I think everyone's mentioned the complexity of this design so I won't go any further with that. I do think the flavour fits though, since you're not going for warcraft dragons.

    Quote from Laurendor >>

So all this fatigue stuff... it is kinda interesting but at the same time a little risky to do, since fatigue is not something that comes up in every game so its cost is often just negligible, and it is not something that your opponent can interact with very much.

Plague Deviser is pretty difficult to use. Reno is so powerful since he can save you, this guy needs a lot of setup to match that effect. Unless you print off a lot of fatigue cards, he will not be useful. And once you start printing a lot of fatigue cards... you just become self-damage warlock. Already, a lot of your cards are basically just self-harm warlock but more specific, needing certain 2-card combos instead of each card building up on each other to form a whole archetype.

Redpine Necrolyte is too strong, other have said this.

Chalice of Health is very easy to abuse, not sure if this is wise. This might restrict your design space going forward.

Ooze Channeler, I do not remember how many cheap Nature spells you have, but this is really weak. I'd balance it around clockwork goblin.

Corrosive Breath's name is already taken. And I will tell your right now, 2-3 damage lightning storm felt awful. This is the same thing.

    Quote from teknician >>

Actually, the 3 keyword challenge is minion only :^) I'd thought it'd be easier to use keywords on minions than spells.

Possessed Totem is very hard to pull off, we have seen that with the caravan cycles, not a single one are playable. Perhaps giving the Totem some attack would help, so it would be like trading into Far Watch Post, at least.

A lot of your effects are quite unique and never seen before... *normally* that rarity bumps them to epic, as a lot of mechanics or interactions are often introduced there. Such as Dormant minions having a passive effect, something a legendary recently introduced. I'm not saying you need to move all of your new mechanics into the epic rarity, just letting you know you have quite a few new effects.

Soulbind Totem is terrible. It's card text means it cannot be a 2-drop, at the same time, so I prefer the three-mana version. If you give it support with deathrattles, I think this could see play... but you don't have very many so it remains bad.

I would use the Hydra to have some sort of DR effect to give support to soulbind totem, but not the dormant version,. When you mean (3 left) on the card, is that like, a copy in your hand, or a 3-chain deathrattle?

Dreamcatcher is fine, but isn't it basically just deal 1 damage to all enemy minions for each dormant minion you have? Your text is just a more complex version of that, it seems.

Spirit Link should cost 0 for first version (binding heal), 2nd version is just too vastly inferior to binding heal, and 3rd option is just weird.

Skyfury Exile is brutal against aggro decks if played on curve. Unlike Walking Fountain, it keeps on healing itself. You just need to survive until turn 7, not super unreasonable, and then you start healing for 8 each turn. Even if the aggro deck clears it, it will likely have taken at least one minion trade and you'll have swung the board back no problem.

Ta'kora is hard to balance due to The Darkness, but the other effect makes it a glorified (and often worse unless casted on Taunt) Frozen Shadoweaver.

    Quote from MvonTzeskagrad >>

Decrepit Necromancer might be a better Unearthed Raptor, but I think it is fine, since the destroy effect might work against you sometimes... but usually not.

Hard to balance fate denied... it is a very strong win more card... I would say compare it to soul of the forest, since that card is typically played in a token deck and brings back 2/2 from a field of 1/1, 2/2, 2/3, and so forth. But your class seems to have no token synergy so *shrug*

Splitting soul, flanking strike, teknician said this.

Ascended Judicator is just a (way) better Onyx Bishop. So you might wanna completely rework this due to it being a Priest card.

Anima Overflow: NO. 2 copies of godfrey. Also, mechanically, plays just like priest which has the best AOE cards in the game.

Last week I posted cards and basically got no feedback :^)
But I'll be counting on you guys again this week, got one card:

To me at least the class seemed limited by the keyword, like i explained before, and the Blightbursts were just smaller Warrior Bombs, but you made a lot of catds that could shuffle a ton of them. I liked the slime theme though, perhaps you should have drawn more from the mobs and spells in shadowlands.

