How can Nalguidan and Frenetic have 6 points??? Maximun of was played last week, and neither of them won…

they got some points from winning Season 1, I assume.

You are correct. I believe the winners of each region started with 5 points.

    Murloc Madness!

HearthPwn Presents: Murloc Madness - A Legendary Card Tournament!

Ragnaros or Sn1p-Sn4p? Dr. Boom or Patches the Pirate? The choice is yours in HearthPwn's Murloc Madness!

    What is Murloc Madness?

A tournament where a field of 128 Legendary cards from Heartstone go head-to-head in 1 vs 1 match up polls to decide which card the HearthPwn community thinks is best/most fun/most awesome. If you have ever heard of or taken part in a bracket challenge for music or games you will have a pretty good idea of how this is going to work!

This Week's Polls: Competition is over!

    Introduction

    How Will It Work?

A basic and simplified explanation is that we will have 128 Hearthstone cards that we divided up into 4 Bracket Sections named after Hearthstone Geographic Regions. Within each Region we will have cards go head-to-head. The winner moves on to the next round and the loser will go home (virtually then, they are cards after all).

This means we bring the field down per round from 128 cards at the start, to 64 cards the next round, to 32 cards, and so on. Eventually this means we have 1 winner for each Region, for a total of 4 winners. We will then match those in a round against each other too, after which we have a Finale round with 2 cards, which will decide the winner of Murloc Madness!

Check the Rules section to see a more detailed explanation of how things will work.

What Cards Are In The Tournament?

The field of 128 cards is comprised of Legendary Hearthstone cards from ALL expansions. This includes minions, abilities/spells and weapons, but NOT Hero Cards.

Why no Hero Cards? Because the team felt their power level was too great compared to other cards and it would be a lopsided tournament with a lot of Hero Cards making the later Rounds.

If this seems unfair, we have good news. If things work out like we hope and people enjoy the process, Hero Cards will get their own Murloc Madness competition, running after this initial Murloc Madness tournament, most likely next expansion.

And to add to the Madness, if we do get to run both competitions we will end the Hero Cards tournament with a round between the winner of the Legendary Cards tournament and the winner of the Hero Cards Tournament, for 1 MEGA ULTRA ULTIMATE WINNER of Murloc Madness.

Who Decided on The Cards To Use?

The HearthPwn Moderation and Content team did. We made a list, checked it twice found out who was naughty and nice  then gave that list to further members who left LONG lists of critiques. We then augmented the list with their suggestions. Then had another round of contemplation (read: bickering) and made final tweaks.

That gave us a list of 124 cards and 4 open spots for cards from the United in Stormwind expansion which will be filled in just before the Rounds with them in it start, based on a mixture of gut feeling, stats & play-rates, and community sentiment.

For a more detailed look at our selection process see the "Selection" section.

How Do You Decide The Winners?

Every week on Monday we will post a forum post with a number of polls, featuring the cards for that week or that Round. Whoever gets the most votes wins. Simple as that. The polls run until Sunday evening.

In the ultra rare event of a tie in number of votes between 2 cards we will label each card with a number and let a Random Number Generator from https://www.random.org/ decide which card goes through.

Yes, in the event of a tie we are going to let RNG decide the winners, in the true spirit of Hearthstone.

    Yogg Decided Ties In Voting.

Well, dang. We went into this assuming that if enough votes went out in a given round that it would be virtually impossible to have votes come out to a tie. We were proven wrong in only the 4th voting session. Twice. Yep, that's right, we had not one but TWO votes end up in a tie, so our procedures are now going to be put into practice.

The procedure is explained a little above, but for fullness we will repeat it here. First, we use the webpage Random.org, which is a true randomness generator, with the best chance at a fair result. We then went through the results from the top of the page to the bottom and picked for the first tie first and for the second tie on the page second. To get the results we labeled the first entry in the poll as "1" and the second entry in the poll as "2" and then drew from a selection of 2. That gave the following results:

(1)The Demon Seed vs (2) Varian, King of Stormwind: Winner: (2) Varian, King of Stormwind

(1)Soulciologist Malicia vs (2) Kun the Forgotten King: Winner: (2) Kun the Forgotten King

So there's your winners. They will move on in the voting and be featured in the next set of votes, whenever their slot is up.

    How Should I Vote?

If you mean this in the literal sense, then, you will vote in forum polls that go live every Monday morning EST.

In the more spiritual sense, the voting is basically up to you and your ideas and feelings about a card. Maybe there is a card that is not as successful or as widely played as the other card it's up against, but you LOVE that card, for whatever reason it happens to be. Then go vote for the card you love!

And maybe you are of the opinion that these polls should purely be decided on how strong a card is. Or maybe how strong a card was when it was released and relevant. Maybe you feel a card was amazing before it got nerfed and you want to vote for THAT version and not the version as it ended up.

That's all fine. It's your vote. Do with it what you want. And if there's a card you really hate, then it's perfectly fine to vote against it too. All is fair in love and bracket challenges.

    Why the Name Murloc Madness?

Because the thing needs a name and we love Murlocs and we think this is going to be crazy in how the tournament will unfold! And alliteration is always nice.

We considered Card Craze, Legendary Larks, Murloc Mania, HearthPwn Hysteria and The Tournament of Favorite Legendary Cards Chosen By Polls, but none of them quite worked out as well as this one we felt.

