The big differences being that Cobalt Guardian had a higher cost (meaning it was easier to trade up into it) and most importantly it did not start with divine shield, meaning that protecting it was at least a 6 mana/two card play (assuming Clockwork Gnome).
This card can be played on curve and get you at worst a bit of tempo (requiring at least a 4 mana play to remove, assuming ping plus 3/2 two-drop) and if it survives you can play cards like Friendly Bartender or Benevolent Djinn to give it an effective "Regain divine shield at the end of each turn" effect (or with Truesilver Champion).
It won't be a win condition (though it might theoretically combo well with Bolvar, Fireblood), but it will be able to grant a decent tempo advantage.
I may be very wrong, but given that the money in these games is more from streaming than from the actual tournaments (correct me if I'm wrong, but they aren't numerous or remunerative enough to make a living out of), I'd guess that if pros didn't still enjoy the game thay could transfer their skills to another popular card game and stream that with relative ease.
Just my two coins though, I could be completely wrong ;-)
I'm guessing the changes will be implemented concurrently with the release of the new expansion, so Sentinel should at least rotate out (unless they continue Wild Arena).
Really late response here: I've cut Umbra entirely: so far I've found that for the play to be worth it it requires you to either have a lot of mana (for consecutive Umbra+deathrattle plays) or a strong board to defend the card, both cases in which the deck already thrives. The card also tends to make you conserve your deathrattles in hope of future greedy plays.
Note that you won't get refunded for the cards which would normally rotate to Wild (i.e. those from WotOG, MSoG and ONiK), only for the cards from the Classic set which get moved to the Hall of Fame (which AFAIK have yet to be announced).
Just a 1 mana 3/3. I've had it in my opener as often as not.
Luckily I managed to complete my run even without the sword: I managed to nab both the Stealth and +1/+1 passives with my Wee Beasts Hunter deck. The Darkness barely survived turn 8.
Even in the murky depths of the Kobold Mines, Everybody knows that the Face is the place!
If you pick one of the pieces (blade or hilt) of Quel'Delar as your first active treasure, is there any guarantee that you will get the second piece as one of the three choices for your second active treasure (i.e. the one after the seventh boss), or do you have to be lucky?

I doubt Kingsbane Rogue will use a 7-drop to fish for Kingsbane

Huh. I was half expecting it to be a 12/12 with charge (for 4 mana obviously).
I'm somewhat dissappointed at the missed April Fool's opportunity.

Can't find the memo either.
Can someone kindly enlighten me (or give me a link)? ;-)

I doubt I'll ever partecipate in any tournaments, but it's always good to get some insights from the better players out there.

I love being able to use the OP boss cards for once!

I've subbed in N'Zoth, the Corruptor in Spiritsinger Umbra's place and I've found it a pretty solid alternative, as it allows for a second board reload after Bloodreaver Gul'dan and/or resurrects your Possessed Lackeys if the first one(s) got silenced.
Just make sure you preferably play your Death Knight first, or you dramatically increase the number of Voidwalkers in the "dead demons" pool.

I answered myself:
alas no you don't.
You get a normal pick of three active treasures so you need to be especially lucky :-(

Update: teched in a Golakka Crawler in place of a Bloodsail Corsair; seems to be working decently so far

Currently 10-1. After weeks of struggling against aggro Paladin it gives a lot of schadenfreude to be able to turn the tables.