That's Laurendor's class, with the Blightbursts. LivingOrganism did Cartelist.

The Custom Class Competition is back for its eighth iteration! Veterans and newcomers are welcome as we kick off the first Hearthpwn Class Competition post-Core Set!

This is the Submission Thread! Discussion here is not allowed as this is where contestants will submit their custom class cards.

Unfortunately, JollyCroquet, LivingOrganism, and wintrmute scored the lowest during Week Two, and they are eliminated.

There should have been 4 eliminations, but there was a large tie for 4-last place so only 3 eliminations took place.

This is where you submit your cards!
    The Discussion Thread is here.

    Posting Tutorial

This is a posting tutorial for the website imgur.com. If you use another website, the process will be similar.

    1. It is recommended you use hearthcards.net to create your cards. Save the generated card to your device.
    2. Upload the image to imgur.com. You do not need an account.
    3. After your image is uploaded, many links will be generated. Find the "Direct link". It will have a .jpg or .png at the end of the link. Copy the link.
    4. On your hearthpwn post, find the "Insert/edit image" button:
    5. Paste the direct link. This is recommended but not mandatory: You may choose to make the image smaller by changing the image dimensions.

    Overview

    1. All contestants will create one custom class, following the layout of Demon Hunter.
    2. The contest will run for 5 weeks.
      1. Week One: 10 Basic cards.
        • This contest, as Demon Hunter introduced Rush and Lifesteal into the Basic Set keyword pool, the list of keywords you are allowed to use is as follows:
        • Battlecry, Taunt, Charge, Rush, Poisonous, Divine Shield, Windfury, Spell Damage, Freeze, Deathrattle, Silence, Stealth
        • The following keywords are banned. Discover: It is strange for a new player starting out with a Basic set to be discovering from cards they have no idea of. Secret: Complex mechanic, requires at least 3 out of 10 of your slots. Class keywords: Blizzard is pretty clear about saving these for Initiate. Immune and Counter: Far too niche to have a place in Basic.
      2. Week Two: 10 "Initiate" cards.
        • "Initiate" means the supplemental 20 cards Blizzard printed for Demon Hunter. Yours do not have to be named Initiate.
      3. Week Three: The other 10 "Initiate" cards.
      4. Week Four: Your pre-Core expansion cards.
      5. Week Five: Core Set consolidation + 15 post-Core expansion cards.

Be sure to read over Rules & Information section as there is a lot to go over this contest due to the complex shifts caused by the introduction of the Core Set.

    Submission Format

You must adhere to the following submission rules or risk disqualification:

    1. Unless otherwise stated, you are allowed three cards to showcase. All other cards must be hidden in a spoiler.
    2. You are also allowed to show off a tooltip featuring your custom keyword. To make a tooltip, head over here.
    3. You may include flavour texts. For the showcase cards, their texts do not need to be spoilered.
    4. All tokens must be in a spoiler.
    5. You may include a single banner at the top of your submission post. It may not be overly fancy. This is entirely subjective and the moderators have the right to remove a banner they feel is too fancy and, therefore, gives an inherent advantage over other posts.
      1. Golden cards are not allowed, nor are huge images that feature your cards with a background.
      2. If you choose to include other images other than a banner, they must be hidden behind a spoiler.
    • Flavour text is allowed behind a spoiler.
    • Golden cards are not allowed.

    Challenges

    Week Three has two challenges:

    1. If your legendary minion costed more than 5 last week, this week's legendary minion must cost less than 5, and vice versa. If your legendary minion costed exactly 5, you are exempt from this challenge.
    2. One of your minions must have three keywords. (example: Illidari Felblade)

