posted a message on The 207th Brawl Spectacular! Rise of Shadows Pack Reward

Two things I care about:  Which one is most powerful (to win the pack) and which one is most fun (to goof around)?

Anyone have thoughts (i.e. baseless speculation) or experiences to share?

    Cheers,

posted a message on The HearthPwn Tavern Is Closing Its Doors

So we're down the the final month of Hearthpwn... But there's a new website being run by the same people.  Bittersweet!

I'll take a moment to list features I'd like to see in Hearthstone, one more time for posterity:

-Tournament Mode - This exists in most digital card games at launch.  I want to que up with 7 other players, and compete to win prizes.

-Other Constructed formats besides Standar/Wild casual and ranked.  Pauper mode, No spells, No Legends, one of the Brawl formats... there are a lot of options aside from Casual and Ranked, which have the exact same card pools and rules for both. Maybe Casual could be replaced by "Mega" with 60 card decks?  There are literally dozens of options they could explore without any huge changes to the game, and hundreds if they want to get creative.

-Auto-Squelch - it can be deep in the options menu, but for those who want this, it should be easy to implement and harmless.  If my opponent has me auto-squelched, you don't even have to tell me.

-Option to craft card-backs - even if cost is high, like 3200 dust, I think they should open this door, at least for the monthly card backs.  I'd like the Pirate back for Pirate decks, and I missed that one.  If the cost is really high, you respect the people who've had them for a while.

-More deck slots, even as a purchasable option - Yes, 18 is more than the original 9, but there are 9 classes, and two formats, plus single player modes that require deck building.  Shouldn't we be able to build more decks if we want?  Even if only 5% of users want it, it should be so easy to do this!  I vote for 9 pages of 9, so each class can have up to 9 decks... That's 81 decks, and there'd just be an arrow to scroll through, either class based deck pages or just all mixed up so users could organize them how they want.

-Multi-player content.  Think 2v2, or 2vE - fighting the Lich King with a friend would be pretty sweet.  Fighting two players with a friend would be even sweeter.

-The Return of Adventures, which introduce roughly 20 new cards and have a low cost, shaking up the meta a bit. With the newest single player content costing $20, it blows my mind that they didn't bring back the cards, like old Adventures.  It's a fun way to introduce a few cards between sets.

-Monthly emails with stats (they sent me one of these, not sure what happened) - They've already done this, just bring it back!

-A "first win of the day" bonus, perhaps 50-100 gold.  This would be separate from daily quests, and in addition to the ten gold for three wins. Personally, this sort of gimmick makes me want to log onto Eternal and MtG:A more often, and I'd love to have something similar in HS.

-Other limited modes besides Arena, like Draft or Sealed - How sweet would it be to open ten packs, and then build a 30 card deck.

-Optional Chat - Sure, chat would probably be toxic.  But it'd be something you could turn on and off.  I'd love to be able to talk to my opponent when I'm in single-digit ranks, because we're both putting some time into the game.  At rank 20, I'd probably leave it turned off.  But shouldn't we have the option?  Granted, it'd only work if both players had it enabled, but some people actually like to interact.

-In Client Deck Tracker - Why should you have to download and install an add-on to see what cards are left in your deck?  Couldn't they add this to the game client, as an option?

-Dual-Class Deck-building options - Okay, this isn't as much of a Hearthstone feature as it would be an idea for new content, but it'd be great to build decks with cards from more than once class.  Maybe this is just the Magic player in me that loves making decks with two or more colors, but I'd love to see this in HS, maybe with the downside of having no hero power when you dual-class. This would be hard, and might screw up the balance of the game, but I can dream, right?

I had some more ideas, but those are the big ones.  To the Hearthpwn team, thanks for maintaining such a great website for all this time, and I'll look forward to seeing your new site as well.

    Cheers,

    Chantry

They already said that they canceled Tournament mode because it wasn't feasible or interesting at all. The community doesn't know what it wants, so there's no good way to make a Tournament mode.

