For me, this is the hardest matchup. However, I've found it less oppressive after I replaced one Counterfeit Coin with Edwin. The only way I've gotten wins against face warrior is getting a big Edwin early -ideally backstab, coin, into a 6/6 on turn 2. Also good is a prep, fan on turn 3.
I'm 6 for 6 against dragon priest this season. Here is the trick:
1.) Drop Thaurissan early -before you have lethal but when you have Maly in hand. (Hopefully you also have fan of knives.)
2.) If your opponent didn't burn entomb on the Auctioneer, they may use it here. Or they Death your Thaurissan. They will then think you have lethal and flood the board.
3.) Use Maly with Fan, either because both were reduced or with Prep / a Coin. ALL of their minions have 6 health. This is a board clear. Do this even if you don't have lethal, it's EXTREMELY unlikely they have an entomb to take care of your Malygos. Just let him sit a turn.
4.) Next turn you burn spells for the win. Don't worry that you didn't OTK. There is really nothing they can do about Maly, given his 4-attack, and the fact that you cleared their board.
Yeah, I think this is actually the way it's supposed to work. The card says "summon" not "play". The latter means from your hand, the former refers to getting a minion on your board for whatever reason whatsoever.
However, I agree with the general complaint. Blizzard's mechanics here make sense to me, but their choice of words is rather poor: "summon" and "play" are both extremely vague. The only reason we know what they mean is because we've been burned in situations like this one before.
I agree. And I also replaced one coin with Edwin for precisely this matchup.
I also think Barnes is key. If you can coin Barnes out on turn 3 to key a copy of one Mistress or a Pillager or an early Gadgetzan can really change the tempo.
I see. So, you really don't need card draw is what you're saying. I could see that.
My question was because often in face decks, getting that Finley late game to try for a different hero power can be just enough to get you over the hump. However, I can see your points.
I made two versions -one with tokens and the other with a Malygos alternate win condition. Based on only one day of play, the Malygos version was MUCH stronger. (I went 13-4 with it.)
Caveats: Of course, this was early in the season, and at pretty low ranks.
Interesting, Take a look at mine too. I'll have to take a few cues from yours... I definitely need to figure out how to jamb the weapon removal and feral rage in there for vs warrior.
Yeah, I'm not positive mine is perfect by any means, but it seems to do ok. The ooze was a last minute addition once I realized that face warriors and secret hunters were everywhere. Add in the still dominant Shaman and weapons are more powerful than ever.
How is Mistress of Mixtures working out for you? I was thinking of putting one in if I could fit it.

I agree it's worth crafting; however, the go-to replacement for Thalnos is Shiv.
Most often (not always) the main use of Thalnos is to give you one extra damage on a spell and a card draw. Shiv gives you both of those. Of course, it's missing Thalnos' upside of giving you more than one extra damage and a body. Still, it's a decent replacement if you're not ready to craft.
I say yes, totally worth it. So many combo decks just completely depend on him. If you ever want to play any OTK deck of any kind, he's pretty much necessary.

Trust me, this works.

And you may want him in Wild someday too.

This is a great post!
PS - Always concede to a friend you're getting into the game. Good for the relationship, and it gives them more xp!
