I am sure if you were a card, you would put a lot of Secrets in play.

    ;)

Aaanyway I think I bought those 20ish E packs three times in Vanilla days, at least one in GvG times, bought at least two expansions with money too so that is about 2x 20E again. I think that's it, I did not buy anything in TGT and I think I got League of Explorers for gold. So that would be around 120E total.

However the introduction of Standard/Wild divide infuriated me and I swore I won't give them a dime until they either undo that or massively improve the game in other ways to make up for it. As you can guess I am a major proponent of voting with your wallet, only support them if they deserve it.

Hi all, I just reinstalled HS after a year and a half. I was bored and I thought that maybe I'd enjoy it more now. How's the situation at the moment? Is it fun? I saw many format changes that I have to read about, but just for info is it worth it to play in the classic mode or is it broken? Thanks!

As someone who was you a month ago I'd say the game is okayish. Cards are definitely more powerful now than in the past and there is a lot of issue still with infinite value, discover into discover and so on. But overall I enjoy the game. I heard Wild is largely a nigh unbeatable Secret Mage followed by Raza priest, seems that mode is in bit of trouble atm. Finally Classic is pretty solidly meta decks, but that is to be expected of an old meta and many players having most of the cards. If you have most of the cards it could be the place to dip your toes back into the game. You should also have a Blizz made deck as a gift, hope you chose a good one ;)

If you do choose to stay some advice I'd give is, stick to Classic at first and earn XP from quests until you hit lvl 35ish, ideally you want to get those rares being given out before you open their duplicates in Barrens packs. So level the reward track but don't open the Barrens packs until you have those rares. Be sure to finish your dailies and weeklies, they are the primary source of XP. You might have some free Arena Tickets, use them.  Check out BGs they are fun. To rapidly catch up you might want to AFK for XP when not playing, pick some game mode you don't care about, Book of Heroes thing (and now Mercenaries) you will find under solo content gives one Class Pack, depending on how eager you are to progress you might find this worthwhile. The fights are a bit fixed and frustrating, and there is like 8 of them for one pack so might not be worth it for you. Think the Demon Hunter missions there also give a DH pack now, look into that.

And ofc finish high in at least one ladder to get the monthly rewards, good luck ;)

Imagine this is supposed to be an intuitive phone game, yet Blizzard in the pursuit of monetization has made it a cluster fuck.

I understand the system, but that's because I've been playing for a while, and read up on it. Imagine someone playing now, from scratch.

A part of the problem comes from the very old greedy decision to make non-DEable legendary cards, and not making it graphically obvious. The Basic set having no rarity dot was actually quite easy to get used to.

With the introduction of the non DEable Core set, the mess is now complete.

I can only agree with this.

Yes, they can even do it easily. Take out the orange gem, signifying the card is Basic and cannot be disenchanted but keep the decorative dragon border, that will make it clear enough the card cannot be put into a deck twice, if the single uncraftable copy didn't ;)

It is also silly that cards we got for free like C'thun are still non-disenchantable after all these years. I can understand wanting them to be champions of flavour and not wanting to flood the dust economy but maybe after card rotates to Wild or after a suitably long period of time they should be made disenchantable. It is a nice gift to reward the loyalty of long term players without hurting anyone. It is just 400 dust after all, hardly groundshaking.

posted a message on Whaaaat ?? 85 packs and only 3 legendarys ???

Opened around 50 packs, went pretty bad unfortunately. I kept getting epics and rares for classes I don't intend to play, I got almost all hunter, shaman and priest epics. Guess which classes I did not mean to play ;)

Eventually I got almost all the rares, but I still lack like 6-9, again for classes I actually need them :P

I got three legends, the Taunt Druid Leg which I am unsure on. Saurfang which seems bad atm but I have hope Frenzy warrior will rise by the end of the year and the DH leg.

All in all a fairly underwhelming opening, but reading some of your stories makes me feel it could have been even worse ;)

posted a message on New Mode Idea: Preconstructed

I have been thinking about this some more, rather than getting one of the few prebuilt decks for your class randomly when you queue you could instead see how the deck looks beforehand but unable to change it, kind of how it is in Book of Heroes. That way you can better prepare for your match by knowing exactly what deck you got and what is in it. But you still have 2-5 decks per class and they rotate either regularly or randomly, so you can't always aim for one particular deck just because it is slightly overtuned. You still randomly get one of the 2-5 decks you just know going into the game which one you got. It avoids confusion and serves the "deterministic" nature of this mode.

Also we did not get the "play with new expansion decks" Brawl : / Seems it was only a special Brawl for the pre-order opening event in (virtual) fireside gatherings. Major suckage.

posted a message on Classic is Coming!

I played a lot more games since then. I think both times I started with two stars, not sure if that copying my Wild MMR or everyone started like that? The competition is pretty fierce and meta on all levels, even running a silly Molten Giants Charge warrior at 10S I was running into meta stuff, though maybe they were farmers? Unlikely, probably just everyone knows what is best and has the cards for it.

