Nice work, always fun to read what other people come up with.

1 comment about a minor detail, doesn't Flesh Ripper's battelcry need to say "all other undead" ;-)

Thanks! And yes, there are a lot of minor text errors with the cards, it's just a hassle to fix them all after the fact. Thanks for pointing that one out though.

Adding reliable tutor effects to Hearthstone would kill the game outright. It would remove any amount of fun left in the game and make every watch same-y and mechanical.

Not exactly sure what you mean

Effects that let you search your deck for cards would make every game go the same way almost every time. The element of randomness is what makes CCGs appealing over other strategy games. MTG uses fetch/tutor effects because the decks are minimum 60 cards, and a good chunk of those are resource cards. Hearthstone doesn't have those weighing the decks down, so if you introduced more reliable fetch/tutor effects to, as you say "search for that fireball [you] need" then every game will play out the exact same because people will find the optimal path to win.

If you guys looked at the whole gallery I linked (which has the full set of class cards) you'd see that Frostmourne doesn't reset your health to 30. I kind of assumed people would look at the full gallery.

I think two of the hero powers are fair but Icy Touch might be a bit too strong. Mograin is fair for the mana cost. The Runeforged blades seem a bit underwhelming - maybe make them 3/3 or even 4/2(to compare to Death's Bite/Truesilver Champion). (snip) Otherwise quite nice, I like your ideas. :)

Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep it all in mind if I decide to rebalance the class again. Maybe I should change icy Touch to Freeze a minion instead? It's not like you're gonna get it every turn, so it seems fair enough then right?

Hello there. I originally designed my concept for the Death Knight class back in April of 2015, but I haven't posted it anywhere other than Tumblr since then. I figured I might as well finally post it here for feedback and see how I can improve in card design for Hearthstone.

It is now January 2016 and I have since restructured much of the class, balanced some cards and created new cards to account for all expansions.

First off, here's the whole gallery (Updated to LoE now). You can feel free to look at it as you wish and skip my commentary to let the cards speak for themselves. But also keep in mind that mana cost to power balance isn't my primary concern. My focus is on design over development.

The first thing I designed before anything else was the Hero Power. I didn't play much WoW, but I played sometimes on my friend's account. The one thing that really stuck out to me about the Death Knight was the tutorial area, where you're encouraged to try every different aspect of the class. That's what inspired this dynamic Hero Power over a single static power. Each of them also benefits the class's different primary mechanics, of course. I have updated this for balance and to add functionality with new cards like Justuicar Trueheart. Rune Magic is an auto-cast power, and does not trigger Inspire. Your hero power can be upgraded by Justicar Trueheart and Discovered by Finley. No matter what form it is in while copied by Sideshow Spelleater, the recipient will gain Rune Magic at the start of their next turn.

The three primary mechanics of my Death Knight are weapons/hero attacks, freezing/control magic and Undead. I decided to focus on three mechanics to make the class heavily diverse and to promote several playstyles within the class that are all viable. To that end, I worked around the hero powers to make sure there was a way to make them relevant no matter what type of deck you're playing.

One of my personal favourite things in card games is the possibility of playing some highly impactful and flashy cards. I really wanted that to come through with the Death Knight in the epics and rares, which reward you for playing big and risky. With Hearthstone, it's actually a challenge to design truly cool and flashy cards. The space for text is so limited, so you need to be brief and you need to think outside the box of conventional CCG uniqueness. (Remember, this DOES NOT reset your health, the Lich King just has a max health of 30 like any other hero.)

That being said, sometimes derivative cards can be really cool, too. The Death Knight legendaries might not be amazingly unique, but they're still big, flashy and themed well. I just really love the Death Knight aesthetic, and playing around with the legendaries was one of the most enjoyable parts of designing this class.

The final card i want to draw attention to is the common weapon. The Runeforged blade is another card I was really excited about in design. I feel like there's a lot of potential for mode-changing abilities in this class, and this is just one of the possibilities that I've explored. I also made sure to separate the weapons from the undead theme here, as I didn't really want too much bleed between all three of the major mechanics.

I'll let you see the rest of the cards for yourself. I had a lot of fun designing cards for the new expansion, as theme design is kind of my thing. Hope you enjoy the updates to my Death Knight class.

It's very similar to be sure, but in some ways it's better and some ways it's worse.

Pros: It can't be silenced until after it attacks at least once, meaning you will always get the "secondary bod" and said body doesn't die to 1-damage removal.

Cons: It's not a mech. That's about it.

So does every single 2 and almost every 3 health minion in the game. Your logic is sad.

I'd rather Blizz give exclusive cardbacks to special events and organizations than special cards/exclusive golden cards. This is far better than what most card games do.

It's a Combatant in The Grand Tournament and it's  a Savage Druid. Seems fine to me. Or were you just not aware that this expansion was set in a tournament?

Even getting it in North America is a hassle and involves joining a college club. Don't bother.

This expansion needs to be one thing for it to be a success in my eyes: Fun.

It needs unique things that let me make unique decks, that's all. Hearthstone is the card game I play to have fun (and if I need to win a lot I just play my control warrior deck.)

Just gonna throw my 2 cents in here: Patron isn't all that hard to beat if you know how to play the deck well. I play control warrior almost exclusively, but I went out of my way to understand the Patron deck and how the matchup works. I haven't lost to a Patron deck since.

Control Warrior is by far more annoying for me than Hunter, mostly because Control Warrior just drags the game out way longer than it ever needs to be, even worse than Priest control.
