Rule #1 of Hearthstone Addons: ignore anything and everything that happens in books, movies, the games or comics. Hearthstone has always been 'what if?'s and 'That'd be cool'. Or did you really assume the Darkmoon Faire once summoned all four old gods into Azeroth?
If they want Denathrius in the story, he'll be there.
Thematically the whirlpools of old were known and dreaded for pulling any ship to the depths, never to be seen again. The Maelstrom, Charybdis, etc. So I guess it's kinda fitting. ...and I have to admit the mental image of a whirlpool randomly spinning around kinda resulted in a waterpark-theme.
I think there are two main reasons why mercenaries are most likely more successful than people assume.
The first being that it just does not make for a very streamer friendly format. Even the most entertaining players had trouble keeping a few hours of repetitive content entertaining, so they seemed to drop it after a while. Which in turn makes the mode seem underplayed since it doesn't get much public attention.
The second being that Blizzard just does not share any data. It could be dying in the dust. It could be the most profitable mode ever. We just don't know.
Personally I'd wager that it's not as successful as they hoped, but doing better than people assume. It's definitely a more mobile-friendly format, and allows for a few minutes of daily entertainment before moving on to something else.
Personally I'd be more happy to see the "give a Maexxna reborn" being removed. As for Taregosa, it would maybe be easiest to put Illidan and Bru'kan into the "Doesn't get offered as a hero choice when dragons are available, or vice versa" category.
No, I think they did mean Yeti. People tend to call it that because in ye olden days of Hearthstone, Chillwind Yeti was a 4/5 card for 4 mana, that was actually a decent play on curve for its power level. So having those stats on a minion that can be played in turn 0, with rush, just makes it....well, a Yeti with rush, basically.
Yeah, it was kinda crazy to see the top 4 places in BG all ending up playing Quillboar almost every match, with the one that bought them the fastest coming out at the top.
It was kind of a "eh, might as well buy if before I waste 3 gold" card up until they released Quillboars. Now, with the blood shard mechanic, it actually leads to absurd power spikes early game. With only one or two blood shards (which are easy to get) you ensure that its frenzy effect always goes off, effectively buffing your entire board with +2/+2. Add a second blacksmith to that, and you're basically ensured that you'll swing quite a lot of encounters in your favor in the beginning.
It's certainly no ****ing arcane cannon or whatever it was called, but it definitely has turned out to be problematic very fast.
They did nerf cards with mana/stat costs before, but in the case of Tickatus I guess they'd most likely approach it by lowering the number of cards burned.
Sadly it took me ten games to win one match, and out of those, the first 9 were a Pogo-Hopper rogue. Because....why try fun combos if you can just do the same old *****.
Druid at 2 mana: 1 damage, 1 armor. Downside: You take face damage when attacking Rogue at 2 mana: 1 damage, but with 2 charges, and it is a weapon Downside: You take face damage when attacking Demon Hunter at 1 mana: 1 damage, but no charges, Downside: You take face damage when attacking
Demon Hunter at 2 mana: 1 damage, but no charges Downside: You take face damage when attacking
You see how that would make it absolute and utter trash to comparable class abilities? It'd need another modifier to be on par with them.
Another one where they might basically have done a "both players press start, one gets a win" button instead. Random spells and random Murlocs. Such. Fun.
It leaves me truly baffled that some people actually manage to complain about Jaina...smiling. OH MY GOD SHE'S SMILING! How dare she be young, or in a good mood, or anything but grimdarrrrk.

At this point, they might as well just make a Brawl that says "at the start of the game, each player casts 30 spells, let's see who wins."
So. Fun.
Didn't they at least cast a spell equal to their cost last time?
