posted a message on Which late game legendaries wreck Control decks the most?

Legendaries that are good against control include but are not limited too:

    • Sylvanas Windrunner - You force an answer, and you can potentially steal an enemies legendary.
    • Dr. Boom - Not many classes have a systematic, card efficient way of dealing with this minion.
    • Neptulon - Card Advantage, similar to Dr Boom
    • Ragnaros the Firelord - 8 damage is just the right amount to be relevant for most of a control decks threats.
    • Ysera - Card advantage if it sticks
    • Vol'jin - If you have time to use this on a big threat in a control deck, you are in a good position.
    • Lord Jaraxxus - Nothing like infinite threats and a 3/8 weapon to outvalue pretty much every deck in the long game.

Honourable mentions should probably go to the likes of Rend Blackhand, Deathwing, Harrison Jones, Chromaggus, Kel'Thuzad and The Black Knight

All these cards will be good against control decks and some of them are also good against midrange and aggro in the right conditions.

Are you asking because you want advice on the control vs control matchup or because of the aggro or midrange vs control matchup?

Choosing whether to play Dr Boom so I could kill my opponent in 2 turns, or not so I don't die to Unleash the Hounds next turn. I chose Boom. It was a tricky gamble that unfortunately didn't pay off. Making those decisions is always interesting.

I tried Defias when I started out. When I started to make the deck I also had a much lower curve but some games I was struggling to close out and I didn't have enough card draw or free deck slots to fit in burst combos so I added Rag as a standalone damage dealer. I thought Defias was decent enough but I ended up replacing him for the second prep which has been a lot better, but maybe I could try and fir Defias back in. I was also thinking of the autobarber and other lower drops. The deck is fun, but you are right, oil rogue is better.

Volcanic Drakes are kinda the whole point behind the deck. If they don't fit then it means the deck design is a failure (which is a possibility I suppose). The teacher is probably not necessary, but I still feel like she is good enough in this deck and the violet apprentices can help get Volcanic Drakes out cheaply. If I sub her out, then it will probably be for another valuable minion around the same mana cost, maybe shredder.

VanCleef is also really important for the deck. One of the things this deck does well is get big minions out for not a lot of mana. VanCleef, hungry dragon, potentially Volcanic Drake. Getting big minions doing a lot of face damage while your smaller minions, weapons, spells and battlecries deal with the point of the deck.

I don't think I need two fans or two flurries in this deck, or even Tinker's Oil.

A malygos dragon deck is definitely an interesting prospect but I think the deck would look a lot different to this one.

Shiv for Novice seems like a decent call. I felt like having the body from novice was slightly better though even though shiv is faster. One of the main uses for Novice is as a combo starter and it is less awkward to drop Novice than it is to play shiv unless you are able to kill something with it (in which case shiv is amazing).

Second Flurry is overkill I think especially as I have fan of knives and skulker for aoe, and the only weapon buffs I am running are x2 Deadly Poison.

I agree that the stats on Volcanic Drake are not ideal. The 4 health break point is a bit of a weakness for this deck. However, its a pretty cool card if you can protect it, or play it on the same turn as other threats. For example, during testing yesterday I was able to coin out hungry dragon on turn 3, kill 2 haunted creepers with double backstab + preparation fan of knives, finishing off the 1 drop token with my knife. I was able to play Volcanic Drake for free on that turn. Admittedly, these types of turns don't usually happen on turn 3, but when they do happen it is often game winning.

The second sap is definitely worth considering. Though I am not convinced though that there is enough card draw to support it, and it is less useful vs aggressive decks.

Finally, I don't think Rag is too slow for this deck. He has an effect the turn that he is played, he can finish games, and he gives the deck a little bit of extra reach in just one card. I have enough cards in the deck that generate tempo, rag is one of the ways that tempo gets converted into a win. A lot of tempo mage decks run rag as well. You don't need to be ramp or control to play rag even if its true he doesn't fit in every deck. I think he fits in this one though.

This is a fun tempo deck I made with some of the new BRM cards and a few dragons.

    Dragon Tempo Rogue

    Minion (19) Ability (11)
    Loading Collection

The general idea of this deck is to use unique rogue tools like Backstab, SI:7 Agent, Preparation etc, to deal with the opponent's board while simultaneously developing big cheap threats of your own, such as the undercosted dragon threats Volcanic Drake and Hungry Dragon as well as Edwin VanCleef.

