posted a message on Tickatus is good or bad for this game because...

The "issue" isn't directly the card itself, just all the dumb value generation and duplication mechanics that's been trending on for some time now when blizzard are making cards. In a vacuum, tickatus itself is a perfectly fine card, its value impact is the same as something like a prime card or waxadred in terms of fatigue. Heck, it's even being dropped for envoy lately. When you have to play against more than one in a game though it's pretty backbreaking.

Looking forward to classic where cards materialising out of thin air doesn't exist.

This is so damn confusing of a card for a free set. The rest of the set are really easy to understand for beginners but I can't see someone new to the game understanding this very well.

Honestly the problem with secret mage is just the ability to cheat them out for free. If mage was forced to pay 3 mana, the deck would be so much less oppressive because it wouldn't be able to set up minions that get covered by secret protection so early in the game. Kabal lackey, kirin tor mage and mad scientist are, imo, the entire reason why the deck is so oppressive. 1 mana 2/1 which sets up a turn 1 rigged fair games that most decks are unable to react to is pure horse shit. Flakmage is powerful, but if you had to pay 3 mana to use the effect it's fine.

Secret mage currently has no bad matchups, it's green across the board. It's a huge issue.

Until dark arts goes back to 2 mana, 1 mana 3/3 or 2 2/1s and draw a card is going to snowball you through the early games. It's just too unfair vs what everyone else has access too. Also, you seem to get buckets of triple golem/eggs a LOT. It's not uncommon to see them spamming them down for 5+ turns in a row.

Also can we just remove the lifesteal from Kilmox already? The 1 mana nerf does almost nothing to it, given how you just keep it until you're almost dead. Yes treasures are supposed to be good, but this thing is regularly a 10/10+ rush which provides an infinite discard target and heals half your health.  It'd still be good without lifesteal, but not a swiss army knife that solves all your problems and swings you from death to winning.

posted a message on Manastorm - new?

Is this a new treasure that randomly got patched in? I've played duels a lot and thought I've seen every treasure out there, but I was offered this on my second passive treasure. It automatically starts both players at 10 mana. I picked it for hillarity sake and it's pretty funny to be able to mulligan for your highest cost timmy stuff while the opponent keeps 1 drops. Feels extremely coinflip heavy on who goes first to make it work though - turn 1 troublemaker is brutal, but not when it's against a board already.

Lol I literally just won a game where my opponent played tickatus 3 times. Git gud scrub

Because your deck was obviously a counter to it. Some decks literally can't beat certain decks at all.

So like how aggro steamrolls tickatus warlock, got it!

I'm saying if you lost to a discovered card you probably were not in a great position to win the game anyway. So this whole characterization of modern hearthstone being a roulette is silly.

The random effects create gameplay variance and force adaptability.

Adaptability? Control games, when they do rarely happen nowdays, are down to generating more cards than your opponents and getting lucky striking higher value ones than them. There's no "adapting" to it, either your galakrond gives you a murozond or a frazzled freshman. The ability of cards to create ridiculous creation chains will easily gain card advantage over many of the opponent's cards that they put in their own deck.

For example, and I kid you not, I just lost a priest mirror in arena due to raise dead -> wandmaker -> cloning device -> wandmaker -> draconic studies -> skeletal dragon -> ysera. Please tell me how I was supposed to play around one card generating such extreme amounts of value other than clenching my lucky clover?

posted a message on Paladin is so disgusting right now

It's only alura breaking the game here, but she could do that anyway with coin into commencement or blessing of authority. It's just one card warping a whole deck. Nozdormu is fine, you get to use the 10 mana before they do, I think it's a fun and interesting card.

If it's any consolation, Team 5 acknowledged the over abundance of "created by" cards in a recent AMA. Dean Ayala basically promised a significant decrease in that style of design going forward.

Dunno how long ago this was considering the latest mini set has clown fiesta "created by" cards. Envoy Rustwix, Keywarden Ivory, Guidance, Saddlemaster, Illidari Studies, Resizing Pouch. Granted most of these aren't seeing play, but the design aspects are still there.

Rustwix is a big offender of the casino HS that we all hate. It can generate a kanrethad which resummons rustwix, throwing more primes into your deck and potentially even more kanrethads - it's a card that can go infinite by itself if you just crossed your created by fingers!

How the hell is it "going to fail"? Yes it's going to have way less people playing and the meta will be permanently the same, but it's still a refreshing break for when you get frustrated at the current state of hearthstone where mana cheating swing turns and "created by" run the show, resulting in crushingly depressing losses that are out of your control. The only stupid "well I guess I lose" cards I can think of are Innervate and bane of doom (which nobody played).

The next time you lose to a pyroblast created by cabalist's tome created by tome of intellect created by wand thief, just remember how none of that bullshit happened in the beginning of the game.

So yeah if your mage opponent discovers effectively 7 cards while spending 7 mana and using 3 cards, odds are they might just get a burn spell of some kind that wins them the game. That was never gonna be a solid winning game unless your opponent just totally whiffed.

I think you missed the point. A lot of people can’t stand sitting there while a Mage “discovers” 7 cards in one turn, which could be junk or could be the perfect card for taking you out. What’s the point of making something like Soul Mirror legendary if a Priest player can “discover” 3 copies of it? The discover mechanic adds a lot of randomness to the game, which many dislike. You clearly like it, so you probably wouldn’t like the “boring” classic mode where you don’t get to “rope” your opponent discovering 7 spells a turn.

Exactly this. and it's rife among multiple classes. It's not fun losing to more cards that didn't even start in the opponent's deck, it's a slot machine fiesta. At least with degenerate leeroy combos for example, you know it exists in their deck and you know you have to play around certain cards the best you can. Here, you can anticipate what your opponent is capable of doing and plan accordingly. Fast forward to today, you're plaing against lackeys which honest to god probably have the potential to randomly generate any spell or minion in the game via discovery chains. Or playing against 3 murozonds from galakrond. Or renew into palm reading into renew into palm reading into shadow word death, you get the point. You have no idea how many damn shadow word deaths you're supposed to bait out or play around, you just flip coins every turn. There wasn't any thought to this, it was just a dumb luck generation chain.

Not quite. FON/SR, Leeroy/Shadowstep, windfury/rockbiter, Buzzard/UTH and Rockbiter/doomhammer(al'akir) combos decided a LOT of games, also consider the low quality of taunt minions, heals and interruption tools.

Now that I recall back, I can't remember if the Alexstrasza/charge with gorehowl combo existed back then either. Still, losing to these combos is still much preferred than discover chains imo.

I like watcher. If anything, Siegebreaker is boring and pretty mediocre in itself - wrathspike brute would be a lot more interesting in that slot over him to allow demons to deal with divine shield.
