Can't wait for you to get countered. The best strategy against ropers is roping them yourself.

posted a message on Can't Break Rank 18

Playing ranked is always better since it gives you gold. Unless you really want to do a quest fast I'd stay away from casual (and even then it's not that faster doing quests in casual). It's also good practice and some meta recon.

Refinement is a never ending process. I wouldn't say ''refine deck after x games''. Refine as it goes, adapting to what you see and with deeper understanding of your deck. It took me 30 games to find that my second copy of acolyte of pain was too much in my exodia mage but only a couple to know the second cabalist tome was too much.

Efficiency wise I'd advise using an aggro deck for climbing. Quantity is unfortunately better than quality for reaching rank 5. Quest rogue, beast hunter, tempo mage, murloc shaman, zoo, pirate, etc. Pick the one you're the most comfortable with!

posted a message on Can't Break Rank 18

I climbed to rank 5 from rank 13 in one day with elemental tempo mage. I just climbed to rank 4 with Exodia... Thing is, I'm a mage main and I have numerous hours of tempo and freeze mage experience under my belt. Maybe not having a particular style is what's keeping you from mastering something, you're staying a jack of all trades...

That's the thing with a new expansion, no list is refined to the point of it being a 55% win rate that will let you climb with a little time investment. You need to build something not only good, but that you're good with. Once the meta settles and tier 1 decks will be figured out I'm pretty sure you'll be able to break ranks with a tier 1 deck, but for now you have to find a deck that you're not making many mistakes with. A decent deck that you master is usually better than a god deck you make little mistakes with.

    Hope this sheds some light!

posted a message on Sherazin, Corpse Flower + Potion of Polymorph interaction bug?

I've encountered what I think is a small bug while playing secret mage against a dormant Sherazin, Corpse Flower.

I had Potion of Polymorph in play. Opponent played Gadgetzan Auctioneer which triggered the dormant Sherazin, Seed once, then the Sheep from Potion of polymorph triggered it too (Sherazin ending up with two ticks with only one card).

Sherazin text : Play 4 cards in a turn to revive this minion.

Now this boils down to the ''play vs summon'' ruling. In my head and from what I've read, ''playing'' a minion implies it comes from your hand. That would mean the coding from potion of polymorph's sheep would be ''play'', which makes no sense.

I would understand Dirty Rat triggering Sherazin or quests since at least it's pulling a minion from the hand, but potion of polymorph really? Am I overlooking something?

posted a message on Which quest mage is the best quest mage? (Post your decks)

Isn't it brilliant how the new mage quest is pulling us in many different and interesting deckbuilding possibilities? This thread is to get a serious breakdown as to what's possible with it and maybe boldly try and predict which one is best.

Exodia mage (2x molten reflection, Antonidas, 2x sorcerer's apprentice, TimeWarp) :
Weakness : The combo pieces are in the super grand majority of games unplayable on their own. Freeze Mage could use it's combo pieces for removal, this one cannot.
Strength : Inevitability, once the combo is assembled it's gg. AOE.
Ways to build it : Option 1 is acolyte, loot hoarder, novice engineer package. Option 2 is Auctioneer, arcane missiles, mirror image, freezing potion.

    Giant OTK (Giants + Timewarp)
Weakness : Depending on the build, hand can get pretty expensive. Taunts (ahem* taunt warrior).
Strength : Unlike exodia, giant OTK can play it's combo pieces to secure the board or apply pressure. The combo can also be used in an non lethal way if needed.
Ways to build it : Cycle heavy (either acolyte/hoarder or auctioneer/spell). Including molten giants alongside the arcane giants. Including Alextraza or not. Including molten reflection or not.

Timewarp Tempo (tempo mage shell with quest)
Weakness : Loses OTK potential. Lack of a 3-drop unless Acolyte. No or few AOE.
Strength: Can have a tempo mage snowball effect. Proactivity.
Ways to build it : Elemental or not. With few or a bit more cycles. With or without AOE.

