posted a message on New Rogue Spell - WANTED

If only Gadgetzan Auctioneer wasn't in standard... then maybe this could have been a good card at 3 mana.

    But nope.

Instead we get a ludicrously overpriced removal. 3 damage is worth 2 mana generally. This spell, in exchange for +2 mana, will refund you 1 mana. And it can't go face. And it has to get the killing blow.

I love the flavor of the card, sure, but in a game that has Frostbolts, Wraths, Lightning Bolts, Flanking Strikes, Shadow Bolts, and more, this card just embarrasses itself. Heck, this card makes Hammer of Wrath start to look good...

No, especially in the class with Backstab and Eviscerate, there is no room for a spell this underwhelming.

Pretty flexible as removal. Reminds me of Forbidden Flame: you dump X mana into it, and get X damage out.

It's a bit worse in some ways:
    * it can only get damage in multiples of 2
    * it has to hit taunts first

But it is also better in some ways:
    * it can split its damage between multiple creatures
    * it has fantastic synergy with cards like Knife Juggler, Dire Wolf Alpha and Scavenging Hyena
    * it is great at triggering mage secrets.

The only real reason this might not get run is that it is a hunter card that is bad at going face. Still, I think it has potential.

Blingtron 3000. The Blingtrons are mass-produced by engineers in World of Warcraft, and are hardly unique.

I'd also argue The Mistcaller is hardly unique. There are many, many mistcallers in World of Warcraft. It'd be like making a legendary card called "The Rogue" or "The Warlock".

It's going to be hard to have this see play with the cards that are currently in the meta.

Paladin has one of the best upgrades, but losing Call to Arms is horrible for aggro, and control losing Equality is equally horrible. Won't happen.

Druid wouldn't be able to play Ultimate Infestation.

Priest would lose all the cards that make their healing effects deal damage, negating a lot of the upgraded hero power potential, Control priests would lose the death knight, and big priest would lose just about every useful card in the deck.

Warlock's upgrade isn't worth going for (and they'd lose their cubes and death knight as well)

Shaman's upgrade also isn't worth going for (and losing devolve + Hex would kill their removal options)

Rogue's upgrade is also awful (plus they'd lose all their bounce cards, auctioneer, & arcane giants...)

Hunter's upgrade is only 50% more damage, and they'd lose all secrets, Houndmaster, Savanah Highmane... Maybe quest hunter? =/

Mage has a decent upgrade and keeps all their secrets... but lose their best secret synergy in Arcanologist and Medivh's Vallet, lose their best burn in Frostbolt, Fireball, lose Aluneth, lose Primordial Glyph... ugh, so many solid cards lost.

Warrior might lose the least, although the reason warrior ran justicar was largely for anti-fatigue, and running this card would mean no Dead man's Hand...

No, I can't honestly see this seeing play.

I wonder if this keeps the handbuffs when you cast it repeatedly?

Probably not, and it probably doesn't matter much since mean streets is rotating out.

I can't see this getting used much. Still, it's a fair card. 9 mana for 12 health of taunts is in line with Sleepy Dragon, plus this is more flexible.

Fair cards don't see play though, and there's no way to cheat this out without losing its upside.

This is like Divine Favor, but much more expensive. Probably won't see play, but then again, this has the potential to draw an obscene amount of cards, so in the right meta, it might have a use.

posted a message on Patches the Pirate Loses Charge - Four Card Nerfs Coming in February

I love all these changes, but I'm a bit worried that one of the strongest decks in the format (Cubelock) appears to be untouched.

To be fair, half these nerfs don't really matter much to standard because they were about to rotate out anyway, but the creeper nerf, while very deserved, nerfs the last of aggro's chances against cubelock.

Overwatch entered public beta only a couple months after TGT, and had been in development for years prior to that.

Don't confuse the release date of a game with the time a character in it was created.

So where Tomb Pillager was a card with average stats for its mana cost and deathrattle: coin, this is a card with trash stats for its mana cost and deathrattle: coin.

It is obvious why they couldn't make it on that power level though. A coin on a good minion would be *way* too good for Raza Priest. Generate a spell with Lyra, generate another ping with Anduin, get out the combo a turn early, or just coin out a dragonfire potion a turn early... I'm glad they didn't give this good stats. It still might be run as-is.
