Before the release of Sunken City, I had been theorycrafting for years, hoping to put together a respectable Mill Druid list.
I think Selfish Shellfish is exactly what it's been missing. With stats that huge for the cost in order to justify an otherwise detrimental effect, it can be a straight up nail in the coffin, especially if you manage to play it on curve.
I love it when a mechanic that appears negative upon first glance can be nullified in a deck centered around it. Much like how Suicide Warlock was nothing more than a meme until The Demon Seed took the game by storm.
You can run 2 copies of Conch's Call and I like that it's a spell that draws a spell which guarantees you 2 hero power refreshes assuming you've played Tavish.
Ahh, so this deck’s recent popularity is YOUR doing ey? Lol. I must say, I love the idea of Corsair Cache + Wrenchcalibur. I’ve tried making Bomb Warrior decks work since Boomsday’s release. It’s nice to see an increase in viability.
Sadly I really don't think it is. I usually hover around mid-plat while using my best meta decks and I find it very difficult to win consistently with this deck in high-gold. It can win for sure, but it simply can't keep up with the common aggressive combo decks with near infinite value you'll run into.
I went ahead and added one copy to the list because I certainly acknowledge the potential, but I found two copies to clog your own hand a bit too often for my liking. I typically want my combos to have reliable potential with more than 1 card in the deck. That is the reason I run Drakkari Enchanter alongside not only Forest Guide but also Emperor Thaurissan so it's like, if you don't get one, at least you have the other.
Yes Master’s Call is very good, I didn’t include it in the list just because having Hunter Deathknight and 2 copies of Master’s Call would increase the crafting cost by a lot.
Yes absolutely, I’m currently running that card as well actually. I don’t even own the Hunter Deathknight card either even though I included it in the list. The only thing is you don’t want to run Houndmaster because it’s not a Beast.
Any other form of card draw. Swapping out Oaken Summons and Thalnos for 2 copies of Novice Engineer is perfectly fine as well.
Replacement for Ixlid: Another copy of Faceless Manipulator works just fine.
Why I use these two cards:
Thalnos is very versatile for his mana cost.
If you're getting overrun by an aggro or tempo deck, you can use Thalnos > Swipe for 6 mana and stabilize.
It's cheap easy early game draw much like Loot Hoarder and this deck also needs to survive, so Oaken Summons aids the card engine and survivability.
This deck was built similarly to how Antonidas OTK Mage decks are built and play today. Instead of Ice Blocks, you generate tons of armor. Instead of Frost Nova > Doomsayer combo you have Spreading Plague. Most of those Mage decks have typically performed better when the cheapest forms of draw are used. Cards like Novice Engineer and Loot Hoarder.
As for Ixlid, the combo with Ixlid ends up with 4 copies of Malygos on the board whereas the combo with 2 Faceless Manipulators only produces 3.
Why I prefer Loot Hoarders over Kael'thas: Most combo decks are extremely draw reliant. This is a 7-9 card combo. Your hand can get flooded very easily and milling one of your combo pieces can instantly lose you the game. I fear Kael'thas would often be a dead card in the hand because of the mana cost. I don't even like cards such as Nourish or Ultimate Infestation because of the high cost and hand-clogging effect.
Why I think it's the best list: I played the first version of this deck quite a bit when it first rose to popularity, when Aviana only cost 9 mana and it was much easier to pull off. I watched Kripparrian use it and crafted it right away because of how flashy it looked to pull off, it was so satisfying. So I figured I'd put together an updated version to fit the modern day Wild format. I just kept playing it and made tweaks until it felt the most comfortable and just as satisfying to me as it was back in the day.

Actually yes! That is certainly an option. You could even try Zola for the triple up!
