JPaynerVideo posted a message on 72 (And Counting) Interesting Facts About HearthStone You May Not Have Known!Posted in: General DiscussionBoys and girls.
Thought I'd compile a list of interesting HearthStone facts for a bit of light reading. These aren't my findings, sources are posted at the bottom. Interesting stuff, though!
-
Raid leader's "Handle it!" and "Hit it very hard." is a reference to the popular Onyxia Wipe video
-
If "Defender" from Noble Sacrifice lives (via Knife juggler, Sword of Justice, Stormwind Champion, Mind-control teching a blood imp, or Redemption) when he attacks he will say "Ahaha I lived!"
-
If you play Mindgames while your opponent has no minions in their deck a 0 cost 0/1 Shadow of Nothing gets put on your side and dies at the end of your turn. (Fact 3a: the Shadow of Nothing may (or may not) no longer die at the end of your turn.)
-
The most health a minion can have is 2,147,483,647. Anything after that is considered a negative number and the minion is destroyed.
-
Repentance and Sacrificial Pact both work on Lord Jaraxxus
-
If a Priest uses a golden Mind Vision they can get a Golden Coin from it
-
Mind-control Tech kills a minion if your side of the board is full
-
Max minion health is 2,147,483,6477 (fact 8a - this is the same as fact 4)
-
The player going first has a small advantage (statistically)
-
Each expansion has its own symbol and is marked right on the card
-
Draws are possible if both players die in the same turn (fatigue draws, for example)
-
JPaynerVideo runs the best HearthStone YouTube site
-
Hemet Nesingwary is one of the original bosses in the Tutorial
-
All of the Elite Tauren Chieftain's cards that he gives to people are names of songs in the Elite Tauren Chieftain metal band
-
There is only one spell that does not belong to a class. Coincidentally, it is the most used HearthStone card (can you guess which? ;))
-
If the second of Feugen and Stalagg to die is a Gold card, the resulting Thaddius will also be a gold card.
-
If you play a faceless manipulator against a Cobalt guardian, both copies will receive divine shield. If you play a faceless manipulator against a one-eyed cheat, it will not receive stealth.
-
Wrath is showing Muln Earthfury
-
Eye for an eye is depicting Thoros the Savior
-
Bloodmage Thalnos is actually not him, it's Turov the Risen
-
Backstab and assassinate depicts Timmo Shadestep
-
Mana addict is Vor'na the Wretched
-
"For Nazjatar" depicts Lady Sira'kess
-
Worgen Infiltrator is Edwin Blademark
-
Sunwalker is Amah the suns grace
-
Venture Co. Merc is Baxxel Geartooth
-
Violet Teacher is Spellweaver Jihan
-
Temple Enforcer might be Deacon Markus Hallow
-
Wild Pyromancer is Phosphus the Everburning
-
Argent Protector is Graccus
-
All Paladin secrets cost 1 mana, all Hunter secrets cost 2 mana, and all Mage secrets cost 3 mana.
-
Stormpike Commando is Grumpherys
-
The Doomsayer's attack clip says "Did I miss it?"
-
Secrets can only be activated on the opponent's turn.
-
The amount of experience that is awarded at the end of the game is actually based on the amount of cards that have been played during the game. Turns out BM'ing is actually useful!
-
Earth Shock can kill a Twilight Drake regardless of the amount of health on the drake.
-
Once you play a choice card as a Druid - you cannot un-play it.
-
If Feugen and Stalagg die at the same time, they'll summon 2x Thaddius
-
If Faceless Summoner summons Addled Grizzly through its battlecry, the Summoner will be a 6/6
-
Frozen minions can attack if you silence them
-
If you play Thoughtsteal while your opponent has 1 remaining card in their deck, you will only copy 1 card; if your opponent has no cards left, you won't get any, but you can still trigger Wild Pyromancer
-
Call of the Wild summons the three animal companions in alphabetical order: leftmost is Huffer, the middle one is Leokk, and the rightmost is Misha
-
Thoughtsteal originally STOLE 2 cards from your opponent's deck, instead of copying them
-
A minions Stealth can be broken without it attacking, if it deals damage from an ability, like Knife Juggler or Ragnaros.
-
If you play Magma Rager in the deck that Rafaam steals from you in his boss fight, instead of saying "What wonderful cards", he will say "I can't believe you put THAT in your deck".
-
Leeroy Jenkin's dialogue all references the infamous LEEEEERRRROOOOYYYY video from a World of Warcraft raid gone wrong.
-
Sacrificial pact can kill Jarraxus, but it can't kill Prince Malchezar in his boss encounter. Similarly, Hungry Crab cannot kill Morgl the Oracle.
-
Some of the adventure bosses will kill Doom Sayer if you play it against them and call you a cheater. This is probably because the devs knew their AI could be abused by Freeze Mage.
-
During late 2015, a "Happy Feast of Winterveil" emote was added to each class. They were amazing for BM (in my opinion).
-
The original Zoo deck was built and popularized by Reynad, streamer and Tempo Storm owner.
-
Streamer Trump won a tournament during the beta because he predicted people would bring Murloc Zoo, which he punished with 2 copies of Hungry Crab in his own Zoo deck.
-
There are several very exclusive card backs like the "Dalaran Flame", "Power Core" and "Golden Celebration" which are earned by participating in Blizzard approved eSports events.
-
There are hidden quests that the game doesn't tell you about, such as "Win 1,000 games in any mode".
