Right now is the worst time with 6 sets in standard. The rotation with the expansion in april would be perfect.
Maybe Arena or Battlegrounds would be better until the rotation. But if you really want to, wait for cheap decks which will rise in DoD

As someone who has mained playing Paladin since beta and piloting Dragon Paladin decks since BRM my hype levels for this expansion were through the roof. I have waited for 5 years for Blizzard to make a dragon theme expansion and they finally delivered!
My excitement and hype did sadly dwindle down after all the cards were revealed. Only 5 cards we got that supported the archetype and even then, compared to what other classes got this expansion, I don't feel they will be strong enough with what we got earlier this year to make Dragon Paladin competitive enough. I am gonna work hard and try two variants of Dragon Paladin. First will be a midrange/control Dragon Paladkin and the other will be a Highlander Dragon Paladin (what I am most excited for and feel will be the best between the two)
My last hope will be the new adventure coming out with new cards we will get some stronger support cards. My hope would be for a solid 1 drop dragon and or a support card, and perhaps a card that can take advantage of Nozari and Nozdormu. Would love a card that made our battlecries affect only ourselves which would be amazing! Imagine a 1 sided Nozari and Nozdormu but requiring two cards to make it happen!
Time will tell! I will start crafting decks with week and experimenting with them!

It's less that mechs have been nerfed so much as other strategies have been buffed. The increase of Junkbot from 4 star to 5 star was a pretty big hit but that isn't the only contributing factor. Murlocs got major buffs around the same time mechs were nerfed. Primalfin Lookout and Coldlight Seer were both lowered a tier, allowing them to not only be purchased earlier but having more of them available overall.
Of course when murlocs became more powerful, menagerie also by extension became slightly more viable as well, edging mechs out of their comfortable top spot to where things were slightly more balanced and competitive. However, with the even more recent updates and the introduction of King Bagurgle, I think murlocs have now become the uncontested best strategy currently in the game. I think Blizzard took things 1 step too far in bringing up murloc power.
So, Junkbot being nerfed to 5 star definitely played a small role but ultimately it's the buffing of the other archetypes that's made mechs less competitive as a whole. That's just my 2 cents.

Here's my personal ranking for this set :
1. Ancharrr - If Pirate Warrior is making a comeback, it will be thanks to this card. Drawing 3 or 4 pirates with Greenskin in top of dealing damage is absurd. The main issue with Pirate Warrior was running out of pirate, it shouldn't happen no more with this weapon and the new pirate.
2. Kronx Dragonhoof - I believe Galakrond will be in a lot of deck, and in every deck having Galakrond, this card will be autoinclude. The devastation are so broken that you may even want to wait to be Galakrond to play this and win the game.
3. Dragonqueen Alexstrasza - Highlanders decks are already strong in current meta. With this, it add an another wincondition for free. Playing this on curve is almost auto win, as most dragons are big. And you get 2 of them ? Zephrys + Dragonqueen is enough reason to play highlander now.
4. Frizz Kindleroost - Another neutral legendary. If dragons deck become popular, it will naturally fit in them. Good stat for his cost and very good battlecry without downside. Decks with lot of draw will love to play it on turn 4.
5. Parachute Brigand - Weird choice here, but imagine playing Pirate Warrior, and having Sky Raider + 2 Parachute Brigand in hand. Your opponent is conceding turn 1. Not happening every game of course, but it will certainly boost the winrate of this deck.
6. Scalerider - Assuming dragons deck are good, this card is another autoinclude. It help you fighting early game and gaining the board back before playing your dragons. Best 3 drop in the game.
7. Surging Tempest - A fair version of Tunnel Trogg. Having another 1 playable drop is huge for Aggro Shaman, and this being an elemental mean you can curve well with Earthen Might and seize the board early and push damage.
8. Squallhunter - An unfair version of Flamewreathed Faceless. 7 health on turn 4 mean that it will surely last for 1 turn at least, which mean you can abuse that spell power, specially in Aggro Shaman.
9. Sky Raider - Simple but great card. Perfect 1 drop for Pirate Warrior. Remember how Small-Time Buccaneer strong was ? Well, Sky Raider is his little brother.
10. Diving Gryphon - Not flashy but very effective card in Hunter. You already play some rush minion so it fit naturally in every Hunter deck since it's also a beast.
Making this list was very hard since there is a lot of strong cards in the set, I think some cards will be more powerful than the one listed in my list, but I opt the safe option and choose the cards that will certainly see play.

I don't blame people who've dusted this card in the past for doing so. Weapons in hearthstone have historically sucked. Pirates in hearthstone have historically sucked.
Things have really changed since 2018. Pirates have gotten a massive shot in the arm with each passing expansion, and now weapons are becoming ultra powerful. Things like Kingsbane and Spectral Cutlass have encouraged building decks around weapons, which had been missing from a game design standpoint, and raiding party is really what holds all the glue together (at this point in standard).
It's a scary aggressive card. While the stats are average, and adding an extra point of damage is great, it's adding that extra charge to your weapon that really makes this card fantastic. I'm a big fan, and I'm glad that this card is seeing play now.