    Rules & Information

    • How is the Initiate set split in half?
      • There are 8 commons, 6 rares, 4 epics, and 2 legendaries. That makes splitting the Initiate set in half rather easy.
      • For Weeks Two and Three, contestants will create 4 commons, 3 rares, 2 epics, and 1 legendary.
    • What does pre-Core expansion mean?
      • You may select any expansion before the Core set was introduced! Anything from GvG all the way up to Darkmoon Faire is up for grabs.
    • What does post-Core expansion mean?
      • Either Forged in the Barrens or United in Stormwind.
    • What do I do about class cycles?
      • You must have at least one all-class cycle from your chosen expansions. All-class, in this context, means both a cycle shared between all 9 classes, or a cycle that the League of EVIL classes or Explorers classes share.
      • While, at first, it seems to make sense that your custom class should adhere to all all-class cycles in a given expansion, Demon Hunter, for example, did not have a Prime legendary, therefore you only need to use one such cycle.
    • What about card cycles not shared between all nine classes, like Studies spell cards, or Aspirant cards?
      • You may pick and choose from those, these are not mandatory.
    • What about Hero Cards?
      • So after much debate and discussion, Hero Cards are allowed with an asterisk. More information will be given, but for now, take note that they are only allowed in Week Three.
    • Can I rename the "Initiate" set to whatever I want?
      • Yes.
    • What watermarks do I use?
      • For the "Initiate" set, you can use whatever watermark you think makes the most sense. There is a list of watermarks here.
    • Do I have to follow the rarity distribution of the Demon Hunter Initiate set?
      • Yes.
      • You may not introduce a Legendary spell, weapon, or Hero in the Initiate set as there are none in the current Demon Hunter example we've been given.
    • Do I need to adhere to Warcraft lore?
      • During this contest, I will be experimenting with asking contestants to integrate a little bit more Warcraft lore into their submissions. However, for the most part, you will be free to ignore Warcraft lore.
    • Do I need class-exclusive keyword?
      • No.
    • Can I do a Monk or Death Knight class?
      • No.
    • Can I create my own spell school or minion tribe?
      • We'll try this out this competition: Yes, you can.

    Competition Process

    Week 1: July 7th - July 14th
    Week 2: July 17th - July 24nd
    Week 3: July 25rd - August 1st
    Week 4: August 2nd - August 9th
    Week 5: August 10th - August 17th

All threads close at 3 AM, EST. There may be delays due to United in Stormwind being released. I also do have some overnight shifts at my workplace, so I will give 24 hours notice if there needs to be a delay.

    Larva Token

Zag'arak is a Vizier, a high ranking official of the Black Empire. She commands both endless skittering swarms of Larvae, Drones, and other small insects as well as towering Aqir, Qiraji, and Nerubian. Being insectoid herself means strong chitinous Armor and her ties with the Old Gods, coupled with her race's natural abilities, grants her powerful healing.

The Vizier Imperial Set continues to expand on unconventional Armor gain and health manipulation as well as reinforces Larvae synergy by giving new ways to generate and interact with them. It also introduces a powerful new playstyle, Taunt synergy.

So you are going to take your old class and repurpose the cards for this competition after all.

Rival Sibling is a bit confusing since you're also splitting the heritages... maybe "For each Heritage this would gain, summon a Rival Sibling with one of them instead."

Protective Mother is actually pretty brutal against token decks, it easily shuts down two or more token generator cards. I would make it like Swamp King Dred.

It is hard to evaluate Egg Clutch. You seem to have multiple ways of activating it, though the synergy cards you included themselves are slightly clunky activators. Nevertheless, just Rush or using this with Broomstick turns this into a crazy card. And if you are ahead, well, this just makes trading so efficient. So yeah, I'm not too sure with this card.

Family Fortune isn't quite as broken as you think, so it'll be fine.

And as other have said, perhaps there might be a little too much reliance on Heritage cards through your initiate set, we'll see with the other cards.

    Quote from LivingOrganism >>

I think your legendary card could just stand to be a 4 mana 4/5, or a 3 mana 3/4. She doesn't do anything on her own.

As for the actual effect, you would need to print a lot of pirates. Currently, most pirates are small so paying 1 extra mana for the rush would be pretty expensive. You would need stuff like Ticket Scalper, midrange-y pirates that can take advantage of rush.

    Quote from WKitsune >>

As other have said, endure should be one turn, so I won't touch on that further.

