Actually not true. I was thinking like you that it's not in the best interest of new players to keep just one currency (dust) for both sets. But if you think about it it's acutally better for new players as well. Why? Casue they can buy whatever set they prefer and spend the extra dust on the other set.

Operative word is "buy" there. I created a thread previously on money spent on the game, Many said they were happy to spend and others were also happy to leave it as F2P. I agree the dust gives you the options to craft both old and new which does help the beginners but the flip side is that there are just more cards now that it makes it that little bit tougher to catch up. My opinion is that if I picked up the game now from scratch I would feel I'd have to purchase at least 60-80 packs to get somewhat decent cards to build a deck that's competitive.

Your post and especially the last sentence shows an issue in the mindset of a majority of the Hearthstone community. Yeah you probably need to have opened at least 80 packs - regardless of wether they have been beought with money or gold - to build one or multiple competitive decks and that takes either a lot of time or money.

But this is a casual game and especially new players do not have the need to play a competitve deck. Netdecking became such an issue that there is the general assumption of needing multiple legendaries and epics to play the game which actually affects those discussions about the free2play model of the game.

But in fact it is very easy to obtain the base cards and a bunch of classic set cards within a few days or weeks of playing and people who just play the game for fun those that are commonly refered to as casuals don't need to have that Ysera to tech out their super expensive Control Warrior deck.

Money is pretty much an requirement if you want to assemble all of those competitive decks but it isn't when it comes to just playing the game and having fun at doing that, thats what a game is supposed to be about and that is completely free.

That last line of my paragraph maybe just indicates the kind of person I am, I'm competitive. I remember when I first started I got all the basic cards and then I played only arena worth about $60 to get the packs from it and experience. I still feel that option is viable to learn the game and build a collection as it did help me a lot. I had a friend who started about a month back and I would help him with his arena's when I could and granted he got a lot better and was getting around 4-5 wins an arena. So he would get 60 to 80 gold and then need to do a daily or 2 to get the rest, he was getting so frustrated going against net decks at rank 21 or even casual that he actually stopped playing. He wasn't prepared to pay to catch up and that's him gone from the game.

Casually I 100% agree that you can make fun decks that are playable and will get you wins here and there for sure. To be competitive however I honestly feel you have to spend initially to progress up the ranks.

^^ this is exactly what I did, Just played arena and did dailies for a couple of months and accumulated nearly 15000 dust and 4000 gold, so bought 30 packs and kept a bit for arenas and will just craft the cards I want for messing around on ladder and should accrue the majority of the GvG cards that matter and will just pick the rest up later. So Blizzard was actually extremely kind to let players do that. This favors people who have been playing the game for a long while and I almost feel like its some sort of appreciation to the gamers who have stayed loyal and continued playing the game.

The one issue I see for the growth of the game are the people who pick the game up now only, as they will be even further behind and almost have to invest financially in the game to enjoy the game on ladder. This will be where Blizzard will make up for the experienced players who have saved for GvG.

1/2 Novice is insane, draw card is valued at 1.5 mana and a 1/1 is just about 1 value so right now it is perfectly balanced as it can be removed by the majority if decks at 1/1. At 1/2 Im sure it was a utterly annoying to play against for so many decks.

I think the one card that has recently been over nerfed is Starving Buzzard. I hated the sight of this card with those dogs so Im grateful it was nerfed. I really think this rework could honestly have been made to 4 mana however. I havent seen this card since the nerf, like at all, not even in arena. Card destroyed (Unnecessary but I'm grateful. Hunters too much Ammo still)

actually a 1/1 is valued at 0 mana.  And card draw is valued at 1 mana (flare.)  If novice engineer would be a 1/2 then people would be like "I would run it over novice engineer."  However, I can see people running loot hoarder in deathrattle themed decks.

So Arcane intellect is not a card? Lay on hands? Sprint? Flare is OP, it should cost 2, for what it does and its the only card of its kind in the game. Yes the actual value of a 1/1 is zero but it also has some sort of implied value which as I have previously stated must be somewhere around half a mana crystal. At 1/2 the amount of decks that would run it is insane (Token, Miracle, Bloodlust, Freeze just to start. Its so much better then a loot hoarder as the draw is instant and 1/2 is a better body too. No hero power can kill it, statistically better then a haunted creeper according to your numbers......

Look all I'm saying is that there was a reason it was nerfed, The powers that be saw it and changed it to the shadow it is now. Rework it as a 2/2 draw a card for 3 mana, how about that?

posted a message on How do I play Druid?

Druid: Draw Wild Growth, play it on turn 1 or 2. Play harvest golem or yeti on turn 3 and then taunt forever and you win. Innervates help too. thats the one way, the other has shades and things that stick (Spectral, druid of claw, harvest, etc for combo finishes. (Force + Savage roar)

Another one and less dust heavy maybe is violet teacher token druid also quite fun. Also requires 2 Force of nature but 1 with 2 savage roar is acceptable. Your deck seems alot like an attempt at a Mill Druid, If you want to go that way you need to go all in with that, crazy fun to play but need to know what you doing.

posted a message on What happened to Arena?

I personally think that a great deal of players focus too much on value and this has an upside and a downside. The upside is that the decks in arena have less weak cards nowadays and thus from a pure value perspective even average/bad players can pick up a decent number of wins. The negative is that the players that dig a bit deeper and can see synergy and potential for decks to be played a certain way will always get better results.

