Did you ever think you lost the game because the opponent was better than you? Just a thought.

ExcelsiorUA posted a message on Help for a new player - Improve deck or craft a better one?Posted in: General Deck BuildingRank 5 isn't that hard for a thinker, it's Hearthstone, not rocket science.
Hunter deck is the best for start, and not so hard to pilot.
As for the Mage deck, secret tempo mage should be your answer with low dust budget.

Kla_guy posted a message on Help for a new player - Improve deck or craft a better one?Posted in: General Deck BuildingI seriously struggle to believe you, it took me like 8-10 months just to reach rank 10 [...]
Honestly, I have no clue whether OP is telling the truth or not... maybe if he posted proof, that could help ;)Anyway, in playing this game, like in most things, people range over a wide set of values about skill, time invested, luck, <insert any meaningful factor here>. Most will find themselves somewhere in the middle of the spectrum, but there are bound to be outliers. Again, I don't know if the story is true or not, but still it's possible, however unlikely it might seem. For example, you say it took you like 8-10 months just to reach rank 10. Fine, but I made it in 2 and a half months (F2PBTW), and I'm a modest player, pretty sure others have done better. I read of a guy who claims to have hit Legend the 1st time he tried, with little experience (not even all heroes to level 10) and with a pretty poor collection. Hard to believe, sure, perhaps even a bit unnerving for us common mortals, but you can't rule it out. Also, no need to be so aggressive ;) -

Goliathar1 posted a message on This meta is fantasticPosted in: General DiscussionI actually am astounded at how much the few little nerfs/tweaks helped revive this meta. It was crap before, I think most of us can agree with that. Most decks were unplayable.
Im seeing quest warrior, dead man's hand warrior, tempo rogue (both elemental and pirates), control mage, secret mage, big priest, raza priest, control warlock, a zoo warlock (only once, but still!), Aggro paladin, buffadin, jade Druid, big/ramp Druid, evolve shaman, midrange hunter!!! Every class has at least one, most of them two, viable archetypes. I'm REALLY enjoying the meta. Great job on the nerfs, blitz! And no, I'm not being sarcastic!
what are your thoughts?

IDBY posted a message on To reduce the barriers of entry for new players should Blizzard make all common/rare Classic set cards free to all players?Posted in: General DiscussionNo, and I am a relatively new player. I started a month and a half before Ungoro was released. I was easily able to find beginner decks with the help of google. The decks helped me to learn the game and to start to learn what to expect others to play as a counter. I didnt win a lot in the beginning, but the game isnt just about winning for me. Its the complexity of the game. It may appear simple at first, but the endless decks that can be made and the way they are played is what hooked me. Then the way you draw and what to play next or counter what others play is very challenging.
While the game is free to install and play, and can be played that way, it isnt designed as completely free. A modest investment in either time or money can make the game more enjoyable. You can either invest massive amounts of time and gain gold, spend little time but lots of money, or a combination of the two. But thats what makes it open to more people.
Giving things away will not make people like the game more, and it already gives away a lot. What it may end up doing is make people value it less. Things that are given for free have little value to people, when you have something invested, you value it more. What you invest makes no difference, time or money are both valuable. -

A few QoL changes would be better for newbies and more experienced players alike:
- Daily bonus (some gold and sometimes packs just for connecting)
- Pack Gifts when sets are released
- Packs when some game milestones are reached (30 million accounts and just 3 packs given? Shadowverse has given more than 40 when they got to 6-7-8-9-10-11 and 12 million downloads)
- Special promotions from time to time
- Achievements from winning games (scoreboard, seasonal, quests. 10 gold every 3 wins, capped at 100g is too low) -

CrovaxTheCursed posted a message on To reduce the barriers of entry for new players should Blizzard make all common/rare Classic set cards free to all players?Posted in: General DiscussionThe game is already accessible for new players, it just doesn't always appear that way because the most popular decks cost over 10k dust and they release expansions too frequently with too much filler. It's very possible to build decks that will compete on ladder for around 2k dust. Basic cards are stronger than people think, and nobody expects them. As another user said, if a player spends a month learning the game/meta/strategy then they should be poised to make rank 15 easily, and likely rank 10, without having to dust their whole collection for 1 deck.
What HS needs is a form of trading the cards. Not with other players, but with the actual UI. It's difficult for new players to build the deck they want to play, because they pull cards they will never use (for me that's all Warrior and Hunter cards). While for some players that puts them ahead on dust if they plan to use the card, for someone who doesn't use that card it only puts them ahead 1/4 of what the other player would get. If they had an option to trade (instead of dust) a card, one could swap out without taking as big of a hit. That way it doesn't help you to straight up DE cards, but if you save them then you could eventually trade them for a useful card later when you need it (common for common, rare for rare, etc).
Ofc they want money, so that won't happen. Still, I wish they would implement a one time reroll on Legendary cards pulled from packs. Say you pull a Professor Putricide but you never play Hunter. It would be amazing if you could reroll the Legendary once for another random Legendary, for each Legendary you pull. No money lost for Blizz to speak of, and players would get a second opportunity to pack that Legendary they want, rather than dusting 4 others.

SlipCore posted a message on 500 MB to change 6 numbers.Posted in: General DiscussionWhat a 500 MB?
PC launcher showed me, like it start downloading 600+MB, but then progress bar was filled quickly. Looks like about 10-15 MB was downloaded, and client just calculate checksum to verify data files. I would not be able to load 500 megabytes very quickly through a mobile Internet.
Same story with previous patches. Launcher show that it is going to download 3+ GB, but it's not true.

