    THE BOTANIST

A Botanist is not a Druid, but a scholar fascinated by plant life. While the Druids are a protectors of the wild, a Botanist is focused on the research of their secrets. They study, catalogue, culture and experiment on different kind of plants, tapping into their life force in order to unlock their hidden power. A Botanist seek out the rarest flora and carefully harvest the helpful and potent herbs found throughout the world(s), which can be transformed in powerful reagents. Cultivation is the Hero Power of this class which will allow you to summon Seedling with the new keyword: Evergrowth .

N.B. The Hero Power has been balanced since Phase I to be more "basic". Instead of shuffling the minions into the deck and been summon once drawn, it now summon the minion straight away on the board.

The Botanist is a tempo class, he needs time to build up his strategy and he does that thanks to his Taunt arsenal and his knowledge as a magister, boosting his Spell Damage to get rid of any offence. Winning condition could be to set up a good amount of minions with overgrowth on the board, or collect enough Spell Damage to blast the opponent with the flower power!

    About Freywinn

Tempest Keep was merely a setback. Freywinn was in charge of the experiments the blood elves were conducting on the plants in the Botanica. After the destruction of Tempest Keep he managed to survive returning to the simple life of a scholar, growing his knowledge and discovering the secrets behind the Evergrowth.

    Keyword: Evergrowth

Pretty easy to understand: The more minions on the board with Evergrowth, the more +1+1. I decided to change a bit the keyword from the last phase to make it less similar and annoying as the Jade golem mechanic. In this way you won't have more than +7+7 (good luck getting there, it will only require 7 minions on the board with Evergrowth and usually they are pretty weak by themselves).

N.B. The Keyword has been nerfed since Phase I. Now it only counts the minions on the board with Evergrowth instead of all the minions summoned. I did that to make the possible gameplay more enjoyable and different than the Jade Golem mechanic.

    New Tribe: Herbs

I thought it might be a good idea for this kind of class to have a special tribe: Herbs . Originally i wanted to add to this new tribe some existing in-game cards but then I opted for a class specific family.

    Botanist Example Cards

    • Apprentice Herbalist: As a starter herbalist you won’t have the chance to harvest a lot of herbs but only the basic one. Special mention to the Bloodthistle if you live nearby Quel’Thalas. This card will summon a random basic Herb on the board giving the botanist a nice passive buff with their presence (check spoiler for tokens)

    • Garden Shovel: They said that no special tools are required to gather herbs but who won’t like a garden shovel? The plant will like this little add-on. Boost to Health for all friendly minions, make sure you have some Herbs on the board.

    • Delicate Touch: Once upon a time there was this little tauren that levelled up to the top only picking up herbs and flower. They said that he didn’t spill any blood...or maybe he did. Anyway if you are a pacifist make sure you are not taking Bloodthistle or your pat won’t be as delicate.

    • Find Herbs: Herbalist use their potent sense for the growth to locate herbs on their map. Send this little guy into your deck and start the search. It might takes a lot, or maybe just a couple of turns...who knows? It's not easy to get rid of this passion once you got it.

    • Bloodthistle Pigment: Lord Saltheril keep saying that this is for the Inscription trainer in Silvermoon. I still don’t understand why is offering it to his party guests tho. Can you imagine its effect on a guest?

    BASIC HERB

    Cards generated by Apprentice Herbalist

    • Peacebloom: Very. VERY common flower. It’s a delicate white flower with yellow at the center and long stems with several long leaves around its base. They reminds me of the chamomile flowers. Great for tea and infusion and somehow to relax your mind, unlocking your inner power.
    • Bloodthistle: You will find a lot of them in Quel’thalas. Bright green leaves with a soft, flexible spine at the tip and a bright red flower, the color of blood. Fun fact, it requires magical energy in order to grow, so yeah, it’s a magic plant! A bit addictive, excessive use is discouraged (specially if you are a Blood Elf)
    • Silverleaf: Mostly prevalent in northern Kalimdor, the Silveleaf is growing in shade, particularly in woodlands around the base of trees. It provides a catalyst property that increases its medicinal properties. So yeah, a general boost to the morale of the group!

    • Earthroot: Common across Kalimdor and the Eastern Kindomg, the Earthroot has sparse, tiny evergreen leaves, but more of value is the thick, woody root that typically protrudes above ground. The plant can be difficult to pull away…can you imagine a Botanist hiding behind one of them

    Remaining Cards

    • Lifegiving Seed: Not easy to find on Azeroth but those seeds can change someone to be like a plant, a basic Herb to be clear (Pacebloom, Silverleaf, Earthroot & Bloodthistle). I still don't understand why we didn't throw one of them to Deathwing back in Cataclysm. It's actually a removal spell.
    • Briarthorns Wall: Oh now thing are getting interesting. Have you ever saw a Botanist watching you behind a wall of thorns?
    • Peacebloom Honey: That's a spoiler for what's coming next. Have you ever wondered how the Botanist is growing all these kind of different herbs in his greenhouse? Pollination and a lot of Bees. And where are bees there is honey. A very special one here.
    • Peacefull Levelling: Can you imagine how boring would that be to level up to 120 only by gathering resources?  It's a long story, it can actually kill you all.
    • Lifeblood: Feeling nostalgic now? Here you go, quick heal and a card to boost your haste in game.

