I don't even see how the new system should be so good for new players? First of all, new players don't play so many arena, since it is mostly inefficient for them. So in the first month they usually buy packs instead of arena. And then they get a classic pack just in 33 % of all cases. And since they get packs from all sets they don't even have so many synergies as they would had, if they would get packs from the same set. Letting the players choose is the only way.

After spending $100 on classic, I decided when GVG comes out I will learn how to become an infinite arena player so I won't have to buy any more packs. But after becoming infinite I felt bad because I love this game and I’m not contributing any money to development so I bought all 3 hero skins.

Making the packs random is a dick move, but I also find it irritating when consumers want so much and contribute no money to development.

I think that Blizzard should test this random pack system out and see if people buy more packs. If people leave arena then they should make more customizable items that consumers can purchase like in MOBA’s to make up for development costs.

And the system doesn’t hurt all veteran players. This change has very little effect on infinite arena players like myself.

Let’s say I play 21 arenas per month, which is about right. So 7 Classic packs, 7 GVG packs, and 7 TGT packs as arena rewards. Plus 4 classic packs from brawl. Plus 1500 gold from 30 daily quests which I will spend on 15 TGT packs.

A minimum of 40 packs per month earned for free (7 GVG, 11 Classic, and 22 TGT).  45% of my packs will be a huge amount of dust, but that is what infinite players want anyways.

Not everyone is in that good spot to be so good in Arena that you get the money pack. I play around 30 arena runs a month and maybe spend 500 gold for packs. For me it is a hugh difference if i get 20 TGT packs or 10 Classic and 10 GvG. The expected value of classic and GvG is <150 dust, while TGT starts with an expected value of 400.

-IAP of Arena entries decreasing due to less motivation to play it among the majority of players

If your hypothesis turned out to be true that the number of players will decrease due to the lack of relevant packs, then Arena should be stagnant already. GvG was such a small set that players completed most of it in a month or two. We were stuck with GvG for months and months. At this point, even many Arena veterans could benefit from Classic packs over GvG. Given that I'm skeptical of this case, I would argue that players simply play Arena for fun despite them already getting tons of duplicates to begin with.

Furthermore, I'd like to point sticking with one pack isn't inherently better or worse in terms of duplicates except for like the first one or two months when the set is newly released. Again, players will start being deluged with duplicates if Arena awarded only one set and, in the long term, awarding random packs is better for completing the collection.

The ones that finished GvG after 1-2 month are exceptional players. Normally it takes much longer. And for completing the collection. Just given packs from one set might be bad, but random packs are worse. You get  more packs with a low value. And it becomes really inefficient to complete a set by crafting the missing cards, since you can't avoid getting those packs again.

As someone who is F2P  and mostly an Arena player I disagree entirely.

About a month or two post GvG the Arena pack rewards were pretty much just dust anyway.   All packs are just dust fodder, eventually.   I think its better value to pay 100 gold straight up for a pack of newer cards, most of which may be new to my collection.  But there are still many Legendaries and a few epics I still need from the previous sets, they are generally low play value but the completionist in me still wants them.   Due to the low pull rates I don't want to have to buy those old packs because that is a true waste of gold.  I certainly don't want to have to craft them as that dust is better saved for high-value meta-altering cards from the newest set to stay competitive.

After opening 30-50 packs you should have most of the new set minus the Epics and Legendaries.  If the drop rate is evenly split and you play 3-5 runs a day you can get there in a few months.   Otherwise buy 10-20 packs to get there quicker... that much gold isn't that tough to grind and just craft the must-have cards if they don't drop in your packs.  Arena is for completing the collection so I think random or player selected card pack rewards is best.

Because GvG was the only pack reward since December I am only missing a couple Legendaries from that set so the past 4-5 months have been Arena reward garbage, nothing but dust.  At least now there is a chance I can get something I don't already have.

But aren't you annoyed that even though there is a new expansion you get old packs in 67% of all the cases? And especially since you want to complete your collection. The most efficient way is to get the packs with the highest value and this will be the TGT packs for a long time. Furthermore, whenever you complete a set you will still get packs from that set. On the one hand i like to complete a set, on the other hand i don't want to craft everything just to get them later again. If you wait until you get all cards from the set through packs you can wait a pretty long time.
When you say 3-5 runs a day then i must assume, that you are an infinite player who actually gains gold with arena. In that case you get enough gold to buy packs and you win a lot of packs. So for you it might not be a hugh problem. But the big majority is not performing so well in Arena and/ or don't have the time to play that much. For those who can just afford one run a day, it is just frustrating to get an old pack, if they have most of the cards of that set.

Even though a new expansion was announced, I am super disappointed from the announcement. The random card pack as an arena reward is a really bad news for me. I am a decent arena player with a 5.5 win average, but it is not enough to gain gold. It is just a gold reduction on the pack I get. And for the majority it is the same since 7+ is an exception. But now I have just a 33% chance to get a new pack. The other ones are not so interesting for me, since I have already a good collection. So in most of the cases I will just get dust out of arena and not any new cards. And for many players it will be the same. So for me it makes almost no sense to play arena anymore. Another point is that completing a set by crafting becomes dust inefficient and the arena is even more about making dust. But I don't want to grind for dust the whole time in arena, if there are new cards.

For me even the old system, just new packs, would make more sense. I understand that this is not so good for new players, but giving them random packs, so they have even more mixed cards without synergies is also not the best. The best is simply to let players choose what they want. It helps new players and players with a decent collection. It is also just consequent, since you can choose the pack as well if you buy it with gold. So there is actually no argument on the players sight to not let you choose. So in the end from blizzards side it is just about making players purchase new packs. I read the argument that they need to make money as well. Yes, that's true. But I think they earn a lot of money, also from me, and thiso is just a earn more feature. I don't mind spending money, but it must stay fair and random packs just serve the purpose of blizzard while it is bad for us players.

IMHO it's great news. Now we'll have a 33% chance to get a pack with new cards in arena. Its almost 50%! And even if You loose the coinflip, You can still dust the old cards and craft a shiny new one! It's a Win-Win situation if You ask me.

    33 % is NOT almost 50 %.

posted a message on is this win rate good ?

With the winrate you should hit legend. I also think you were a little unlucky with the winstrikes otherwise you would have climbed higher. Problem is to maintain the winrate. A high winrate on lower ranks is not a garantee to have a sufficient winrate on ranks 1-5. Some seasons i climbed from 15 to 7 with an win rate around 80% and still got stuck at rank 4 or 5. So you should climb more and see how you perform on higher ranks. Only then you can see if you can make it to legend.
