You don't have too, you can stare one the selection screen if you want. But if you want to play the game you might have to make a choise or hope they sometime in the future remove the free heros. You could take a break until next hearthstone year and see if anything is different :).
Yeah I think so too it is worth opening classic packs until you have a full set of classic epic cards. After that its worth banking classic packs if you want to open the legendary replacement early and don't need the dust. I'm missing 13 epics and give 1 epic every 5 packs thats 65. I already have 23 so I need on average 42 classic packs to get all epics, I should have a full set at the begining of next year, unless we are offered more than the classic packs we get form tavern brawls, then it's even faster :).
Problem would be if there would be a rule change again but that we can't predict. Before the no dupplet rule is was correct to store your packs and open them after unless you already had the full classic set.
Right now I have all the classig legendary but missing some epics and are banking up classic packs(23) for if/when Blizzards in the future adds new cards to the classic set. I have open enough classic packs to get all the rare using the new no duplets rule. This means the rare I get at the end of the season wont be classic ones unless I jave all the other standard rares.
I'm considering opening all packs to get as many classic epics as possible to make the end of season reward as likely as possible to not be a calssic card. I Whould you open them and then bank on the new rule to open newly added cards to classic later? After all it's easy to get all the commons and rare now harder to get all the epics. On other hand I don't really need the dupplets legendaries and if a replacement card is a legendary it's still requiers stored up classic packs to open. Note I don't need the dust from the classic packs but I don't want to craft the missing epics as I don't need them in any decks and it wouid lower the value of the classic packs I have to just give dust or possbile gold cards.

Rush version of Doomguard.

It not just an upside, it could also give less, in particular if you face a Priest or paladin.

Would you open the packs or not?
