This is a game smaller in size and scope than any MMO.
The price of all the content in each full Standard rotation is already over 400$ -- 200$ per year.

Unlike actual collectible card games, you can't sell your collection, nor individual cards.
And by the gods -- the small sum of 400$ is a bargain compared to the amount of life you waste by grinding the cards out from 30 daily wins.

    Not overpowered -- just playable.

posted a message on When will people realize that there'll always be something to bitch about?
    Quote from Serpa_on_HStone >>

The problem isn't Brode, the designers, the cards, or the meta. The problem with the meta in standard being broken is that people are too lazy to develop their own decks and simply wait for others to come up with solutions to the meta. There are almost a 1054 playable cards in hearthstone. Just to give you a rough estimate of how many different deck possibilities there are for a 30 card deck, lets say we could only have 2 card decks. That still leaves 1,109,862 different combinations of decks people could make without using the same card. So needless to say the number is pretty damn large. If people stop net decking and start developing their own different ways to hearthstone the meta would naturally expand. I get that Pirate warrior is strong. I was playing it in wild last year from June to about December when I got tired of it as popularity increased due to Gadgetzan cards being release for it. Right here is my deck list i posted on Hearthpwn from way back in October I believe Wild Pirate Deck. I know a lot of other archetypes seem unbeatable as well. I guess what I'm saying is quit bitching and do something about it. If you are tired of the meta then sit down and try and make something original that will help change it. Bitching on here isn't helping. Bitching at your screen on your computer, iPad, phone isn't helping. Yelling at your dog cause you can't handle the top decked lightning storm isn't going to fix it either. I apologize if that sounds like tough love but its true. I used to be the same way. Then i sat down, started making decks from my head and didn't google or search bar them. I started realizing how much fun it is to pull off some cool ass combos against some unoriginal tool who doesn't know how to handle the cards i'm playing, or what to expect from my deck because he has no clue what i put in it. But at that point you as the developer have the advantage because I know EXACTLY what he/she is playing. This brought the fun back into the game for me. Yesterday and the day before I've been destroying pirate warrior. I've casted Dispatch Kodo's to the face of people for 16 damage because I thought about how to do it...

    Kodo to the face

I dunno. Bottom line is. Do something about it. Or come help support some of us that are. Here is a link for that deck above.... Screw a Wall. Build a Kodo. I'm trying to change the meta. Check out my decks for some insanely fun gameplay. I've been playing since release. Even if you don't, just do something about it. Bitching isn't a solution. Good luck. Remember. This is a game. You are playing it in your off time for fun. If it isn't fun anymore, then make it fun or quit playing it. Otherwise you are wasting your time and life.

Rank 16-20 is all about trying to change the meta with unique decks.
That's half the players in the game.

The people on rank 15 and better are playing meta-decks.

Hundreds of thousands of people are probably trying to find a way to counter the current aggro meta.
None of those have managed to do so, thus far.

    You can pick one:
Play the meta and win, until someone else -- one of the hundreds of thousands of people who try to change the meta -- succeeds, and change then.

...or lose until someone, probably someone else than you, discovers a good deck, that spreads like wildfire and becomes the new meta.
At which point you have to choose, again:
Be a part of the meta, or try decks at rank 16-20 in the 1 in 100 000 shot of being the one that changes the meta.
For a couple of hours, until your deck is copied by everyone you played against  and everyone they play against and so on and so forth, until you play a meta deck, after only a day or a couple of hours.

posted a message on When will people realize that there'll always be something to bitch about?
    Quote from scout1515 >>

At one point, people were saying "we hate huntard players," now people are complaining that the class isn't playable.

If pirates were gone, there would be complaints about whatever the top deck was and how cheap it is. If it's reno, people would bitch about getting cheaped out by a nut kazakus potion, if it's miracle rogue the complaints would be about the 12/12 stealthed cleef, and if it's jade druid the complaints would be about getting cheaped out by the endless 1 mana 10/10 golems.

I don't think this was a bad meta. A few months of pirates dominating, then it gets overnerfed, goes away for good, and something else takes over. Ofc, then people will complain about how STB and patches are totally unplayable even though that's what's being asked for now. Yeah, I agree it's a bit stale when 50% of decks above rank 5 are running the pirate package, but it's going away pretty soon.

It doesn't make sense for things like nerfs to happen right away. It takes time for the meta to evolve. Like right after gadgetzan, the meta was 30% pirate warrior. Then people realized aggro shaman was better and people started switching over to that.

Gamebreaking problems <----- Bitching grounds -----> Pet peevees.

There will always be pet pevees in games.
Grounds for bitching do not have to exist, and should be filtered out.
Gamebreaking problems should be fixed as soon as possible.

There's only months since the main page had forum posts many many times per hour.
Now forum posts often are an hour apart, or even hours apart.
I'm kind of scared about the immediate future.

why it would be ok to lock turn 1 or 2 with doomsayer?

     This is the real question.
If there was no way doomsayer could be answered, we'd be having the opposite conversation - OMG DOOMSAYER TOO GUD!
     No.

People would say: Don't vomit out your hand into Doomsayer:
Wait until turn 3 -- when you can answer it, or run silence.

"Silence? Crazed Alchemist? BLASPHEMY! Silence doesn't damage face, and Crazed Alchemist is only  a 2/2 for 2, when Aggro wants at least 4 damage for 2 mana..!"

Aggro should have to tech against control. If they want to beat control.

I want Ancient of Lore, Keeper of the Grove, Leper Gnome, Arcane Golem, Abusive Sergeant to return to their original state.