I kind of expected that so no complaints here. I am probably going to stuck around in Silver playing fun decks for a season or two before grinding on.

    Quote from RMcD >>

Which quests give cards or card packs?

Should you save achievements like these ones that give XP for when the XP reward track gets reset? As the levels are smaller at the start right?

Pretty sure those are only for hitting a higher rank in Ranked, and then only once and only every second achievement is a pack, the rest give cards.

Though at least you will get packs from recent expansions, I did it last month, got Classic cards :P

posted a message on A question

Hmm did you maybe accidentally start playing on different zones, for example EU and NA? That can lead to you seeming offline.

Another thing that might have happened, I vaguely recall I once collapsed my friend list or something and so could not see friend requests and whatnot. See if you can click any arrows on your friend list to expand it.

Finally consider adding each other as Real Life friends, ID, however that thing is called. That might open the lines of communication.

All I can think of so far.

Honestly I am the reverse, I wish they'd unnerf the turn timer. Unless I am mistaken it was shortened twice, or so it feels to me now coming back from a long break. I am roping too often and I feel I have no time to think. The first shortening which happened way back when I was still playing was probably ok but current turn lengths are just too damn short.

posted a message on monthly rewards chest - no packs?
    Quote from JareJaeCa >>

so i run into another issue, i opened monthly rewards chests,

i was supposed to get 4 packs but there is nothing in my open packs tab.

    anybody with same problem?

this patch is so far so good :D

Did you have packs in your open packs tab before opening the chest? What happened to me was I did not get to open my chest, it showed me the Year of the Gryphon animation instead. But my packs, rares and epic were given to me. I saw the four packs in the tray and the rares in my collection. Later when I logged in a second time it did do the whole chest opening thing, showing me things I already received. I.E. the four packs and the exact cards I got. This is probably what happened to you.

posted a message on Has Blizzard lost control of your card collection?

Well since it seems this debate has some life I will throw my hat into the ring and share Core pros and cons as I see them:

-Pros: new players can jump into the game quicker, provided Core is a powerful and impactful set which mostly seems to be the case. Indeed it being more powerful than Classic is a boon to all players, new and old, but there is a con related to that see bellow. Some players may enjoy the bling of having those golden cards given out fairly liberally. It is a loan but it is a zero interest loan so that is still mostly good. Core cards being unusable in Classic Mode is arguably compensation to old players so their investment in Classic still matters, I disagree with this idea but the thought exists so.

-Cons: even if we were given Core to make up for it Blizz still broke a pretty big promise by retiring a set they said they never will. In fact thanks to power creep, nerfs and moving cards to HoF/Wild the best part of the Classic set was already severely dented. I will not say Blizz did this on purpose to make the switch to Core more palatable in the way some players parrot "hey Classic had become shit, Core is much better!" But their tendency to power creep new sets and nerf the old ones is no accident and is definitely part of a greater strategy to incentivize us to buy new expansions and hence earn them money, it is a long trend. So yeah old players were a bit betrayed and they were not offered any dust in compensation, I am not saying it is some huge tragedy but it is not fair either. Core is clunky and confusing, to old player and especially then new players who are meant to benefit most. Core changing in a year will obsolete decks more than they already are during Year transitions which is a hassle and adds to the confusion.

Anyway that is my full opinion on the issue.

posted a message on Dusting Cards

As I understand you can dust your own Golden Jaraxxus but if you don't have a normal Jaraxxus (that you own, not the Core loan) you won't be able to use him in Classic Mode if you want to, say, play Handlock. To repeat for clarity, it seems Core versions of cards can't be used in Classic, only Standard and Wild.

Also when this year is out and Core set is changed, if you disenchanted your own versions of Jaraxxus or any card that is currently part of Core but leaves it at the end of the year you will lose the ability to use that card in Wild or Tavern Brawls. You would have to recraft Jaraxxus then to play him, or wait until he is in Core again in some future year but ofc you could not play him until then.

Anyway hope this answers your question. If you want my advice only disenchant Classic cards that are also part of Core if 1) you only intend to play Standard and don't much care for Wild, Classic, Tavern Brawl or Duels 2) You are absolutely sure you won't need those cards in the future, even if you play those other modes only a little Jaraxxus, since he is the card in question here, is such a powerful and versatile card I would keep him even if I was dusting the majority of my Classic collection. In total my suggestion is to only dust the most useless of your Classic cards and keep the rest. Classic mode alone is a safe and permanent investment that draws on those very cards.

posted a message on New Shaman Totem should be Grace of Air

Not sure if devs pay attention to this place but I will give this post a boost. The new totem really should be Grace of Air or some other "boost physical damage" air totem. I'd suggest Windfury Totem actually but in HS that would give the wrong impression ;)

Anyway hope this tiny change is implemented as it is pleasing to have the four shaman elements represented in the basic totems. Though that one poster is right in saying how Healing Totem could be made more visually water.
