Rogue is by design a very flexible class which i believe is a major reason it’s always in the meta mix. It’s not the easiest nor the most polarizing class but it’s ability to be a jack of all trades master of none that make it shine
Why belittle decks people post like the comments some have made? No deck builder has to ever post anything and this deck he put effort into a pretty decent guide and his thought process. Why troll decks built and posted when that’s kinda one of the main goals of this site? Regardless if he changed one card or you think this archetype is a cancerous deck? I hate them on ladder (not as much as DR rogues) because they’re tough as well as Galakrond warrior but rather than insult for effort I’ll give it a +1 because I think the card he teched in could provide some nice tempo
Yea I tried running it with deathrattle package and tunnel blaster thinking I could Necrium Apothecary Mecha’Thun and Tunnel Blaster into my hand and drop Anka followed by playing the game until Myra’s was in hand. Running out of cards and dropping the 1/1 Thun and 1/1 Tunnel Blaster and backstabbing the blaster (it’d take out little lackey minions and such) but never could get deathrattle package with Necriums to do the job fast enough for it to be worth it either
I actually considered making this thread myself. I understand the counter arguments but let me present a few arguments to support the OP.
While quest priest definitely isn’t dominant I do find that it is too polarizing. I play galakrond warrior which may be the best deck in the game atm and it does really well into e.g face hunter. But face hunter definitely has a chance cause you don’t generate that much armor unless you get rover/armorsmith early. But face hunter against priest? They play quest and the game is just over. Khartut defenders, waterbearers and zilliax means there is 0 chance.
next point is the minions they use. They are strong which is good and they should be to be in meta. Problem is they play them over and over with reborn and powerful deathrattles. Just look at the arguments for priest here “damage them only when you can burst them down in a flash” well that is because their deathrattles over time in a regular game ARE too dominant Not all decks have burst potential. Tempo and aggro of course doesn’t have to be favored but now they just auto loose without a burst combo (like I have in Galakrond Warrior). The game should not be full rock paper scissors but more like pokemontypes. Being unfavored should not mean chanceless. A skilled player should have a chance to win against a counter deck.
My last argument is that the deck does too many punishing things. You try to build board to get potential damage, then they control you with penance, shadow word into mass hysteria. Especially hysteria needs a mana nerf it leaves too little counterplay at 5 mana for aggro Then they have infiltrators to stop you fron overwhelming them on board and it even trades well. Waterbearer guarantees quest completion.
My last argument is that it creates unfun and skilless games. I dislike that this deck has inaction as a strategy. This is downright toxic to me. A control seck normally wins late but not through inaction but by using removal tools, taunts and so on, they don’t just let you do whatever for 5 turns.
But prist don’t have any incentive to do anything early and won’t dilute their revival pool by actual early game minions.
So in summary. Look beyond overall winrate and see this: too dominant into aggro and tempo, winning through inaction which derives all fun from the opponent, which I personally belive should be way higher in design considerations in all games.
I suggest nerfing hysteria and somehow force priest into actually playing the game throughout the match and not just after turn 5.
Edit: A lot of this is also applicable to Necrium Apothecary. No consistent counterplay cause they can trigger instantly with weapon, does not give even skilled players any chances to win with a slew of decktypes if they get the right cards and this lack of control over the game makes it unfun to the opponent. Deathrattle rogue games are basically decided by what cards the rogue gets early on and the opponent just have to hope they don’t highroll too much and that they have some answers.
I would also include holy wrath paladin and quest druid into this. Winning by not playing the game and even having zephrys in non-highlander decks = toxic to me.
Have you played HW Paladin or quest druid at all? I understand your points until you get to your last part. You are horribly wrong in thinking hw pally sits on his arse and wins. As far as quest Druid, which is my favorite deck, it’s biggest issue since it’s induction is that to complete the quest in a reasonable time you are very likely to not be allowed any comeback. Just because someone’s End Game like Nomi or Mecha’Thun or Quest Druid or HW Pally wins when they reach it doesn’t mean they don’t have one hell of a time getting there. Play quest Druid in this meta. Play hw pally anytime. Mecha’Thun warlock. Nomi Priest. Depleting your cards while not fatiguing or dying to Aggro is imo possibly the hardest type deck to play. I mean end game decks to clarify like Elise duplicating maly or Mecha’Thun decks or Nomi or Shirvallah type game play
Yea with the fast drawing meta now it doesn’t take much to cause overdraw. I hate when mages have the spell for both to draw 2 lol
i just think these are neat oddball cards and had fun using some during the doom in the tomb Nzoth spams so figured I would see if anyone had ever made a deck that was somewhat viable using the opponent hates me type cards
Yea I doubt Rez Priest will be nerfed. Like someone I saw on here saying HW Paladin needed nerfed in another post. These archetypes have existed and have saw play only in favorable meta’s such as the one we have now
I do have a question as well. I just can’t seem to make earthen might work in any of my versions. I run Spirit over mana totem now but either way to me my hand fills so fast already I’m afraid to burn cards if I use earthen might on elementals, especially multiple ones with zentimo so I run 2 heals and one earthen. How do you mitigate this?
