Not trolling. I'm just not going to debate with people who ignore reason because of an emotional response. Banning cards is a terible way to balance games. Planned obsolescence is a tried and true way to make card games work, and you insist on ignoring that fact. Wild will still be the same as ever, and will be balanced by the developers. You ignore that fact.

I'll say it again: I'm sorry you're so salty.

Basic game design theory says (and game theory) that players who want to win will always use the best cards in their decks. That being the case, how do you get people to stop playing stuff like Loatheb and Boom in favor of the new stuff?

Ban lists. If you got an itch down your hand you cure it, you don't fucking cut your arm off and replace it with a new plastic one. This is no physical card game, it's a digital game: any change they do will instantly and painlessly reflect through the whole game without any problem for the userbase.

And no, Wild will not be "the same as ever". Less game design and more reality please, because anyone who says that understands literally 0 of the second.

Constantly nerfing cards without schedule is much worse than a rotation. I'm sorry you're salty.

I'm not gonna keep arguing this. They waiting to nerf things for all the right reasons. You keep being contrary, I'll keep enjoying the game.

This is the weakest argument in the history of the Internet. Read up on game design.

Yes Wild will be EXACTLY the same as ever.  Oh wait no, not at all actually.  Future expansions won't consider cards released in expansions that are only in wild (right now Naxx and GVG).  People talk about prophecy and all that, it is just damn common sense.  Use your brain.

I mean, that might be a real concern of Ben Brode hadn't specifically said "we will balance for both Wild and Standard"
Followed by "if there is an 1-2 turn otk we might do shit", or with other words: wild will be the unbalanced mess with 10 dr. boom equivalents in the same deck that everyone is talking about.
Also, if you are a pig do you believe the butcher that everything will be all right?
As of the patch, wild will have the same meta game as now, plus the next set. Over time, more and more cards will be release that interact positively with new ones. Then more and more and more until there's a whole  meta game of decks that make secret pally look like an arena deck, not unlike formats in a certain other tcg.
    sounds great to me.

is anyone else hoping we see some more powerful- "pushed" cards? Now that it can be taken for granted that cards will go away after awhile I'm hoping they up the power level of cards printed

More Sludge Belchers, less Chillwind Yetis.

Standard is THE ONLY way, outside of giving new players tons and tons free cards, to keep new players coming into the game and to keep the game fresh.

Basic game design theory says (and game theory) that players who want to win will always use the best cards in their decks. That being the case, how do you get people to stop playing stuff like Loatheb and Boom in favor of the new stuff? A long time ago, game designers would just make strictly better versions of those cards- what we call power creep.

having the set rotation keeps the game fresh and interesting without devolving into an overpowered circus. Many veteran game designers have written essays I this fact- and it is a fact. Standard is better for the longevity and the FUN of the game.

PS: we're lots of you guys hoping to get into the WCS? No? Then Wild will be EXACTLY the same as ever.

posted a message on Standard Decks

So instead of complaining about/Praising the upcoming Standard format I thought it might be fun to talk about decks  that look solid after rotation

The first thing that comes to mind is Dragon Priest. The Dragon synergy cards are all over curve, which is going to be a big deal going into a less powerful format. Not only that but the Dragons do a good job of filling the gaps that current priest decks are losing. Twilight Welp can be argued as an actual upgrade for Zombie Chow, and while Blackrock Technician is no Doomguard, it's a good 3 drop. I know we're losing Velen's Chosen and Light Bomb, but its reasonable to assume we'll get something powerful enough to fill out those spots. Priest still has solid AOE and best, most plentiful targeted removal spells in the game.

Shaman is the next class that seems likely to succeed in Standard. the current aggro deck loses Crackle and nothing else. Anyone looking to shoot up the ladder on opening day should start here.

Paladins are losing a lot of their meat and potatoes. Muster for Battle and Mini-Bot are huge crutches for the class in general, as anyone who played paladin before GvG can attest to. We also lose Avenge, which is arguably the best secret in the Secret deck. I can see something mid rangy working, leaning on Aldor Peace Keeper and Keeper of Uldamon to control the board. Maybe Anyfin is the way to go?

Warriors  lose Shield Maiden. That makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit. Death's Bite has also been a core card for the class up to this point. However, I think the class' card pool is deep enough to come out the other end. We still have Brawl and we can still gain enough armor to make Shield Slam live. Warrior has a great top end and is keeping most of the tools they need to get there, so it seems to want to stay a control deck.

The last class I want to mention is Druid. Like Shaman, it loses next to nothing. However, the class has been specifically called out by Blizzard as needing it's Classic and Basic cards altered to keep from leaning on those two sets so heavily. Since it's only rational that "The Combo" is getting nuked, Druids will likely be pushed heavily towards the ramp strategy it was designed around in the first place! Expect plenty of Ancients and Innervates*, and Darnassus Aspirents.

Some people thing Innervate isnt going to make it through the balance patch unscathed. I dont believe that the card is a problem and it's very emblematic of the class. If Blizz plans to leave Druid with it's Ramp emphasis, i suspect Innervate will hang around.

posted a message on I really hope they don't need Druid too hard.

Do you think they'll nerf Savage Roar, Ancient of War, or just nuke Swipe and giggle at our tears?

    Edit: Need=Nerf. You didn't know?

posted a message on I like the Standard Plan

*I have spent more money on this game than Xbox One. I'm invested.

There seems to be a lot of unwarrented rage at the  forthcoming standar system and a lot it seems to be based on the idea that we're "losing" a whole bunch of cards in our collection. That's simply not the case

First of all, as has been pointed out, Wild mode will exist and unless you're one of the handful of people that pushes for top 100 and WC points, it is just as viable a way to play as before- same rewards and everything.

for those of us sticking with standard, it may feel like we're losing a lot. But the fact is that we're gaining more than we're losing. Think of all the 7 drops that can see play without Boom. The five drops kept out of decks because of Loatheb and Belchers.

Finally, there's a reason 99% of tcgs rely on planned obselecence and it isn't (just) about selling new packs. As the card pool grows it becomes almost impossible to design cards that have an impact on the game without being absurdly overpowered and we end up changing our decks by a slot or two every set. Boring.

Rotations every years will keep things fresh, and provides a garuntee  that the cards we get sick of playing against (A certain Doctor, for inatance) will eventually go away. It keeps thing fresh, lets each set have a bigger impact on the game, and is more friendly to new players. This isnt just a good change, it's a fun change.

Plus, I get to disinchant a bunch of legends and epics I never play!

posted a message on Everything wrong with Hearthstone and why to quit.

Sounds to me like the dude just doesn't like card games. "Only the top 10% of cards are used" is true of any game in which you can choose what pieces to use. The community  itself is a non-issue because there's no chat.

How can he say Blizz doesn't interact with the community? We get like biweekly vlogs from the lead developer.

Its fine to not like the game but you don't have to be sanctimonious and act like there is something fundamentally wrong with the game just because you don't like it because there are lots of us who enjoy it the way it is.
