I hated it while it was un-nerfed loool, in Wild atm it's a fair and fun deck though, I think it would be ok nowadays in Wild even un-nerfed considering the power level of other meta decks, it would also make the Big Priest match-up much easier and wouldn't require setting up an OTK

posted a message on The problem wasnt even Barnes

I was spamming every big priest thread since last year saying that nerfing barnes is wrong. Yeah it helps a bit, but the deck will still overwhelm 95% of decks in the mid range and late game due to bullshit resurrect spells. Everything fast loses to statue (lich king too sometimes) and everything slow loses to spellstone/vargoth. Think about this a bit, the most optimal big priest lists usually have 2 spellstones and 1 mass ress, ideally for them if they pull 2 more of these from shadow visions you basically need to have 5 twisting nethers to clear that off, not to count the 4 resurrects before those waves and 2 smaller copies from shadow essence which pretty much remove any chance of you having any board. Bullshit deck that should have never existed

This is not my list, I found it on Hearthstone-decks.net and the guy who built it got to top 100 with it, so apparently it's pretty solid but sadly I don't think that player streams, I think he's just a top Asian player.

I only posted it after I got to Legend with it, like with most of the decks I post here just to show people it's possible, since the Legend meta is usually much different and is easier to climb with certain decks, I got to top 100 with Reno Hunter yet I couldn't move past rank 2 with it, you get my point.

Anyway you have some of my replays that I posted in a comment below if you're interested in game plans, mulligans etc.

Well, against Secret Mage your general plan is to survive, so I played him because:

    1. There was no secret up, so he was safe from Explosive Runes

    2. The play allowed me to punish him by regaining 12 health and board control

    3. Playing Velen safely forces the opponent to waste 6 or 7 mana to remove him (Fireball or Cloud Prince + hero power) which is 6/7 damage that doesn't go to your face :D

Generally in the match-up when you get to the stage where you popped both Counterspells, you just use everything to heal yourself as you have enough removal to deem your opponent's minions useless.

    Hello friend,

Off the bat, I didn't face much Druid or Warrior so I didn't tech for them, tech in Skulking Geist or Dirty Rat (if combo) for Druid or Archbishop Benedictus for Warrior (which I'm guessing is mostly Odd, since it's the only Warrior deck that wins against this) if you face them very often. Remember this isn't really a high tier deck, I suggest playing it in pocket Aggro metas, it does work well against most Control decks, even some combo decks (Psychic Scream is a great stalling tool if you don't run Dirty Rat, especially against decks like Shudderwock which play a bunch of useless tokens), but like I said, best play this in an Aggro meta to prey upon most decks :)

Bloodmage Thalnos serves mostly as a token for draw and Spirit Lash, you could try running Azure Drake if you don't want to craft Thalnos or simply put in Northshire Cleric.

Here are some replays so you can see how I played the games out, what I kept in hand etc.:

It gets so fucking boring reading the priest players responses in these threads - you know what they are gonig to say before you even read them - play a counter - shaman with devovles/hexes - mage with polys - mage with exxodia - aggro....

You wankers don't read. Or willfully ignore what is stated maybe 20 fricking times by different people in this thread

Gameplay matters in videogames. Big Preist directly punishes you for removing, trading, or even playing minions of your own - THE fundamental mechanic hearthstone revovles around. It could be Big Priest was a tier 4 deck, rather than a high tier 2, or even tier 1 deck IT WOULD NOT MATTER - the deck ruins the game with the way it plays.

Stop falling back on the idea that your deck can be beaten...we don't care. It really doesn't matter. Punishing players for just playing and trading minions in hearthstone is not ok. What matters is the way this archetype has abused poorly dev'd mechanics in the game to esseintally break it, and turn it into a high-roll cow cow-clicker for both players invovlved in any Big Priest matchup, at any level on the ladder. A win against a big priest feels as shitty as a loss.

Preach brother. I won't lie I used to give excuses about Big Priest when I played it a bit, then I actually played against that cancer with other decks and saw how un-fun it is to even win against it, yet alone lose...

Zeph for sure.  Kazakus can lose you games where you need that one specific potion ingredient out of two tries and don't get it.  If zephyrs whiffs, it's because you failed to set it up properly

Except Zephrys isn't a human and can't always give you the best answer even though you can set him up well. I'd go for potion RNG anyday over hoping that Zephrys gives me a Poly or Hex at 6 mana against a Big Priest...

You are literally playing it wrong in the exact way the user you quoted suggested. If you want those cards then have exactly 4 mana left when you play Zephrys. If you understand how the card works mechanically it is far better, if you don't understand how the card works mechanically then read up on its notes online.

I play literally only highlander decks in ranked, got Legend last 7 months with them almost exclusively, I'm no pro but I know how most interactions work. "hoping that Zephrys gives me Poly or Hex at 6 mana against Big Priest", 6 - 2 = 4, it doesn't always give you what you want because, like I said, it isn't human and doesn't understand what you need for certain match-ups, last 2 times it gave me a Twilight Drake and Blessing of Kings lol. Most of the time it will give you an Infiltrator against secrets even though Flare would probably work better for you especially against some cancer like "tempo" mage, at least with Kazakus I know all my options and I'm likely to hit at least one of the combinations right and can work towards my game plan instead of hoping for the "perfect" answer.

Secret Mage, Combo Priest, and Even Shaman beat Big Priest. A lot of decks can beat Big Priest if you play them right.

Not really, it depends on what they draw.

You discard 2 of your highest cost cards and get 2 copies of both those cards when Merchant dies. Also if you have, for example, a 10 mana Kazakus potion besides N'Zoth and Gul'dan in hand, I believe it discards 2 cards at random so you can't setup what you want to discard.

Do you think it's better to run Emperor Thaurissan for Brann Bronzebeard + Zola the Gorgon + Gnomeferatu or is Brann Bronzebeard + Expired Merchant + Mortal Coil (on N'Zoth, the Corruptor and Bloodreaver Gul'dan enough)? I haven't faced any control decks yet, but I feel the latter is much better, I'll probably take out Emperor for Loatheb.
