Designing a top-level metagame is hard. People will always play the best decks out there, leaving less room for variety.
Yeah, that's why all cards of warrior are taunt cards, it's people who have variety problems....
We'll release discard warlock, buff pala, taunt warrior till you play it, YOU MUST PLAY IT!! UNDERSTOOD???

breach_deciphern posted a message on If the New Player Experience is a problem, give away Classic.Posted in: General Discussionthis is a daring proposition that I definitively like, a bit too generous and bold but an amusing idea for sure. I really wouldn't like that every player has access to Handlock and Freeze Mage just like that, but to give away a decent sized numbers of usable cards from Classic would benefit everyone and likely spice up the variety. I mean, people might actually be inclined to build Shadowform decks if they actually didn't have to spend 2x legendaries to craft those!
the bigger problem in this picture really is the sickening, poisoned, conditioned responses you are getting in this thread by people who are basically with their dark thinking and passivity allowing for Hearthstone to be the most expensive (reminds me quite a lot of asian ccg/tcg pricings, surpassing even MTG) and new user unfriendly experiences out there. let's look at some of the common comments going through this thread;
'I had to grind for it, others should not get it for free' --- the most basic knee-jerk reaction of, well, jerks. these people if they were drowning I guess would pull down the others with them, because 'if they have to, then others should too!' while some compensation should be given, this is a sort of mentality that needs to be cured.
'that is not how economy works' --- ah, the experts. however, lots of other games are doing just fine while being far more generous at incentive towards new and old players alike. look at the numbers; Hearthstone has surpassed even physical card games in terms of pricing, and they're looking to up the ante here. it's these sort of sheepish 'baaaah it's how the system works' passive comments that allow this corporate behavior. I mean for god's sakes, Hearthstone hasn't even implemented a daily reward system! even greedy asian ccg/tcgs do that.
'nothing is wrong with the new user experience' --- nonsense, even the old player experience is poor. you could think this is all fine if you haven't been exposed to other games which are far more welcoming and rewarding, that just makes you very short sighted and lacking compassion and understanding. there are epics and legendaries in classic that I've never even seen from a pack, and I've been playing since Naxx and have spent some cash into the game. that is completely mental. after these years in the game there's still decks I am yet to build because of the horrible dust/rarity ratio! a new player is also forced into playing archetypes that he can afford, his rewards and progress are fairly limited per day, all in the faint hopes that someday some months away he'll actually be able to build a deck of his liking.
I could go on forever, but I gotta stop somewhere. in short, I believe the problem is in the players, then in the company behind the game.

jainaishot posted a message on If the New Player Experience is a problem, give away Classic.Posted in: General DiscussionGiving classic for free is a bad idea,Not only it doesn't really solve the problem since new players are still at least 2 years behind but it pisses of old players too.The best solution should be what shadowverse and elderscrolls do.Give a lot of stuff for free at the beginning.Shadowverse offers about 40 packs when you start the game and 10 packs for every expansion.Tes gives you the cards from story mode and you get a lot of stuff whenever you level up(packs, gold and even legendaries!).This way a new player has enough enjoy and explore the game while he must invest time or money to keep up.
However this is blizzard that we are talking about, they are greedy as fuck and won't give shit. The sad thing is...that i don't blame them, they have this army of fanboys that are willing to be anally raped for them.Just in this forum, you will notice so many of them and they will defend anything blizzard does, and i mean ANYTHING.So why wouldn't they be stingy? They make profit not matter what.

Juxtapose90 posted a message on Hearthstone Price Changes Coming to Europe for PC, Mac, and AndroidPosted in: NewsPeople have to understand that Blizzard is a small company and they need to earn every bit of money they can. It is not like Hearthstone earned 400 million dollars last year, they have their employees to think about.
(I am being sarcastic , for imbeciles who do not understand sarcasm)

user-24085694 posted a message on Log-In Rewards and Thoughts?Posted in: General DiscussionQuote from ArgentumEmperio>>I have one thought on this subject highlighted by three points and a rant:
1. This is something that people have wanted for a long time, Blizzard increases the cost of the game if you wish to collect ALL cards. People proceed to whine about it.
Patentedly false, nobody wanted the game to be even more difficult at acquiring the cards. Hence the whine.
2. More cards is something that a majority of people have asked for since the release of the game thus' the first adventure and expansion was released. Now we get even more content. People proceed to whine about it.
Correct
3. The notion that a developer wants folks to pay them for their work is 110% accepted in EVERY BUISNESS ANYWHERE... but make it Blizzard and a game and... guess what? People proceed to whine about it.
Shortsighted ignorance. Business model != milking your customers.
You don't have to act like a vampire to make money off your game and fidelization and first-time player enjoyment is something competent developers know to be really important.
If you keep milking the cow without controlling yourself then it's eventually gonna die. This is a good change and one that wasn't needed. Blizzard made it anyway because its good for the game and buisness. But frankly, so many people whine (note: not 'complain', not 'critique', not 'offer feedback') about this entire thing that I think the most proper thing Blizzard could do is essentially make a ban on social media outlets that they don't control and censor folks.[/quote]
People complain because in true Team5's vibe it's "too little too late" compared to other ccg with similar business models.

The current state of the game along with the recent unpopular decisions Blizzard has made recently has eroded the trust and goodwill from a lot of players. As a result everything Blizzard does will be seen through this lens of dissatisfaction. Every disappointment will be more disappointing. If something isn't good then it's automatically terrible. At this point Blizzard needs to be on the ball and Ungoro needs to be EXCEPTIONAL for a lot of people to start giving Blizzard the benefit of the doubt again and chilling out.

The rewards aren't about helping the players, it's about stemming the flow of people leaving the game and doing damage control. If it were it wouldn't be a limited time.
And really, why would Blizzard bother when there are legions of fanboys who enjoy the wallet rape? Who would refuse free money gladly given? Blizzard might be pretty stupid about the game sometimes but that's just a silly game. They would never make a mistake like that about money.

Shadowverse needs to do it because they don't have the same type of fanboys eating up everything they shit out. Why would Blizzard need to take action to keep improve the game or make it competitive when they already have legions of fanboys defending anything they do? That wouldn't make any business sense.

You say you only play Control decks yet the only Control you play is Reno, the most cancerous of Control decks. Did you only start playing it when MSG came out too?

"It's not as bad as the next guy" isn't a justification for something being bad. Just saying.

What a bunch of lying hypocrites. They keep using "returning players" or "new players" as justification for their inaction on one hand but then they do something like remove adventures and classic cards. Those are the players that would get hit the hardest with those changes. The Whale has no problems since they'll just drop real money into the game until they get what they want and the hardcore player already has a strong foundation for each expansion with gold and dust saved up.
When a new player joined the game they bought classic packs and adventures to get "caught up". Returning players focus on the adventures as well since they at least have a foundation from Classic cards. Now instead of a strong Classic set to prop them up and adventures to get reliably strong cards they can...? Spend real money to get 60 packs just to get a bunch of filler cards and a shitty legendary that doesn't see play?
Wow, that's such a great 'Welcome'!

I want more than 4 deck types seeing any real representation (pirate aggro, jade, kaz/reno, dragon), 5 if you include Miracle Rogue. And within that you have Paladin, Hunter, and Druid to a lesser extent seeing little play. In addition, the current archetypes are so strong that most classes only have one viable deck. You face a Rogue? It's Miracle. Face a priest? It's Dragon. Face Warlock? It's Reno.
I find it ridiculous that I'm awaiting the new expansion not because I'm excited for new cards but because I want most of these decks to be rotated out.