-
Malygos doesn't have a picture of Malygos on it, it's actually Kalecgos.
-
Snipe also works on jaraxxus. So if Yogg plays Repentance and then Snipe, your opponent will lose if they play Jaraxxus (repentance triggers, then snipe hits you at 1 health).
-
Mal'Ganis has a picture of Varimathras on it instead.
-
Stampeding Kodo is actually a clefthoof
-
Blackwing Corruptor is actually Forang Deathrattle.
-
If your deck consists of 30 golden cards, the coin will also be golden.
-
Mind Vision in alpha cost 4 mana and stole a card from your opponent's hand.
-
It's possible to have more then 7 minions on board via a few choice technical tricks (very hard to pull off - as example: f your opponent has 7 minions on board, you play Shadow Madness on one and then play a Faceless Manipulator on it, he will get both back at the end of turn.)
-
Unleash the Hounds originally gave each friendly beast +1 attack and charge, was too powerful and then changed to the current card (For each enemy minion, summon a 1/1 hound with charge) , first costing 4 (underpowered), then 2 (overpowered) and finally 3 mana.
-
If all of the minions on the board die before Brawl activates it goes on infinitely - it doesn't crash the game, but you can't do anything for the rest of the game. (Example of this - Illidan + Knife Juggle onto Explosive Sheep, clears the board).
-
You can Mind Control a card from your opponent's hand, and put it into yours. If you have Illidan Stormrage which summons a Flame of Azeroth to activate a Knife Juggler, which triggers Explosive Sheep to kill an Anub'ar Ambusherto bounce the minion back to their hand. The Mind Control then steals it from their hand and puts it into yours.
-
The name, card art and flavor text of Infested Tauren are all a reference to the Infested Terrans (Humans) from Blizzard's StarCraft series. Flavor text:The Overmind and the Old Gods are surprisingly similar.
-
If you play enough buffs through your minions, you can activate Twin Emperor Vek'lor's battlecry without even having C'Thun in your deck (or in your collection). Same goes for Ancient Shieldbearer or all minions that require your C'thun to have at least 10 attack to have an effect.
-
Entomb is actually considered as a mind-control effect. Thus, if you play it while you have a Djinni of Zephyrs on the board, the effect will be copied on your Djinni and it will be shuffled into your deck, too
- The flavortext on Carrion Grub refers to Kansas' 'Carry on my Wayward Son'
- If you play Nefarian when the opponent is Jaraxxus, you get Warlock cards regardless of the opponent's class before they played it. If the opponent is Ragnaros, you get 2 Tail Swipes that deal 4 damage for 4 mana (enough to kill Rag next turn)
-
Winning the game as Jaraxxus grants you Warlock xp regardless ofyour starting class
-
Minions you're not supposed to be able to play (adventure boss minions) often have amusing dialogue if you mind control and attack with them
- Playing a Swashburglar against Ragnaros (hero from Major Domo) provides a coin instead of a card.
Hopefully you guys have some more nifty ones - let's hear em!

MrZNF posted a message on Blizzard stealing our gold? (Heroic Brawl is bad value)Posted in: General DiscussionSo the new Heroic Tavern Brawl seems to me like a casino in that "the house always wins".
I wanted to prove this, so I did some slight number crunching and came to the conclusion that:
For all gold used to pay for Entrance Fees, Blizzard will take away about ~30%, compared to the prizepool.I'm assuming that people paying with cash can be seen as paying 10 dollars for getting 1000 gold (which in itself can be seen as a pretty good deal). I'm also assuming that 100 dust ≈ 1 pack = 100 gold and that a golden legendary = 1600 dust = 1600 gold
Screenshot of my statistics: http://i67.tinypic.com/2vx3x2p.png
Full Excel file: https://www.mediafire.com/?te9edh3dgwewa35
I was personally very excited by the announcement. I like the idea of playing in tournaments, but current tournaments seem not very accessible in that you need to sign up on a third-party website, add people to your friend-list in order to play against them, make screenshots of your wins to prove that you won, etc. Therefore, an officially supported tournament mode would be very cool in my opinion. However, I don't like the fact that it seems as if Blizzard is taking a bite out of the prize-pot. Of course there is room for error in my calculations due to all the assumptions made, but I don't think I'm off by more than 30%. I'd love for someone to prove me wrong. But until then, I'm reconsidering if I'll want to enter this.
I'm all for some competitive play and don't mind paying an entrance fee, but I don't want that entrance fee to be eaten up by the house.
Whatdyall think about this? Is Blizzard stealing our gold/money, or is this their fair share of the entrance fee?--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: To anyone that has a problem with me choosing to use the word "stealing": Please imagine an insurance company not paying out the insurance you bought, on a technicality. I would consider this a form of theft, as I paid them money for a service they then don't provide according to my expectations. In this sense, I'm arguing that the Heroic Tavern Brawl is "stealing" gold from the people that enter, as the rewards are not high enough for the entrance fee paid and this is not obvious from the information gotten from the promotion, i.e. a technicality I'm sharing with you all.
P.S. Thank you mods for changing the thread title.

"Turn 3 thru when they surrender:"
LOL You weren't kidding. I'm 5/5 concede by turn 4 or 5.
Edit: I have now won 12/12 games with EVERY SINGLE ONE ending w/ a concede on or before turn 10.
Time to run a new deck. This is too OhPee.
