posted a message on This game isn't P2W.

I started in mid-December and when Witchwood released (~4 months of playing) managed to collect 10,1k dust.

However, I did have help with some unusual circumstances and did spend money.

1- Hall of Fame. A few days before the HOF, I got 3400 dust. Crafted 2x golden Molten Giant. I had 2x Ice Blocks and 2x Coldlights from packs. Got 5k dust from the HOF where normally I would have 3400 (profit of 1600 dust - disenchanted Giants, kept Ice Blocks and Oracles). Total: 5000 dust.

2- Rotation. Since Old Gods and MSOG were rotating very soon, I only opened 10 packs to get the guaranteed first legendary. Got 800 dust from both legendaries and a few extra from epics and rares. I think I got around 1,3k dust from disenchanting those sets. Total: 6300 dust.

3- Pre-order. Bought the Witchwood pre-order. Opened around 100 packs for WW. Got around 1,6k dust from duplicates. Total: 8000 dust.

4- Golden cards. Got me around 2,1k dust I guess to get tot that 10,1k dust. Total: 10,1k dust.

Crafted Lich King as first legendary simply because. Then I got lucky with some packs. For example, Even Shaman was the first deck I crafted because I had Al'akir from Welcome Bundle and Kalimos from first 10 Un'goro packs and opened Genn Greymane on Witchwood pre-order. I only needed ~1k dust for Corpsetakers and Primalfin Totems.

Before Even Paladin was all the rage, I also crafted because I only needed 2k dust for Tarim and 2x Call to Arms.

I still had more than 5k dust left and could craft Spiteful Druid (SUPER lucky on packs, had 2 UIs, Branching Paths and etc from packs - only needed Malfurion, Keleseth, Leeroy and 2x Spiteful).

However, I decided to wait since I already had two good decks (Even Paladin would prove to be broken). Since both Even Shaman and Even Paladin were pretty similar (both Midrange) and Spiteful Druid was also Midrange, I went for a total different archetype: Control Warlock.

I needed around 6,3k dust for this one because contrary to Paladin, Shaman and Druid, I was really unlucky with Warlock and had to craft every single card (still don't have second Doomsayer - first I opened from a pack). I disenchanted some really crappy epics like Glacial Mysteries and etc and made up that difference. No legendary disenchanted.

So in 4 months, I had Even Shaman, Even Paladin and Control Warlock. 0 dust left. Three top decks, two broken and got nerfed (Even Paladin pretty much destroyed).

And I didn't disenchant aggressively. I still have crappy epics like 2xToxic Arrow, Stampede. Light's Sorrow, Embrace Darkness, Cataclysm, etc. And even more crappy legendaries like Clutchmother Zavas, The Beast, Dragon Soul, Bolvar, Fireblood, etc.

1 month and a half later: I bought more packs with gold and money (today 40 KnC packs - netted me Lynessa Sunsorrow and Twig of the World Tree, along useful epics like Carnivorous Cube, Arcane Tyrant, Level Up and many commons and rares I was missing.

With golden cards obtained + duplicates + nerfed cards refund I have ~4k dust. If I disenchant a little more aggressive, say the Epics and Legendaries I mentioned above, I could possibly get to 7k dust.

If Even Paladin wasn't nerfed, I would have by now Even Shaman (without Hagatha), Even Paladin (without Val'anyr) and Control Warlock (I'm not even running Doomsayers anymore). I could craft those two cards now and still have spare dust.

As for other current top decks:

Even Warlock - Need 1x Doomsayer and 2x Mountain Giant and 2x Twilight Drake - 1400 dust.

Cube Warlock - Need Taldaram, Umbra and Skull - 4800 dust. Could cut Taldaram, though.

Token Druid - Only need Malfurion and 1x Branching Paths - 2000 dust. Lucky, got two Wispering Woods from WW pre-order.

Malygos Druid - Only need Malfurion, Malygos, 1x Branching Paths and 1x Faceless Manipulator - 4000 dust.

Toggwaggle Druid - Only need Malfurion, Toggwaggle and 1x Branching Paths - 3600 dust.

Taunt Druid - Only need Hadronox and 1x Branching Paths - 2000 dust.

Tempo Mage - Only need 1x Primordial Glyph, 2x Counterspell and 1x Kirin Tor Mage - 700 dust

Odd Paladin - Only need Baku, 1x Level Up and 1-2 Divine Favor - 2200 dust.