Patrol Construct... pretty tough to balance but definitely shouldn't be at 1 health. It is currently a 3 mana 2/3 "Taunt" *maybe* draw a card as you said you wanted to use your hero power on it as much as possible.

Shield Wall protocol, interesting art, didn't know there were Necrons in Warcraft. "Give 4 Armor to three random friendly minions."

Flame Warden: You need to specify when this happens. I suggest end of your turn, so after it survives your opp's turn, then you can add armor back on it. It's pretty weak though... Should probably be 2/4 or 3/4 since it will likely never deal more than 4 damage with its endure effect.

Eternal Protectors, so... I think you can just say "Resummon this with 1 Health, then gain +2/+2."

As with a lot of your cards, Ammunae is pretty weak. You don't have a lot of cheap armor synergy already, and plonking down a 6 mana 4/6 that does nothing on its own is terrible. Payoff isn't even that good, 2/1 rush sure, ok, Shaman had a bunch of cards that could spew them out for days, no card or mana investment required.

    Quote from Ardin427 >>

I think the regular Formation is best.

    Quote from Klipce >>

A lot of good stuff here, but also some concerns.

I really don't like midnight rager. It is such a sacky card and feels awful to lose against.

I feel like Time Keeper Kairoz is way too good of a win condition to be in Initiate. All of these wide-sweeping resurrect/replay cards were always phased out eventually to prevent them from overtaking the class.

Growing Menace could at least stand to be a Chillwind Yeti.

Time Trap... Ok so from what we know with Potion of Polymorph, if an enemy minion transforms during your turn, then they can attack on the follow turn of the opponent's. That means this is a 7 mana Frost Nova... to both players. I guess it breaks Taunts but yeah, not worth 7 mana.

Interesting stuff so far, some shades of Dragoncraft from shadowverse. I see you have a bit of mana cheat, a bit of discard just like Dragoncraft. We'll see where this heads, great work so far.

I have a few cards I made before my Basic Set that outline the general direction the class is going. Since they're fairly old, I have changed some of them in my head but haven't gotten around to doing so on the card itself, I'll make notes of that.

Proliferation would go to Dormant for 2 turns, possibly. Or stay at 1 turn, but summon 1 Larva. And yes I know I used Larva instead of Larvae.

Gaze Unto Insanity, maybe 1 mana.

Arachnoid Matriarch is the cornerstone of balance here. I think the balance here is fine, but will think some more.

    Qiraji Attendant, unchanged.

Bulwark, going down to 3 mana 3/2.

Anubisath Emisssary will probably swap a bit of stats for more healing.

Scarab Swarm had to think about this one, but 7 mana is probably right. You summon "2/9" worth of stats and heal 9 with just one card, and then you get the taunt effect.

So artwork is clearly an issue for me.  I figured I'd just Google image search and it'd all work out, but its pretty tricky to find the right art (if this was anything higher stakes I'd feel guilty about ripping all this art).  Where yall getting your art from?

I get a lot from google images actually. You can try Artstation too. I usually spend a few hours each phase scouring for art. Since you're a necromancer, there should be a lot of art out there. Just type in "warcraft necromancer art" or "fantasy necromancer art" and look in the images tab.

Ok I already clarified what the second challenge is all about, I'm not sure how else I can break it down... I also included an example in the challenge text now.

Also not sure why people are asking about class cycles now, we're not even on Week Four yet, so there is no need to be concerned with them. And I have already clarified what happens to cycles that are shared between all or some classes in the opening post as well.

    No to second question.

Concept is very good, but hearthstone UI does not do a very good job of this. You don't have a good indication of whether you are on an odd or even turn. Yes, there is a yellow highlight, but what if you have both tick and tock?

I will break down the second challenge since it seems to be confusing.

You will state your pre-core expansion for week 4. That is the expansion you choose for your class to enter the game.

You then use that expansion and look at past ones for mechanics introduced there and then use that mechanic on an epic card.

Your expansion cycle would be in phase 4 because initiate sets do not have expansion cycles.