Using spells, weapons, battlecries and small minions to control your opponents board clears the way for heavy hitting Volcanic Drakes and big Edwins to hit the face very hard, leaving your opponent scrambling to recover some board presence while also trying to clear your threats. To follow up this early aggression, Dr. Boom and Ragnaros the Firelord can be dropped to make that final push for lethal. There isn't much room for big oil combos and other similar stuff you find in other rogue decks so I chose Ragnaros and Boom because of the extra face damage they can push through. I considered having a late game dragon like Ysera or Nefarian but I feel that both are too slow and don't guarantee a lot of face damage. Malygos was another card I considered but I don't use enough damage spells to justify it and the preparations are often used to facilitate big tempo plays in the midgame and can't be saved for Malygos.

The deck doesn't seem particularly bad, in fact I believe it has quite a lot of potential. It have had quite a lot of success against paladin, druid and mage. Zoolock seems like a decent matchup as well. The deck is quite vulnerable to an early rush though as there is only one source of healing in the deck and no taunts. It is possible to race a hunter but this is quite draw dependent. Hungry Dragon is very powerful but it doesn't help much against the most aggressive decks if you have to use your knife on the 1 drop. Common sources of 4 damage are another problem for this deck as a lot of the synergy revolves around Volcanic Drake, Blackwing Corruptor, and Azure Drake which all have 4 health. I believe that this is one of the weaknesses of the dragon tribe in general. Sometimes the deck runs out of cards as well, and there is no sprint in the deck. This is ok if you are able to make a big tempo play that deals a lot of damage to your opponent and some or all of your board persists but if you fall too far behind it can be a problem.

I would like to hear your criticisms or comments on the deck. And if you like the deck and give it a go on ladder please let me know how you it goes, and if you made any changes to the deck I would be very interested to hear about that. My decklist is not final so I am looking for ways to improve the deck.

posted a message on So, who's ready for a Flamewaker nerf?

It costs 1 mana more than Knife Juggler and even though it gets more pings per activation, once you have cast a spell thats it whereas the minion that triggered Knife Juggler is still around after the juggle. Flamewaker's activation is harder to achieve and not as good for board state, so the effect should be better than Knife Juggler.

posted a message on 12 Win Decklists.

I went 12-2 with this rogue deck. I have gone 12 wins before but I was co-piloting the deck with my brother and we were drunk and managed to draft about 10 fire elementals, al-akir and hogger so I don't count that one. This is the first 12 win on my own.

    Rogue Arena (12-Wins)
Export to BBCode Export to Cockatrice Export to MarkDown Export to Html Clone this deck
    Minion (18) Ability (10) Weapon (2)

The stars of the show were my 2 mana 2/3s. I was lucky and drew them very regularly in the early game. Coining one of them out followed by dagger up was usually followed by a win, especially as I could protect my minions with 3 backstabs.

No eviscerates, but I did have assassins blade, tinkers oil and 2 blade flurries for burst and 2 assassinates for removal so I was happy with that aspect of my deck. Bomb lobber also got me some excellent tempo plays that contributed to several wins.

I didn't feel like I had many late game bombs, but drakonid crusher was very good, especially since my deck played aggressively enough to reliably get my opponent down to 15 health between turn 6 and 9 when I wanted to play him. Having him in the deck did make me play more aggressively, but thats no bad thing because this deck wasn't gonna win drawn out control games anyway.

Kezan mystic was bad. I think I only stole one secret with it against a hunter but it was snake trap and it wasn't helpful and I lost anyway. It was the best card of the 3 when I drafted it but I would have much preferred a different 4 drop.

I thought gadgetzan would be bad but I did have 3 backstabs and even a sap (another card I did not expect much of) so I didn't feel too bad about picking it especially as the other options were bad. In the games that I played it though it wasn't that bad, drawing between 1-3 cards per game played. It helped the decks low curve.

    <snip>Warlock Hero Power comments<snip>

Really well put. Warlock does have a good hero power but I don't think it gives them an overwhelming advantage on its own, especially as the health loss is much riskier against some classes (notably, Mage and Hunter).

Have you considered running 2 Shivs. It is an extra spell to work with Malygos and it isn't bad on its own (like Sinister Strike).

I'm not sure if I like the Alexstrasza. How are you finding her in this deck?

posted a message on Hellscream or Malganis?

I agree with earlier posters that Warlock will probably always be near the top of the food chain, but I don't think it has much to do with Mal'ganis. Grom on the other hand is fantastic for warrior, and good in both control and patron warrior. Also, if you are interested in crafting Alex eventually then having Grom around already will be great.

Warlock is good, and some of its decks are improved by having Mal'ganis in it.

Warrior is good, and both of its best decks are very much improved by having Grom in it (he is essential in ctrl warrior as well).

The final choice should of course depend on what you think you will have the most fun playing. Maybe you could try a midrangey zoo deck and a patron warrior without the class legends in it and decide which you like best.
