I understand where they're coming from about not wanting to incentivize people to farm low-level stuff, but I agree that this doesn't actually fix the problem.
To all those disappointed by Mercenaries, try Darkest Dungeon. Pay once, tons of fun. (Be warned that there's permadeath for the characters, but since you didn't pay an arm and a leg to get or level them, and you can easily get more, it's okay, at least in my opinion.)
Well, those people who aren't even playing 5 games wouldn't add up to a lot in the statistics by definition. But if you want the meta at higher ranks, see hsreplay.net or listen to the Vicious Syndicate podcast, which aren't too far off from this.
If you play the mirror, you can't get your frost spells off because (if they're smart) they don't play any minions. Of course, if you don't play any minions either, then they can't play their frost spells either. For this reason, you're best off killing any minions you play (from Primordial Studies for example) the turn you play them. Such a weird way to play the game.

I think you choose the minions, actually, which makes it WAY better. It doesn’t say “random”.

Soul Rend might do it, depending on the board you clear! But then you don't get to actually play those cards, of course.

I was playing around with a deck somewhat like this but couldn't quite get it to work, will definitely try this out!