Odd Rogue - Only need Baku and 2x Vilespines - 2400 dust.

Spell Hunter - Only need DK Rexxar, Rok'delar and 2x To My Side - 4000 dust

Can't make Priest and Warrior without a really big commitment.

For Big Spell Mage I have Jaina and the Epics, but none of the other 4-6 legendaries.

For Warrior, I'm missing Shield Slams, Brawls, DK, Quest, Primordial Drakes... too much stuff. I have Woecleaver for Recruit, none of the other fringe legendaries.

For Priest I'm missing even more stuff: all the epics (Shadow Visions, Psychic Scream, Cabal Shadow Priest, Primordial Drakes, ) and legs (Anduin, Alexstrasza, Quest, Benedictus).

Shudderwock needs 5 legendaries and 4 epics I don't have.

Anyway, from the dust I have and could amass, the two most expensive (Cubelock and Spell Hunter/Malygos Druid) would be 8,4k dust and could be perfectly doable. With just Malfurion I would be really close to completing all Druid decks (4 in total). Going to cheapest to more expensive, I could craft 3-4 more decks.

So six months in I can have anywhere to 4 to 8 top decks (including Even Paladin, even if it's now T4 or worse but it was THE deck awhile ago). I'd say not bad.

However, I will say again, I got a lot of help from the Hall of Fame and rotation, which OP didn't have. I bought Welcome Bundle, Mammoth Bundle, Witchwood pre-order and 40 KnC packs (~$120 total). OP said he got even more resources not only without spending a dime, but also in far less time.

So while it wouldn't be unbelievable that OP managed to craft BSM, Taunt Druid and I'm guessing Odd Rogue, Odd Paladin and Odd Warrior in so short of a time with luck (Jaina from KOFT prologue, Geddon or Alex from first 10 Classic Packs, Sindra from first 10 KOFT, etc), aggressive disenchanting and aggressive farming, that IS still a lot. Because according to him it isn't just BSM, but 3-4 other decks, which is way over 20k dust.

While it can look like OP is trying to bait people, specially when not saying specifically what he did or how lucky he got, it definitely wouldn't be impossible. Maybe he really got that 100g everyday or is an Arena god.

But then we have to reply that a new player would not play Arena in any decent way when starting. Would not know right away what to craft, disenchant and how to save resources (it would take a few weeks to 1-2 months to find places like Hearthpwn, Reddit, etc) and definitely wouldn't have the skill/cards to grind 100g/day for 3 months.

Finished rank 2 last month, just won 3 games and I'm back to rank 5 again. FeelsGoodMan.

Plenty of time to try to push for Legend (sadly I only currently have one deck) or having guaranteed that golden epic, can just meme around.

posted a message on Worst designed cards

Ice Block, specially at the period when you could obtain even more copies of it. Put it up, ignore everything and proceed to play solitaire for perhaps multiple turns until you just auto-win.

Explosive Runes could be nerfed to 4 damage and would still be in every aggressive mage deck ever. The non-sense interaction with Divine Shield minions seems more like a failure of the game coders than "working as intended".

Others already mentioned Flame Leviathan, Boogeymonster, Barnes, Patches, Keleseth and pre-nerf Raza+Shadowreaper.

Shudderwock is walking that path too, you just play 3-4 specific battlecries and win the game. Though maybe the problem is more Grumble adding a bazillion 1 mana cost Shudderwocks than the thing itself...

The sad thing is that those combos were never discovered by player experimentation. It was spoon fed by Team 5. The Shudder combo was being explained step-by-step by Ben Brode to Day9 on the set reveal. And so far nobody deviated from that specific path, at best just refining the deck to get to those steps faster.

Planning sets ahead they made Raza just to combo with Shadowreaper later for Highlander Priest to be the way to play Priest. Or when the Cubelock package was released in its vast majority in Kobolds and Catacombs.

posted a message on Quest Priest mirror is real dumb

Wonder if they will implement an option to let a player offer another a draw.

But at the same time, after getting Amara down and getting to 40 HP (plus the bazillion armor and extra cards from resurrected beetles/oracles), then Zola on Amara to do it again, plus Benedictus to never die in fatigue... after all this crap it's actually really nice to see not one but two Quest Priests suffering together in Purgatory pretty much forever!

posted a message on Aggro VS Control. Opinions?

I simply get bored with a single playstyle.

