posted a message on When was the turning point?

I don't think about this in terms of turning points. What people tend to ignore is their own game fatigue and chasing that feeling they had in the past when they had great success with a fun deck they enjoyed and the game felt fresh (because it was to them). And change is the name of this game and so it's not reasonable to expect every mechanic or deckbuilding direction, new or old, to appeal to everyone. And, the game is not new anymore, you played it for years and that also affects your judgment.

When I find the game most enjoyable is with decks that have a chance to win against most/all decks in the meta. 40/60 matchup split is terrible but I take that over 20/80 and then reversed when playing against another class. Rock, paper, scissor is what I resent; I queue up against Kazakus Druid now and I know that I will lose with very little scope to make a dent (with decks I enjoy playing). But then I steamroll through other matchups. The closest to balanced now is Burn Shaman, followed by Quest Rogue for me and those are the two decks I still enjoy somewhat. I'd love to play more Quest Hunter but the extreme polarisation of that deck makes it unbearable to me. With this game, it is always a balancing issue.

Somebody will figure out a way to break this. As it stands, I am in two minds: it benefits decks with mixed composition of minions and spells, Burn Shaman fits that bill well - just not sure if well enough. Adding the piranhas just for this seems like a waste, piranhas on their own might be good but I am not convinced, I'd rather play this on cheap Spell Damage+ minions or the freezing stags, which have a tendency to stick on board. Or, ideally, both. It could work.

Ah yes, hadn't thought of that - coin + this on 1 is nuts.

So, if this also has this implicit 'silence' effect built in then it makes the card a lot better.

posted a message on New Mage Legendary Card Revealed - Gaia, the Techtonic

For Mage, I am more interested in the Nagas that it will get, not another 8-cost card. What Mage is starved of is enough, good low curve minions that are worth playing for the big spell archetype to work.

Edit: having said that, the animation is dope!

What I am wondering is if devouring triggers Deathrattles and if not, does Gigafin Maw's demise do it?

posted a message on Quest Hunter versus Quest Shaman

Burn Shaman suffers, too. There's little scope to heal in those decks and so Hunter can burn you down relentlessly from hand and HP. And giving them minions only advances their game plan towards your demise and both Shaman decks give plenty. And so try and play as few minions as you can in the early game and start dropping them post 4-5 mana, they you have a chance. Maybe.

    Quote from jakobus >>

How often do you have to play to get to legend? I usually play my daily quests and then 3  or 4 more  games a day and probably end up with a 50% win rate. Sometimes I get on a run and maybe reach platinum ( happened once) . Seems to me that once you reach legend by playing a lot of games, do you have to keep playing at that rate to keep your legend status? I just don’t have the time to play that much.

This will depend on how big your star bonus is. It is worth it to get to 10x as it makes the grind back to D5 that much faster. Past that point you get no bonus stars and this is where the grind is. Just doing quests is enough for D5, maybe with a few extra games, but for Legend you almost always have to grind, unless you get a lucky streak. So, you never get to keep your legend status, always have to fight back for it but it's easier with the star bonus. 11x stars are best as it lets you progress through D5 quickly but you need to end the month at around 2k legend (on EU) and high MMR to get it. That is not easy, you need to play a lot, win a lot and play an optimised deck.

Anything less than D5, I would grind through each month to reach 1 level higher compared to the previous month so that next month there is 1 more star bonus and get to D5 that way over time. Once there, it's easier to maintain it. I reach legend every month only if there is an optimised deck I actually enjoy playing. In the spirit of the thread, I am not sure I will get there this month as the Druid-Kaz meta is not one I enjoy at all and I dislike playing pure aggro just to counter it.

posted a message on I never saw an expansion so weak

It's the last expansion of the 2-year cycle so you still have all the cards that came before and so it's harder for this particular one to make an impact. This is coupled with the Core set having been designed to work with the current expansions and this again rotates early next year. This is why old decks with small modifications are still the strongest but it is their last hurrah and then we will have a major shake up. Having said that, core mechanics haven't really changed that much over the years, at its core it is still the same game and that will probably not change anytime soon.
