posted a message on Since hearthstone has given up the gold economy, are f2p players now unable to compete in standard?

I think it's difficult to figure out the economy of it all at this point. I would like to know how you arrived at the 40 packs?

F2P should definitely be able to compete through grinding. I really hope the new system will accommodate that, but I think it's really hard to evaluate right now, not knowing how the new quests will work, how much experience they will give, how much experience is needed to level up etc.

posted a message on New Game Mode: Duels

I, for one, is very excited about this new game mode! I've played a TON of all the different single player, Dungeon Run-type modes, and I'm stoked about getting to play against other players. Sure, this probably won't be for everyone, especially people who don't enjoy RNG, but then Battlegrounds is not for everyone either.

Also, people who don't have wild cards can easily play this mode as well. You only need 16 cards for you starter deck, so unless they make an all-wild rotation, it will always be possible to build a deck. Will it be the best deck? Maybe not, but that's the challenge of it! Right now, I'm sure pretty much every player would be able to build some kind of deck using only cards from Scholomance, Basic and Classic. Again, it's just 16 cards, and you'll be able to discover all sorts of crazy stuff between games.

Personally, I'm much more excited about this than tournament mode, budget mode or similar modes that I've seen people propose.

    Quote from CarbonPhoenix >>

So I just got the Golden cards, and the description said something about traveling to 7 different boards. I think the actual trigger is experiencing different game boards since that's what the Transfer student's special ability is about. And the list given by the users above just happen to have 7 different boards.

No. This list of things to do was found by looking in the patch notes. Playing on seven different boards, e.g. in wild, will not give you the goldens.

posted a message on Crafting one legendary: nerfed Mindrender Illucia or Lorekeeper Polkelt

Illucia is not even played anymore in Priest, whereas Polkelt is mandatory in the best deck right now for ladder : Face Hunter

Dear face hunter, OP is asking a question regarding wild. Thanks face hunter.

Same answer (I’m wild legend every month): Polkelt. But, Illucia is a very powerful yet very technical card. You’ll have to master Razakus and the meta before being able to use her properly. I’ve faced so many people misusing her that I feel they changed the way she was perceived more than the nerf itself, because she’s still winning games for me.

So when the time comes for your next craft, don’t count her out just because you’re going for Polkelt right now.

I had not read all the post, only the title, my bad here.

People still assuming in 2020 that face hunter is the least skilled deck to play is hilarious though, it's not the same playstyle that it was in 2015 when you only go face, but yeah so funny "hur durr face hunter bad"

Nothing personal but I can’t take seriously anyone who talks about skill regarding hs. Maybe it’s a language thing. I don’t hit legend every month because I’m “skilled”, I reach it because, on average, I know the game and the meta better than my opponents, period.

On the other hand, since my early MTG days I always despised aggro/face decks, even if I accept the fact that they have to exist to maintain balance. But as long as I can play control decks with a positive win rate, it doesn’t matter much, and at least these games do go faster.

I would argue that knowing the game, the meta and the matchups, and playing accordingly is being skilled.

posted a message on Hearthstone in the past and today
    Quote from Wokitiki >>

Legendaries should be 2x stronger and common + rare cards should be shit cards nobody wants to use, but they have to until they get better cards.

I could not disagree more with this take. It would take forever for new players to get a playable deck if rares and commons were bad. Plus, if legendaries were the strongest cards, every deck  would be playing the same legendaries which would make the meta feel so stale. This is literally why Ragnaros and Sylvanas were hall of famed: they were solid cards that could be slotted into any deck, which made decks and classes feel less unique. Commons and rares should be the backbone of every deck. Legendaries should be interesting and unique, either a strong one-off effect, or a card you build your deck around.

To return to the subject, I started playing Hearthstone after the Old Gods expansion, so four years. In that time, Hearthstone has only gotten better IMO. Generally, metas have gotten more balanced, allowing for a greater variety of decks, and match-ups have become more equal and play out in different ways every time. To me, Hearthstone has never been more enjoyable than it is now.

posted a message on The Scholar Jaina Bundle - Containing 5 Special Mage Packs & A New Mage Skin

HONESTLY, the amount of people here complaining about Jaina's chest size, that she's wearing too much clothes, basically that she's not sexualized enough... Could you stop, please? Chest size is not a defining characteristic, it's a physical trait. Who knows, maybe Jaina did a Scarlett Johansson and had a breast reduction, because let me tell you, those things are impractical.

Please criticize the portrait for the lack of new voice lines etc., but don't complain that she's not at sexy as you would like her to be. It comes across as pretty gross. It's no wonder that there isn't a lot of women in this community.

posted a message on Middle Expansion?
    Quote from Whodatninja >>

The Year of the Phoenix roadmap (google it) doesn't show an adventure for the second expansion. There is one icon that just says "spell locked", so I guess in theory that could wind up being solo content of some sort, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

It's right that it doesn't show the solo content on the roadmap, but in the "welcome to the year of the phoenix"-video, the game director clearly states that each expansion will have PvE content, so there will likely be some form of adventure - but probably not with new cards.

    posted a message on Grandmasters 2020 Season 2 - Preview Week 1

I really don't think that there isn't a lot of women playing, I just think we're not as vocal about it because, as you've so beautifully stated, "we all know that many girls don't play card games" - it isn't seen as a women's hobby, so even if we do play, we don't take it as seriously or we understate how much of a hobby it really is, even to ourselves. That keeps many women from even thinking about going pro.

I actually think that Hearthstone is great at being gender-neutral and catering to a wide audience. The whimsical card art is fun and vibrant, not at all male-centric, and there are plenty of fun, interesting female characters. I appreciate your sentiment though!

posted a message on Schoolomancy OTK Mage

Oh boy, do I have a deck for you!

    OTK Freeze Mage
Export to BBCode Export to Cockatrice Export to MarkDown Export to Html Clone this deck
    Minion (4) Ability (25) Weapon (1)
    Loading Collection

Basically, the game plan is to reorder your deck with Polkelt and then continually freeze your opponent's board until you've drawn Mozaki and your two Apprentices, and then you just kill your opponent by playing tons of free spells, ending with Arcane Missiles and Frost Bolt. If you play Polkelt on curve, it's guaranteed OTK turn 9 - turn 8 if you've got the coin.

I'm surprised to see Highlander Mage at the top of tier 2, I don't think I've met a single one on ladder yet. Also surprised that there's no Rogue, weapon or otherwise.

Galakrond Warlock is super strong, Plague of Flames absolutely wrecks Druid, and it can keep up with aggro  thanks to the Soul Fragment package.

posted a message on Scholomance Meta strongest opening? - What the hell
    Quote from thazud >>

It is strange. Blizzard nerfed Druids ability to ramp by hitting wild growth, innervate and Nourish.

A year or so later Druid has: lightning bloom, breath of the wild and overgrowth.

Part of the reason why those cards were nerfed was that they were evergreen cards, which gave permanent design space issues.

But yeah, Druids probably have a little too much ramp now...

posted a message on Killbin or Kibler?

Kibler all day, every day. I like the decks he's playing, I like his calm demeanour and I learn a lot from him. His card reviews and meta commentary is the best there is, and the occasional Shiro sighting doesn't hurt of course :) I also miss having him on the card reveal streams, he always did such a good job.

Not a fan of Regis, he's too cringe for my taste. Seems like a good guy, though.

posted a message on New set not open in Europe?

No one is playing with the new set. You can open pre-purchased packs on all servers, and some streamers have been theorycrafting and playing against each other on a closed Blizzard server. But that's all.