I have an incomplete Aggro Mage, had midrange Even Paladin and also have Control Warlock. If I just had more dust available I would craft a Combo deck.

Aggro might have 5-6 games by the time Midrange has 3-4 or Control 2-3 but what matters is if you're having fun in that time. Sometimes you are simply not in the right frame of mind and really don't want a fatigue match or to steamroll the opponent with quick minions and want more crazy things to happen.

posted a message on Why were Witchwood cards so weak?

Witchwood doesn't actually seem weak... but Kobolds and Catacombs has an absurd power level and its ridiculous mana cheating mechanics was just gross. KOFT was very strong but not broken as KnC.

posted a message on Pity timers need to change

I think it needs to be lowered for sure, specially with no adventures and 3 full expansions a year from now on. Adventures had 5 legendaries, while expansions have 29 now. That's 24 extra per year, with a total release of 70 legendaries per year... and people are saying things like "yeah but they raised quest values by 10 gold!"

The "dust 4 for 1" is also way outdated. When the game didn't have a Standard format and cards would remain playable in the most supported format forever, the grind, time and value were probably very fair.

Almost half a decade passed, Standard and Wild were introduced, lots of other things changed (2 legs per class, 3 full expansions per year) and the economy needs to be updated too. Dusting 3 for 1, lesser pity timer (25 would be fine) and maybe even introduction of what Magic Arena is doing with a change at getting Wild cards (blank cards that let you choose any card from the same rarity).

I get that Blizzard is a company and needs to make money, no arguing with that. I bought pre-orders, bundles and etc. I despise mindless beggars, but also despise just as much mindless fanboys.

But this system is really outdated and needs to be changed, as much as their finance department think they can run the game just fine with just whales.

Should probably wait a bit more, but apparently it is.

Just got beaten by a version that runs Hemet, Jungle Hunter that destroys their useless stuff and pretty much only leaves them what they really need giving it much more speed and consistency (if it and Shudder aren't both bottom 5).

posted a message on Why does Blizzard never buff cards?

    Good arguments on both sides.

On one hand you do have lots of cards deemed worthless that became powerful when combined with cards from later expansions.

On the other, you have things like Moorabi, Prince Valanar, Runespear, etc...

Played ladder in Rank 5-1 all afternoon and most of the night, even got the 100g/day limit, and barely left from where I was alternating between Even Paladin and Control Warlock.

Despite that, as Control Warlock I beat Quest Rogue not once, not twice, but thrice. Meticulously planning removal, counting chargers and bounces left, carefully building walls, etc... That felt extremely good.

Started in mid-December, and now after 5 months, reached Rank 5 just now!

Even had to go through a Legend player who for some reason got paired against me. Feels Good Man!

posted a message on Card Nerf - Call to Arms

Even Paladin is dead, but then, with the latest refinements (Vala'nyr, Argent Commander, etc) it might not actually affect Paladin at all.

The 1 mana hero Power gone will now open the possibility to combine all that with more quality cards like Righteous Protector, Leeroy Jenkins, Divine Favor, Vicious Fledgling, Fungalmancer and even Harrison Jones for more card draw. Even tech Mindbreaker.

The overall Paladin cards are so good that someone even won 12 games in the Brawliseum forgetting to put Greymane in.

posted a message on Card Nerf - Possessed Lackey

Will this really affect Cubelock? Skull into Doomguard into Cube/Pact or Faceless for 10/15 damage (and then putting 2-3 doomguards into the pool) was the broken thing.

Spiteful Summoner as a 6 mana 4/4 when it does nothing is already terrible, imagine a 6 mana 2/2. They probably should've made it a 4/2 or at least a 3/2 when you draw it when you don't need it anymore.

The Cube burst and shenanigans are pretty much intact. If anything, this might affect Control Warlock more, which had far more weaknesses than Cube.

posted a message on Cubelock nerfed too much?

Was honestly expecting Doomguard to gain Charge as part of the Battlecry. Or if not that, Cube to be nerfed to 6 mana to allow more time for people to prepare and try to find and answer.

Skull and Gul'dan were also untouched. The Doomguard burst is still there and untouched. Cubelock is not going anywhere. If anything, this might have affected more Control Warlock since the charge with multiple Doomguards is still there.

Lackey to 6 mana was pretty harsh, but I guess necessary. They should've made it a 3/2 at the very least, maybe even a 4/2 to trade better in case you draw it when it's not needed.