This is definitely incomplete. I will update the thread continually with information posted in the comments!

posted a message on What I think is the best mage in Ungoro

Hey all! I'm pretty much on the same TimeWarp hype train as everyone around here. I'm a pretty competitive hearthstone player and I like theorycrafting with a meta call in mind. I've seen many go on all in Arcane Giant OTK's. While I think the decks are cool and actually good, I think people understimate the impact taunt warrior will have on the meta. As for Exodia mage well... I'ts a neat memy 5 card combo. It's awesome, but it's not competitive.

I think the best approach to mage for Ungoro is the good old tempo mage. Someting like this :

    TimeWarp Tempo Mage
Export to BBCode Export to Cockatrice Export to MarkDown Export to Html Clone this deck
    Minion (13) Ability (17)
    Loading Collection

Please tell me what you think! The description also explains many things about the deck!

    All aboard the hype train!

posted a message on Mage got gutted in the new expansion.

    My take on it.

Exodia mage is a memy 5 card combo. Not good, but funny.

Dedicated Arcane Giant OTK's are, in a vaccum, good decks but they forget that Fire Plume's Heart and Sulfuras were printed.

If you want to play elemental play Shaman, they got way better tools for it. WAY better.

Now on to what I think will be a good mage deck contender : Tempo Mage. Simple, effective, good ol', tempo mage. As always it will have the possibility of opening very aggressive with Mana Wyrm, Sorcerer's Apprentice, Primordial Glyph and removal/burn, but also the possibility of going late game with Cabalist's Tome, Archmage Antonidas, the Quest and Arcane Giant.

Played MTG for 2 years. Been playing ONLY mage for 2 years in HS.

posted a message on How to defeat Jade Druid with Reno Mage?

At the beginning of the expansion when reno mage was still on the drawing board I used to play Inkmaster Solia which would give me anedge against jade druid. You need to get a 10 mana kazakus potion and combo it with Solia. Other tech decisions would be Ragnaros, or a N'zoth package, but my favorite and the one I think is best would be Medivh the Guardian. Pretty simple concept, the problem Reno mage has against jade druid is the inability to remove and build a board at the same time.

So yeah... boils down to having some sort of mid/late-game tempo swing.

posted a message on Why is Blizzard so shy about balancing?

I would change the title to Hearthstone instead of blizzard. Have you palyed HOTS? Man do these guys do amazing work on this game. Balance changes every months, if a new champ is too strong it's nerfed within two weeks. New hero every month or so, special events, brawl, visuals worked on too.

It would be kinda wrong for a card game to be balance patched every month, but goddamnit spirit claws took 6 months, 6 fricken months!

Forget daring reporter. It does not help against aggro which is mill rogue's bad matchup and does not improve its game against control since they are floating on removal.

posted a message on How to Improve at Hearthstone? (Help!)

Jade druid, unlike what many people may think, is not an easy deck to play optimally because of gadgetzan auctioneer. Holding innervates and other spells have subtle nuances that can be hard to grasp for new players. Here are some general tips though

    1. Never shuffle your first jade idol, and the next jade idol should be kept and shuffled with Auctioneer (the grand majority of the times).
    2. Wrath should be used on cycle mode (1 damage, draw 1) 80% of the time. You need to be under serious pressure to use it as deal 3 damage or really want to be pushing for board control/tempo.
    3. Innervates are a hard decision to play in this deck, you need to consider if your tempo play is better than waiting for auctioneer. Against control decks that don't put pressure on you drawing is usually better than tempo play since you have inevitability on them. Against aggro decks you usually won't hold as much your innervates.
    4. Nourish is used as draw 3 95% of the time. The 5% of time you don't do that is if you plan a certain play for the next turns. With the nature of Jade Druid, believe me that's rare. (consider jade druid a combo deck).
    5. It's almost always right to play wild growth on turn 2 rather than play a removal spell. Later in the game (turn 5-6-7), analyse if playing wild growth allows you to make a play more powerful than drawing a card with it or 3 cards with auctioneer at 10 mana. More often than not it won't.

Watch streams every night before going to bed and during breakfast and try and find a streamer playing your deck (twitch), look up youtube videos of jade druid (youtube), understand your matchups (viscious syndicate) and learn how to build your deck to target certain decks.

    Good luck :)
