier 1' if more people knew about it and played it.
The reality is that umpteen-million HS players won't ever make it to legend rank and never have to spend even one second worrying about championship points. So why not have fun designing your own decks and enjoy the fun zone between rank 20 and 10, or even casual? It's just a much better experience.
People who lose more than they win (hereafter referred to as 'losers') always want to blame whatever they see the most often for their failure. Right now, that's pirates. They run to Hearthpwn to find something to fight it, and they don't have all the cards, so they whine about the game being 'pay to win'. Meanwhile, there's at least one guy out there wrecking pirate warriors with a ridiculous Druid Savagery deck that you can't find on Hearthpwn. Losers would have more fun if they made their own decks.
I love the cards they make, and I love the game. I think the ideas in MSoG are solid. What I don't like about this expansion is that the drop rates on packs seem turned down, and if that happened, then that's a big mistake. Maybe I've been phenomenally lucky in the past, and now I'm just getting 'normal' drops. But if that's the case, then normal sucks. I shouldn't feel bad about purchasing cards, but I've felt bad about every single purchase this time. I usually spend about $200-$300 on HS each year, and for that kind of money, you really should get pretty much all the cards. I'm not even close this year so far.
Make people feel better about the game by not being stingy with cards. It's sort of counter-intuitive, but I spend more money on the game when I am encouraged by how many good cards I get for doing so. I got burned with this newest expansion, and I didn't really want to even play for a couple of months there. I felt like I got robbed in the mean streets.
This is a great new series! I love the idea! I would also like to suggest something completely new to play that I came up with yesterday, and that shows real promise (and at least is really fun to play). Check it out!
In my opinion, your own home brew deck with no playtesting is probably better than this. If you get a great draw, you could win by turn 5, but 70-80% of the time, you're effectively playing the equivalent of a basic warrior deck.
By dealing damage to a random character and not just to a random enemy it becomes fair and also is still good against aggro.
Yes, this has been my exact idea for months. It's such a simple fix, I have no idea how Blizz can just let this card exist in its current form. They owe Leroy and Starving Buzzard a HUGE apology.

Very cool! I literally don't think I've seen anyone use Naga Sea Witch even once since it was released. I'd love to give this a try just for that!
