I agree with nerfing the card. It was too powerful with very little drawback in the usual use case.

Giving a Wild Growth to your oponent is very hazardous, unless you play the card as a finisher or after turn 9, since the drawback dissapears. You could circunvent this problem because the minion had charge.

Removing the charge, which was the problematic property, was mandatory. But giving 2 health only is simply not enough for the card to have any chances of being played. The drawback is gigantic.

It would need to be 2 mana, or have better stats (4/5 as minimum).

Or maybe make it give mana a crystal to both players. That would be pretty interesting.

Level Up! is a very nice idea that fits the theme perfectly... but that's all. Only the name is done right. The rest is full of flaws that contradicts the fantasy and the lore of the card.

But whatever. Being correct in the theme and fantasy is irrelevant.

Not that I don't see where you're coming from, but I think you sort of have to look at this  stuff in the context of Hearthstone itself. Hearthstone does tons of stuff like this that doesn't quite jive 100% with the associated thematic elements in Warcraft, and it often comes across like an interesting mechanic that somebody then tried to look for a good lore element to attach it to, without looking the other way around to see if that lore element really had that mechanic as its best fit.

    Again, totally get where yo're coming from and it's perfectly valid too, I'm just explaining why it's still popular, because it still fits well enough within the context of how Hearthstone does things. In my opinion at least, it certainly fits better than a lot of the entries we get every week with a ton of unique token cards, especially the ones that are class-specific, but part of that is also me being bitter because I have to work all those into the finalist topic by hand which takes forever. ;_;

I see your point too, a little leeway is ok. We can see it on cards like Astral Communion. In WoW you get Solar or Lunar energy at the cost of having to channel the spell. So in essence, you are giving up something to get to a better position afterwards. In HS it translates into giving up cards to get 10 mana crystals. The spell does different things, but the essence is the same for the two versions, you give up something to get an advantage later.

The fantasy and the theme is preserved but adapted to the HS mechanics.

The problem with Level Up! is just that it doesn't capture the fantasy at all. In fact you can actually "delevel" your creatures while you use it.

For example, you use this on a Knife Juggler and you get a Coldlight Oracle, Fencing Coach or Gnomish Experimenter. Your minion is extrictly worse than before. It didn't level up at all! It lost levels indeed!

That is the real problem. Is a total contradiction of the theme.

A little flexibility is ok, but it should mantain the fantasy. That is the real challenge.

PD: A feel your pain too. The format of the contest is really taxing on your end. Kudos to you.

Level Up! is a very nice idea that fits the theme perfectly... but that's all. Only the name is done right. The rest is full of flaws that contradicts the fantasy and the lore of the card.

Let's imagine you are a Warrior. When you level up in WoW, you stay as a Warrior! You do not magically turn into a Mage or a Priest or even Deathwing! You become more powerful, yeah, but you do not turn into another being. That is what this card does. It clashes thematically with its own name. If it was called Upgrade, Morph or something else it would be ok, but claiming this is a level up is outrageous.

A correct Level Up! could have been:

    Correct Level Up!

That would have been perfect as it captures the fantasy of the level up mechanic in WoW and fits the theme perfectly. But of course it is not as flashy and cool as transforming Dr. Boom into Ragnaros the Firelord for a 15 damage turn... For reference here is the list of the possible minions you can get if you use this thing on Dr. Boom after attacking of course: 8 mana minion cards.

Another flaw: There is a chance that you can actually "delevel" your creatures while you use it.

For example, you use this on a Knife Juggler and you get a Coldlight Oracle, Fencing Coach or Gnomish Experimenter. Your minion is extrictly worse than before. It didn't level up at all! It lost levels indeed!

But whatever. Being correct in the theme and fantasy is irrelevant. You just need to do flashy stuff or card that creates a zillion more cards to get the votes of the masses.

Typical Overnerf by Blizzard, a la Starving Buzzard style.

    Major Healing Potion

A must have for any adventurer!

Sometimes a bit of extra healing is what you need to survive all the rampaging aggro decks that infest the game, and a healing potion fits the "neutral spell" perfectly as something that any class could use to regain health.

To balance the card I looked at cards like Flash Heal, Holy Light, Healing Touch. I could have balanced mine reducing the amount of healing it provides, and thus making it pretty unplayable (those cards aren't played very much) or nerfing its versatility (it can only heal yourself like Antique Healbot or Seal of Light). I chose this last option so you can't use it to heal minions or to "heal" the enemy hero with the Auchenai Soulpriest in play.

    Noxius Coating

An interesting use for an atribute that is seldom used and fits the rogue perfectly.

    Krazz Cannon

Squeaky noise when you activate it.

Flavor text: "Loaded with everything but the kitchen sink."

    Desing Notes:

It actually deals damage to the enemy hero instead of a random enemy because discarding a card to kill a Leper Gnome felt very punishing, making the card unplayable.

I think this incarnation feels rewarding enough and allows some interesting crazy combos.

Hope you like it, and good luck to everyone!

For those who don't get the reference: "Everything But the Kitchen Sink"