I think the way to maintain a high percentage of wins is to obviously look for value but also and more importantly look for synergy. I feel like this is the difference between you getting an average of 5-7 which is great and 7+. Another poster on this Forum (Pilleri) showed me how important it was. Instead of just picking the best card every turn you should actually look at each card as part of a whole and how it will work in conjunction with the others. I generally would pick the best cards for my 1st 10 and then stop and see which direction I want the deck to take and look for combinations after that. I feel like there is also a bit of risk and reward in arena, I will often take a risk early on a card that I feel will have immense potential to combo with possible picks (Savage Roar for example). The chances of me getting force of nature are like 1 in 200 but getting druids of the claw and say bluegill warrior to combo/finish are much higher. Blue gill is also an effective 2 mana clear for the majority of 2 drops, so its versatile without being an exceptionally valued card.

I'm more of a conservative mid range kind of player generally but sometimes you will be forced into picking cards that don't compliment your play style, this is also where a players adaptability/skill will be tested. With certain decks you will forced to pick aggressively, where a Korkren Elite is the correct choice over say a Bolder fist ogre. I have even seen Trump struggle with this before where he gets to a point where he picks value/mid range and the more he picks he makes the more he realizes the deck is actually aggro and will go back and see that he picked to conservatively and he is a professional player. So this can be tricky but I think seeing a theme early can also go a long way to finding the best synergy possible in arena decks.

The guys/girls that can get this figured out wont see that much of a change in their results even though the standard of play and cards that you face are undoubtedly of higher quality then a few months back.

posted a message on Ragnaros should be banned from tournament decks

Ban Mad bomber, most influential RNG in early game! to OP please nerf, so sick of mad bomber hitting my worgen infiltrator on turn 1 or 2, game changing and it makes me SAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm done with all this RNG and I'm never coming back.... QQ

So ridiculous, its a card that doesn't need a nerf, its strong! this game has strong cards, must they all get nerfed because of RNG. Your opening hand is RNG, If my starting hand is perfect for early game and yours is all late is that not RNG favoring a side. No one complains when they win on turn 5 or 6 because their opponent drew poorly and played nothing. Its an RNG game, deal with it

posted a message on I pretty much lost interest because of Naxx :-/

I just play arena, win more gold and get to open packs at the same time. Just an all round win. Waiting till meta settles after naxx to go back to ranked, this weekly change up annoys me more. No problem with Naxx itself, really enjoy the variety it offers.

Turn 1 play leper gnome. turn 2 coin raging worgen and attack for 2. Turn 3 backstab worgen and play double cold blood for 24 and then sinister strike for 3, that 29 turn 3. then turn 4 you can dagger evis for 2 and dagger for 1 for shits and giggles

I know its possible for 3 lethal with Abusive but OP said turn 4.

posted a message on Evaluate Your Draft!

Think this one is reasonable, first time picking up 3 Legendaries in a draft. Normally Legends are quite poor in arena's but feel like these all pretty decent for this deck. Lots and probably to much early game, later draft didnt give me anything bigger to balance it but got a consecrate and the 2 weapons so hoping its ok. Think it should do fine though. The first game was gross, turn 6 Cairne, he/she Sunwalkers into my black knight and I turn 8 Rag, I said sorry and then he conceded.

Cards missing are 1x lights justice, 2x Argent Squires, 1x blessing of wisdom.

Is the lack of late game gonna be this decks downfall?

posted a message on Wrote myself a Tough Love Letter about raging at the ladder.

This is a brilliant article to read and right after I post here I am going to read the article above submitted by Equal1ty. I have this problem with HS, I have been playing for around 4 or so months now and season 1 i got to 9 and gotten to 5 each season since. I hit that 5 wall and the frustration of win/loss win/loss kills me, I tilt so hard and I eventually stop playing ranked. I am pretty good at arena and tend to do well generally so its always my fall back as I still want to play HS and do well so I revert to that for a few days, Earn more gold and and get free packs. I dont have the full collection but have all the cards I need to make any of the meta decks, I just use the excuse that I need to get all the cards in case. I have 5000 dust and no need to craft anything but still find myself playing arena more then ladder.

Im currently sitting at rank 6, was 9 last night and after just a few games I shot up. My thinking was that I better play arena incase I start losing and I get upset. This is "You Suck" mentallity. I have wanted to reach legend since my season 3 where I felt I could make a go at it but I have been my own worst enemy in this regard. I always want to find the deck that beats the meta and just waltz into legend unopposed, but its not as easy as that for most players anyway. I watch streams daily and generally make the same in game decisions as the pros but what this article has shown me is my 90% same is not 100%, that 10% is why they are pros and dont have the problems I have. I have this sense of entitlement and that I should easily walk into legend, I'm just straight up wrong and I need to change my attitude about this game.

Excellent post, needed to read this. Got 6 days to give it a proper go and not give up if it doesnt all go my way. If I dont make it so be it, next month is a new month and with naxx cards all sorts of possibilities. Thanks all previous posters

posted a message on For Those Complaining That Naxx Is Too Easy

Blizzard provided the first part of a product to the entire community for free, they made it playable and beatable for the entire community. They want the people that don't play all that often to spend that extra $7 - $20 to buy the rest of the expansion so that they can get the cards and enjoy it. Naxx was never meant to really compete with ranked play and Arena. It was fun to do and something different from the usual grind. I used normal decks and tweaked where I saw fit, took 3 tries on Heroic Fairlina with Zoo and i was down to 1 HP, gave me a thrill to get through that one. You can really make it more of a challenge if you would like it to be that.

I wish the people complaining incessantly would give this game a break, Some people are so unappreciative. I'm really looking forward to the next part and to seeing what it has to offer because I'm grateful for something a little different.