I want Aggro to return to their classic state, to the textbook TCG definition of aggro. Low-cost, low-health, high-attack minions. Fast and explosive, but easy to counter. No Trogg, Totem Golem and 4 mana 7/7 type of aggro. I want Leper Gnomes, Abusives, Bluegill Warriors like the old days.

Ancient of Lore and Keeper of the Grove nerfs felt like a punch to the face.

Compare Keeper of the Grove to 4 mana class cards from other classes.
Water Elemental: +1 attack +2 health, freezes targets
    Kor'kron Elite: +2 attack -1 health, charge
Flamewreathed Faceless: +5 attack +3 health
    Houndmaster: +2 attack -1 health: Give a Beast +2/+2

It was only powerful compared to neutral 4-cost minions, and unplayable minions that cost 4 mana.
It was a good anti-aggro tool, as it could punish players who played lots of low cost minions, dealing with at least two minions.

    Ancient of Lore:
    7 mana.

Bloody compare to Archmage Antonidas who generates a fireball from a coin, and another Fireball from Counterspell, and another one from the Fireball next turn, and another one from the second Fireball.
Ancient of Lore was underpowered compared to many 7-cost class cards, and to Dr. Boom. Savannah Highmane at 6 mana is also compable:
Summons two 2/2s on death, which has to be comparable to drawing two cards, as it puts two bodies on the board.

    I mean:
Would a 3 mana card that produces two 2/2s be balanced..? Yes.
Ergo: Summoning two 2/2s is comparable to drawing two cards, perhaps just barely below.

I don't even want them moved to wild:
    Just restored.
What is the point of a core set, if the cards aren't playable and don't define the class' identity?

    Solution:
    Look at the good old Malygos Druid;
Ancient of Lore, Azure Drake, Nourish, Innervate, Malygos, Swipe, Wrath, Moonfire, Keeper of the Grove.
    But WHY?
Not because any of them really are overpowered. Except Malygos could've been 3 or 4 spell power. I digress.
Because nothing has been offered to Druid to use with Malygos.
    Literally:
Only one single spell that deals damage has been added to Druid since forever.
Jungle Moonkin giving +2 Spell Damage to your opponent made it unplayable, and was just silly.

Where is the 3 mana damage-dealing boardclear..? Where is the 6 mana version of Swipe; 6 damage to one minion, and 2 to the rest?

Druid having no direct removal, but having access to silence, was also a saving grace.
    Jade Idol is just cancerous.
It has to be nerfed at some point:
It should shuffle Jade Idols into your deck, not copies of itself.

As a wild player, I say nerf the cards.

Not nerfing the cards will inevitably make Wild unplayable.
It may take a couple of years, but -- it's inevitable.
Cards will have to be nerfed in wild.
So it's better to nerf cards in Standard to clean up the worst messes before they hit Wild.

     How would Wild be unplayable?

A new super powerful card would have other decks keep it in check; no matter how powerful a Control deck is OTK will always kill it. You'd see an upward spiral of power, to be fair, and eventually only one or two cards in each set will be powerful enough to handle Wild play.
However, the good thing about this is that eventually there will be decks people *know* they can play and a very concise metagame will emerge. like in M:tG, you have the holy trinity of Jund, Tron, and Burn, with other top 10 decks like Delver, Fish or Affinity, Storm, and then T2 decks like Living End (my personal favorite deck ever), CoCo and Blitzkrieg.

Once the cardpool gets to be big enough, we'll have a high powered Wild that makes Standard players balk at the power level, but it'll still be fun and balanced within itself.
Except Hearthstone's standard is about as big as a Magic Block-Format right now -- while Wild is about as big as Magic Standard.

Both Block and Standard in Magic have ban-lists.

In 10 years, Wild may reach the comparative size of early Modern.
Where there is a ban list, which used to be massive -- before they pulled the plug on official support of the format.

    ...

As a Wild player, I want the format to be balanced and supported:
I want to see Wild tournaments.

I'm also damn sure that if Wizards could CHANGE cards reactively, magically converting each card in existence to the new version, they'd do so instead of banning cards.
    Without refunds.

posted a message on I think reno rotating will reduce the effectiveness of extreme aggro and slow down the meta
    Quote from Shaggy0420 >>

Wow I like how aggressive or high win rate decks are cancer. I think the cancer is in these people's heads. Play control warrior midrange dragon priest or the jade decks those beat out pirates. Or you can keep on whining until they rotate out. Now I agree standard needs some better control tools for the early game, Which imo is better then a nerf (rotating cards is another posssibilty). Blizzard tends to nerf when something gets released instead I think the should

    1. Add new cards that help control to survive pirates

    2. If that doesn't work then rotate cards to wild

    3. If the first two options don't work then nerf the card

I been playing since gvg and the worst an unhealthiest thing I've seen is overuse of nerfing. I think what I proposed is fair adding new cards to balance keeps the old cards playable  and I may start even buying packs again instead of being f2p. I want my collection of cards to be more respected by blizzard the whole point of standard is to reduce the amount of nerfs needed although I do think conceal needs to be nerfed. It should conceal your hero seeing a rogue would conceal themselves to escape concealing all your minions makes the game  non-interactive and seeing this isn't magic the gathering and I can't play cards on your turn means I can't respond to your threats. You need a chance to be able to respond to people's board state. Maybe smaller and more frequent sets was also suggested change the meta more often

And what about wild, when overpowered cards cause turn 3 wins..?

Like it or not -- overpowered cards have to be nerfed, if Wild is to remain playable and fun.
    Wild is problematic already.

Like they say, if you can't beat em, join em

If everyone joined them -- everyone would have a 50% win rate, plus minus lucky streaks.

And that's why the balance statistics are bollocks:
The more players play an OP deck, the closer to 50% that decks' winrate will become.