I run a similar set up and it hurts sometimes but I don’t run either but instead run an extra hex to hex whatever big dr buffed things they manage to get off but he serves same purpose with some extra draw but also is more mana intensive which may be detrimental if your looking to drop Electra & dragons pack or Zentimo and hex or even shield of Galakrond but just my thought on it
Also if I’m against a rogue or hunter or warrior I kinda pocket one of the Invocation of Frosts or maybe even both and freeze the other player so they can’t attack until I’ve stabilized my board some
If your looking for advice to use then maybe tech in or use a deck with plentiful silences and personally if I can I eat the dead minion caused by killing infiltrator and use my silences for defenders and the 5/5 heal minion. Then if possible and they get it out Katrina is very silence worthy.
Like with a shaman using hex or Druid in wild that changes minions to treants or the taunts and cards like Leeroy that give them 1/1’s you can give them as many as possible and kill them first to mess the Rez pool up
Just for fun what deck do you think you could make semi viable (Better than a lucky meme deck but not Top Tier) that abuses your opponent in this meta. For example Hecklebot ruins a combo, could Thief rogue or priest do the same with the card that swaps the top card of each players deck? Since Galakrond warlock plus Valdris can draw so fast and almost hold half the deck in hand could Void Contract (My favorite nightmare card) completely devastate an opponent? Especially if you have Augmented and Twist in hand to refill your deck? What about both players drawing a card and cost switching in a Big Paladin deck? Ruining a dragon decks battlecry with both players drawing one straight to the board?
Sorry I’m unfamiliar with the names of the cards that do these mechanics as most are new and I’m not sure anyone has tinkered with them much to see how bad arse someone could make a true cancerous deck that’s actually playable. Maybe Tinkermaster vs shamans 8/8’s or Cho if you run minion heavy embiggen decks to try and snag some spells.
I just think it would be neat and fun to see these obviously hateful but so close to amazing deck shutdown decks built as best as possible and what or who’s or if anyone can find a true deck that makes its gameplay the punishing of the other decks.
Just for the sake of argument perhaps (Druid is my preferred class and it’s a rough world even with Treants Deck if you don’t draw the two card draws your dead in the water almost) I remember when everyone said shaman was overpowering and it’s wr was 60+. Now it’s a tier 2 deck with an average under 55 wr or was last I looked. When they nerfed shaman everyone seemed to think it making them slower would make it manageable and with the huge wr drop (Less wr than Treant Druid) I don’t know that Galakrond is the problem since Priest and warlocks actual Galakrond play is already not very good. (Priests don’t even fully invoke a lot of the time and ‘random RNGesus demons could be insignificant) So nerfing the actual Galakrond cards to 8 mana as a few stated isn’t a good answer imo. As for the Necrium Apothecary no offense but I hope the card everyone is summoning with it gets nerfed into useless crap where cards go to die kinda nerf. The dragon draw sucks but can be managed, having 1 drop 15/15 charge boars on turn 5 is about as much fun to play against or fair to play with as it is if Mike Tyson walked up and called me out for no reason and as he beat me to death unfairly bit my ear off.
rant over: Maybe they should look at buffing the ‘good classes’
I run dragon breeder because it is cheap and can be comboed to play 6 scions of ruin on the same turn.
I don’t really get the other options you mention except for Barista, which I found to be dead in hand and removed after hitting legend with the deck.
why run voone or molten breath? You literally only have 2 dragons in the deck, both copies of scion of ruin. Why put in so much dragon synergy cards when there are so few dragons? XD
Actually I was looking at different decks and the one that specifically made me wonder about the dragon synergy and Voone the most was the one on the vicioussyndicate website which runs Big Ol’ Welp x2 and Deathwing, Mad Aspect as well. I was just curious because a warrior I met in ranked used Deathwing as well and used Dragon Breeder to duplicate it. That got me looking at decks and noticing the use of the value cards and the use of Deathwing in many decks but no Voone.
I pulled a gold Voone long ago and thought I was gonna have to jump on the warrior bandwagon to see the pretty gold dragons lol
Ok. Thank you for reading and responding because I can’t understand how the various deck builders, sites, etc determine this:
So in Glalakrond Warrior there are a lot of decks that try to maximize value by duplicating Scion of Ruin by using Dragon Breeder and or Barista Lynchen but not use War Master Voone for the same purpose. He’s cheaper than Barista and would copy Deathwing as well. Also like the minion that gives 3 armor and a lackey or Livewire Lance.. why not the deal 5 damage to a minion gain 5 armor or the dragon that gives you 5 armor. Like why do lackeys have better synergy/value than other Warrior dragon cards like Smolderhorn Lancer or Motlten Breath etc? Mainly curious about the Voone thing though

Necrium Apothecary if you land it is your bread and butter the rest of rage about so I’d be looking for it and low cost cards to fuel combos 😂😂