I've played tournaments in other card games, and it seems to be both feasible and interesting.

While I can't speak for the community, I can say that I know some of the features I'd like to see:

    - Tournament Mode

-Other Constructed formats besides Standard and Wild

    -Auto-Squelch

-Option to craft card-backs, even if cost is high

-More deck slots, even as a purchasable option

    -Multi-player content

-The Return of Adventures, which introduce roughly 20 new cards and have a low cost, shaking up the meta a bit.

-Monthly emails with stats (they sent me one of these, not sure what happened)

-A "first win of the day" bonus, perhaps 50-100 gold

-Another limited mode besides Arena, like Draft or Sealed

Those are off the top of my head, not in priority order or anything.  Anyway, there are a lot of things HS Devs could work on that I think a lot of the community would really enjoy.

    Cheers!

The completionist in me hopes that you don’t get a card back if you buy the wings with real money, then I’m free to spend gold.

I agree.  I didn't pre-order the last couple of sets because I haven't been super-into HS lately, and now I'll have a hole in my card back collection... forever!

Maybe they'll introduce a way to craft/earn missing card backs at some point?  Even if they make them an absurdly high 3200 dust (on par with a golden Legend), it'd open the option for people who really, really want missing card backs.  Or different costs, depending on how it was originally obtained?

posted a message on Hearthstone Reddit Reaches 1 Million Subs - Blizzard Runs A Giveaway

    • Hearthstone Women's Wallet (2 total)
    • Hearthstone Men's Wallet (1 total)

If this was two men's wallets and one women's wallet, would people be triggered about inequality across genders?

It's neat that they're giving away some stuff, but this prize pool is pretty comical.  Sure, I'm complaining about "free stuff" but it seems a little pitiful.

posted a message on BY THE POWER OF RAGNAROS IS THIS WEEK'S TAVERN BRAWL

I can't think of a great way to break this format.  Seems like you just bring a normal deck, and games will go a little faster due to cost reduction on both sides.  Is there some broken combo that you could pull off by making everything cheaper?

I guess I'll jam in Lich King and Ysera style card generation cards...  Hmmm... Maybe the Priest Legendary guy that gives you free spells when you play spells, or Hagatha?  If someone has a really clever idea for how to abuse cost reduction, I'd like to hear it.

posted a message on The Best Performing Brawliseum Decks for Miniature Warfare

Tried a variation of the Rogue Shark deck, and went 4-3, which probably means my "tinkering" just made it worse than the one everyone else is running.  4-3 got me 175 gold and a pack - pretty sweet for a weekly Brawl.

Given more time, I'd love to run this a bunch of times, trying some different strategies.  Maybe the Hunter Quest, since you roll a ton of 1/1's?

To do it right, you'd need to come up with something that could beat the Rogue decks.  If you can't beat the deck everyone is running, then why waste your 150 gold?

Just play Wild rather than living in fear.

Absolute worst case scenario: you lose some games.  Whoa!

A lot of people take a standard deck and change a few cards, or brew up something fun.  Sure, you'll face some broken decks, but that's part of the fun of Wild.

Go for it, and have fun.

posted a message on October Card Nerfs Are Now Live!

Sometimes I wish they'd do more of a shuffle than a nerf.  For Mana Wyrm , wouldn't it have been interesting if instead of just raising the cost by 1, they had turned it from a 1 mana 1/3 into a 2 mana 1/4.  They'd raise the cost by one, give it one more health... Would that be worse, better, or the same?  It would be interesting to look at.  Maybe they'd need to nerf it again.  But by just adding one to the cost, it seems lazy and it's certainly saying "this card was too powerful as it was, and the best we can do is raise the cost to make it worse."

In some cases bumping the cost up without any other changes would be the best course of action, and I'm not saying the Mana Wyrm nerf was wrong, but aren't there more interesting ways to do these things?