SamHobbs494 posted a message on How much cash are you willing to spend on hearthstone??Posted in: General DiscussionDoes make me glad I joined this game pretty early. To be a new player now and run into the decks we have with no hope of getting all those cards without serious £££ would be so daunting, not sure I could do it. Its like any game you need to spend money on though and new players always need to spend more to catch up but good players will catch up with less money than bad players. If you can master Arena (I never have) that will go along way into feeding you gold and dust and packs

That's good, I've used this deck to reach Rank 5 the previous 2 months. This month I got stuck with it around Rank 8-9, so crafted Aggro druid instead to get to Rank 5.

This is really good. I kinda got stuck around Rank 9 with my own Aggro Druid deck (with 1 Living Mana), spent 80 dust on this one, and went 24-13 to Rank 5. Well worth it, thank you!

This is the same as sonecaroxx's deck from a few months ago: http://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/939638-free-to-play-rank-23-to-legend-in-3-days-day-80
Good to see it is still holding up.

Wow this is not bad, definitely can give Warlock more time to control the board.

Proof of Rank 5: http://imgur.com/tbeTO83
Well, there's no actual secret to climbing like crazy, the information is out there in lots of videos, articles, I just had to go out and use it. I have friends who told me that it was hard for any new player, and the learning curve was quite punishing, but I was expecting it. Plus my first month was kinda learning the game with my tempo mage deck, and got to Rank 16. Doesn't mean I suddenly know all the decks and details, but learning the fundamentals seems to be important here. Trump Teachings video series especially helped me beat Legendary decks with Basic cards.
Satoshi, reached Legend on a BRAND NEW account in just 17 hours using Token (Aggro) Druid. https://www.reddit.com/r/hearthstone/comments/6wadf6/3104satoshi_hits_legend_with_f2p_account_in_17/
Disguised Toast's run using F2P Hunter during the Un'goro meta seems to be quite well known as well. It is these examples, plus some people on battle.net forums saying they reached Rank 5 with only a few months play, that I knew I could do it. And why not?
Yes, perhaps my hunter deck wasn't the best up to Rank 13, but I had most of the key cards like Savannah Highmane, Alleycat + Razormaw. And no, Hunter seems to be in a much better place than before the nerfs, I didn't even know it was Tier 1 according to TempoStorm until today. Yes Evolve Shaman was frustrating to play against, lost most of those games but won some :). Jade druid I knew I had to go face almost all the time. In Ranks 9-5 I started facing a bunch of Keleseth Rogues, some of which I couldn't do anything about, but there were many other players I faced that let me easily take control of the game.
Oh, of course it did :).
Hearthstone has me curious with how most people play the game. Are a lot of people stuck at lower ranks after more than 200 games or do most people just play casual to Rank 20/15 for the rewards? It seems to be a mix, and why Rank 20 is full of netdecks like Pirate Warrior.

I saw the reply I got as quite negative, and so didn't bother to reply. I WAS being realistic and definitely believed I could hit Rank 10, and 5 would be possible if I kept playing.
Well, after the nerfs hit I started working on my Mid-Range Hunter deck. I'd create a version, go on a win streak, then when I started to lose a few, upgrade a few cards. At the same time I was making sure in every game, I was expanding my familiarity of the main aoe spells, minions etc of each class. Though I found that establishing the right balance between board control and going face was a far more consistent indicator of whether I'd win or lose games.
I've hit Rank 5 now, and on the way, I'd play against Hunters and win against almost all of them. I'd see them making inefficient plays, going for face, when I could just make value trades with their minions. So I did have to craft a bunch of cards, namely, having 2x Eaglehorn Bow was essential for those times I needed that extra board control.
From what it seems, you were saying having a bigger collection = better rank, and that I'd get stuck at a lower rank until I got a bigger collection. Rather I think it is knowledge of the cards from those who do have bigger collections that helped me, I don't need to own the cards to know what they do.

Solid deck, I upgraded the Hunter deck I had, using this as a guide. Got to rank 5 with a very similar deck, just -1 Golakka Crawler for +1 Dire Wolf Alpha, and -1 Bearshark for +1 Tundra Rhino.
Around 66% winrate for me from Rank 13 to 5

Hi,
I've been playing Hearthstone for a month, and I've reached a point where I feel I need some help to get further in the game. I built this mage deck, and peaked at Rank 16 with it, however I found that I had to play almost perfectly to win or take initiative.
I'm now thinking I can probably upgrade this deck to a secret tempo mage, but it requires Karazhan cards which I don't have, so instead I thought of crafting either aggro druid or F2P Hunter. I'd ideally want to get to rank 10, maybe 5 this month, but perhaps that requires me to disenchant too many cards just to get 1 deck that might not be effective after patch 9.1 comes out.
If having to buy Karazhan becomes a pay-wall to improving my mage deck, I'd be willing to switch to Hunter/Druid, but I'd be having to start again learning a new deck I guess.
I'd also want to get better at arena so perhaps I can more easily build up my collection.
So TL;DR: If I want to get to at least Rank 10 this month, what should I focus on? Improving my most experienced mage deck, crafting and learning a new meta deck, or getting better at the game to do arena more?