    Token Briarthorn's Wall

Briarthorn: A shrub that grows in thorn-covered vines with a thick bark. Appropriate protective equipment should be worn prior to harvesting, as the spines are extremely sharp. These roots spread too quickly and will overrun your garden.

    Omerque - The Angel

For the Hero Power why don't you make it reduce the Health by 1 to a random friendly and enemy minion? In the end you might get something very similar with killing 1and 1 but not as immediate.

I agreed with what as been said already, need another art for Hero and Hero Power. Honestly there are plenty of angel fantasy related images.

Prayer - It's balanced but i don't like it. It feel more like a secret to me.

Under My Wings - I do like this card, very interesting and new.

Holy Defenders - i think the token are too strong and with the name like that they feel a lot like legendaries. I would drop to +1+1 and Restore 3 Health.

Cleansing Sword - Because fo the debuff i think you can add 1 more attack.

Break Defense - To make it simple why don't you make it just remove the taunt or destroy a taunt minion?

Live Shields - Might be too strong with the Hero Power as it is.

White Queen - Thats work well.

    thepowrofcheese -Tinker

Overall i think you are ready to submit, i like the flavour of the class and how you left space for future synergies  . The only card that does;t convince me is the overclock. It looks more something for a chronomancer than a tinker...why don't you change the art to something related to ventilation, aeration area or something like that?

Seedling and Treant are not into this category because I didn't want to generate too many synergies and touch the druid class. Also i didn't put Mossy elemental, bog shaper and so on to keep it more specific and less dispersive.

    The Botanist

Tempest Keep was merely a set back.

    Freywinn, the High Botanist

Tempest Keep was merely a setback. Freywinn was in charge of the experiments the blood elves were conducting on the plants in the Botanica. After the destruction of Tempest Keep he managed to survive returning to the simple life of a scholar, growing his knowledge about the native plantlife of Draenor/Outland, discovering the secrets behind the Evergrowth and the power hidden among the plants. Someone supposed that he has been infested by a rare specimen.

    What's a Botanist?

A Botanist is not a Druid, Blood Elves will never be druids. A Botanist is a scholar fascinated by plant life: the resilience and adaptability of weeds, the ability of simple grass to harness the power of the sun, the way a tree may be divided into two, or two branches grafted into one. While the Druids are a protectors of the wild, a Botanist is focused on the research of nature secrets. They study, catalogue, culture and experiment on different kind of plants, tapping into their life force in order to unlock their hidden power:  the ancient and lost connections of the Evergrowth. Patient is their main assistance because it takes time for a seed to grow strong.

    Cultivation and Evergrowth

The Hero Power of the Botanist is going to test your patient and luck, but if you can wait enough it can show you some pretty good miracles. Every time he Hero Power is played the Botanist shuffle a Seed card into the deck that is gonna be cast when drawn, summoning a Seedling on the board. For the first time it will be a 1 Attacck 1 Health minion but thanks to the Evergrowth it will get bigger and stronger (If you won't get killed before, but you know, it's not easy to take care of a plant).

    KEYWORD EVERGROWTH

The EVERGROWTH works similar to the Jade Golem mechanic. Every time a minion with EVERGROWTH is played it get its stats buffed by +1+1 for for each other minions with EVERGROWTH already played in that game. Because it's a buff, it can be silenced.

As you can imagine, the more Seed the more Seedling, the more Seedling the bigger stats. At this stage the new keyword is also the major strength of the Botanist, as long as you can draw enough of them before your opponent will end your planting session. Because of that here are some hints of how a Botanist could help himself and his crop to bloom.

Mutated Mageroyal: It's always good to have an extra Evergrowth on the board, you just need to wait to draw 2 Seeds. The value of the card is that it give you an extra +1+1 to the next Seedling you will play. The stats are not great but it's cheap and if you have many Evergrowth already played it can be a problem.

Seeding: You need time to build your plantation so it is better to remove any threat since the beginning. Oh and you will get an extra seed once it die (whatever wasn't even yours). This card it's a removal for some low cost card and also a way to build up more seeds into your deck.

Greenkeeper: No luck finding your seeds little Botanist? Let me take advantage of this situation. It's a 6 mana 2/5 minion with a battlecry effect that deal 1 damage to all enemies, repeating it for every seed in your deck. Let's say you used your hero power in the passed 4 turn this little guy is a 4 damage AoE (Hero included)

Vengeful Vine: That's easy, best way to protect yourself? A Taunt minion. Actually a taunt minion that shuffle another seed inside your deck once it die.

Evergrowth's Call: You kill something and you draw 3 card. 3 possible Seed. I thought about this card because it will works very well killing minions with deathrattle that give you extra seed like the Seeding target or the Vengeful Vine, or just for trading something on the board to get 3 draws.

Ok I'm so sorry for the rush and for the amount of english error, i'm not an english speaker but i really wanted to join this competition. Unfortunately i find it only yesterday so i hadn't the chance to show this work to someone before posting it. Hopefully i can do some minor change in the future.

Please remove the post if it's to late to submit an entry.

Hope you will like it :)