    WINNER

After many weeks of battles we have the winner of Murloc Madness!  After defeating Reno Jackson in the Finals Ragnaros the Firelord is crowned the champion of our legendary card competition and Hearthstone's favorite legendary card of all time!

This is the end of Murloc Madness for now, but hopefully next expansion we will run a similar competition for the favorite Hero Card of Hearthstone and at the end of that a showdown between whichever Hero card wins that and the winner of the Favorite Card competition: Ragnaros the Firelord!

    Rules

    • The field is 128 cards, including 4 cards from United in Stormwind, divided into 4 Hearthstone Regions.
    • To get to the initial field of 128 there will be an Elimination Round where cards from a singular lore figure, but multiple iterations (for instance Alexstrasza, Reno Jackson, and C'thun etc.) get brought back to only having 1 representative card in the field through a forum poll. (So only 1 Alexstrasza card, 1 Reno Jackson card, 1 C'thun card etc.) This is the only round where there are more than 2 cards going against each other at the same time.
    • Rounds beyond the Elimination Round are Rounds where polls are made for 2 cards that get matched up head-to-head. The winner moves on to the next Round, the loser is out of the tournament without recourse.
    • Once the field is brought down from 128 cards to 64 cards the further rounds will be visualized in a bracket.
    • The initial bracket will be set up according to the rankings the cards had in our selection process. The reason this is not visualized and used in a bracket before this round is because the sheer number of entries making it impossible to make a bracket that would be of reasonable size and reasonable legibility.
    • The bracket will dictate who matches up with who in every round after that, set in stone before the round of 64 even starts.
    • Polls will be posted around 5am PST/ 8am EST/ 14:00 CEST/ 13:00 BST on every Monday.
    • Polls will close around 5pm PST/ 8pm EST/ 02:00am CEST/ 01:00pm BEST on every Sunday (or technically Monday in the EU time zones).
    • The card with the most votes wins the match up. Not by percentage, but actual vote tally.
    • In the event of a tie: Both cards will be labeled. No. 1 for the top card in the poll, no. 2 for the bottom card in the poll. There will then be a random winner generated between those 2 numbers at https://www.random.org/ and the winning result will be posted in a separate section in this Hub Post, with a screenshot of the result.

    Selection

How the selection of cards for the tournament worked:

We started with an initial list, based on a combination of gut feeling, stats and play-rates, and community sentiment about the cards that we had seen before we started this project. We went over that list adding and subtracting names for some 2 weeks until we had a list we were happy with.

We then put this list in a rough order, based on Tiers. 128 cards divided into 8 Tiers of 16 cards. With the acknowledgement that the cards within each Tier should be roughly equal. So the top cards ended up in Tier 1, the slightly less Top cards ended up in Tier 2, all the way down to Tier 8 which was the cards we felt were replacement level cards. The idea being that in the Bracket Tier 1 cards would be matched up against cards from Tier 8 and that cards from Tier 2 would be matched up with cards from Tier 7. So on for 3 versus 6 and 4 versus 5.

We then gave that Tiered list to a further group of people who had not participated yet and through a process got recommendations from them of cards they most wanted to add and cards they most wanted to remove. The results of that touched basically every Tier, with everyone having different opinions. There were similarities between these recommendations however, and it is with those similarities that we then augmented the initial list.

During this process we realized that having 2 or even 3 Alexstrasza's or Deathwing's in the bracket would mean we would give people who liked Alexstrasza a lot of options to vote for, but someone who liked a different card none. It seemed both unfair and unfun. So we came up with the idea to have the Alexstrasza's all compete against each other in a poll to decide the community's favorite Alexstrasza and then use that card in the Tournament and leave out all the others in favor of other cards.

All this lead us to have nearly 10 open spots in the initial list that we could fill. We further added to those open spots by removing cards that had gotten bad recommendations. We then filled the open spots with recommendations and also made a pass over the Tier Rankings, moving cards between Tiers based on recommendations and further discussion. A LOT of further discussion.

Once we had this list, ranked into Tiers, we went through a selection process for all 4 Regions, where we started by selecting cards from Tier 1 until they were all used, then moving to Tier 2 and so on. Then we matched up the first selection for each Region with the last selection for each Region. The 2nd selection for each Region with the 2nd to last selection, and so on. That gave us the line ups you will see in use.

This process means there's some personal biases in how the Regions were chosen, but in the end every Region ended up with the same number of Tier 1 cards and Tier 2 cards etc. It should be balanced enough for the purposes of this Tournament, since ultimately if a card is popular enough it will win against any competition. So if a card was meant to go far, it will and if it ends up faltering, than that is probably more due to a lack of popularity for the card then any biases in the selection process.

If you disagree with this selection process, please blame xskarma, as it was probably his idea.

    TL;DR:

    • 1 vs 1 Tournament of Legendary Cards - No Hero Cards
    • Polls to decide winners
    • Polls run Monday morning to Sunday evening Eastern US time. New polls every Monday!

That's not entirely certain.  It was originally the 27th, but then they changed it to today at 1PM est.  Then they removed it completely from their reveal schedule with no announcement.

So, as of right now -- we don't know when or IF there will be a final reveal.
