Stop trying to make Dragon Paladin happen. It's not going to happen. Perhaps if Paladin had more than 1 Dragon Support card introduced every Standard cycle, maybe even two in one expansion to go along with the first attempt with Dragon Consort , something might have come of it.

This foolishly brave sod trying to throw off the oppression of the Firelord grants Paladin am early-game defensive option in the vein of Wyrmrest Agent , which can build off their own assortment of Buff cards. Also, technically, Lifesteal as a Keyword didn't exist until "Knights of the Frozen Throne," but that card text was available on Mistress of Pain back in "Goblines vs Gnomes." Sooo....

"Stop trying to make Dragon Paladin a thing. It's never going to be a thing." But if perhaps we go to the source, where Dragon Synergy truly began, and planted a seed alongside Dragon Consort, in the same vein as Wyrmrest Agent and Twilight Guardian...

The flavour is a Dark Iron Dwarf seeking some form of rebellion against the subservience to Ragnaros. As for the stats, it's not the same "2.5 -> 3.5 mana" that Blackwing Technician has, pretty much "2.5 -> 3," but Paladin can kinda get away with it given their Buff spells, and adding a "Gain +1 Attack" clause might start causing the text to shrink (even if you contract "you are" to "you're")

Also, technically, Lifesteal wasn't "a thing" until Knights of the Frozen Throne, but Mistress of Pain had the Lifesteal effect back in GvG, before it was codified, complete with that text. Soooo....

posted a message on Preemptive Hooktusk Buffs

With all 135 cards now revealed, we can start making assumptions about how things will shake out, and...it's not looking so hot for Rogue's theme in Rastakhan. Will Gral and the Spirit of the Shark still work out? Maybe. Maybe. But as for Captain Hooktusk... Clearly, on her own, just looking at the text, that's an amazing effect. But the three biggest Pirates in Standard right now (counting Rastakhan) are Captain Greenskin, Cursed Castaway, and Ticket Scalper. One of whom you'd rather play than Summon, and one of whom already has Rush. The dream of pulling Southsea Captain and two Ticket Scalpers is real, that still sounds pretty strong, but it's the one scenario where Hooktusk's effect gets to shine. What she needed was some big Pirates she could pull.

So...whipped up some big(ger) pirates. Not to say that all of these together would've been needed; if only one of them saw an official counterpart, along with Ticket Scalper and Southsea Captain, that might have been enough.

Of course, with such a powerful effect as Hooktusk's you don't want to allow too heavy a swing, even if "busted" is the only way cards see play in Standard (or so the stereotype goes). A 6 damage swing from just one body might be just as heavy a hit you need, with some refresh provided by the Warlock, or the slight ability to go wide by the Privateer.

Of course, if you wanted to go big, wanted to go "stupid..." The Whirling Dervish, on its own, is one of those laughably weak pack fillers like Windfury Harpy, Grook Fu Master, or Stormwatcher. Not even good in arena, like the Stormwatcher....but, with Rush, and being pulled from the deck by another 8 drop pirate, suddenly that Windfury looks a lot more promising. As for the Cleaner, just a big old body with a more proactive Overkill that really lets you clean up your enemy's side of the board, probably the most unprintable card with Hooktusk in the game, but still in the ballpark of where Pirates would have to be for Hooktusk to reach her full potential.

(and because I was goofing off with Pirates and LoL art...)

"Your primitive swords and arrows are nothing to my space armo--oh god dragon fire!"

Who else is going to place all this loot adventurers keep finding?

Potentially force a dead draw on your opponent's turn, while fueling your own Miracle run with Gadgetzan Auctioneer or activate a combo whenever you need. (Also, why "Pirate" and not just a Pirate? Well, in the derisive words of King Togwaggle , "Candlebeard be thinking finding buried treasure make kobold a pirate.")

    Idea deux!

Note that this works like Spreading Madness, not Volcano. It can hit both heroes. Spreading Madness would be broken if it could only hit minions, but it's unplayable as is when it also hits heroes.

If it works like Spreading Madness, my only recommendation would be typing the "all" in all caps. That said, for a goofy, wacky card, hey, this fits the bill. Hitting the heroes negates the "maybe 7 mana" suggestion I'd make.

Honest opinion: Is the idea of potentially giving your opponent a dead draw while facilitating Miracle Rogue to a lesser extent too "unfun?" Or is it just the right amount of annoying?

(As for why it's a "Pirate" and not Pirate, according to Togwaggle's derisive comment, "Candlebeard think finding buried treasure make kobold a pirate.")

As for the Paladin DK itself, I think the power-level of the Battlecry is fine when compared to Shadowreaper Anduin. My main concern is the overlap with that particular DK: they're both 8-mana, with board-control Battlecries and 2-damage Hero Powers that are free to attack the board or the face. It's ultimately not unique enough.

Nnnnot gonna lie, I totally forgot to factor in Voidform when coming up with a complimentary hero power. So, in the pursuit of something more unique and novel than Avenging Wrath + Malygos in a Battlecry, I thought about a way to upgrade Paladin Weapons.

The trick is finding the right name for the Passive Hero Power; the idea is that, as the army of the dead fall, their fellow soldiers take up their swords to keep up the fight, and the broken weapons the undead would use to fight. Also balancing out the Weapon Buff Liadrin herself gives, whether +1/+1 is enough, or if could stand for adjustment (say, +1/+2 or +2 Attack alone)

Edit: Sooooooo of course, while I'm working that out (and doing other things), someone pitches a Liadrin death knight that does the whole "shuffle the dead" mechanic, albeit with minions instead of weapons.

I'm not really a big fan of the Hero Power to be honest. I was originally going to have Spell Damage +1 on the card itself and have a new Hero Power. The more I think about, the more I prefer Morgl. Although I realized Morgl itself could potentially complete Unite the Murlocs up to 7/10 by itself.

I do like the idea of it being Deadscale Knights you end up summoning. Maybe you could change it to filling your hand with those 1-mana 1/1's? Reduce the cost of the Hero as well down to Thrall level, so that on Turn 6 you could Morgl +1 murloc to open some space for the next draw, and then have a couple more murlocs to progress the quest, if that's your aim?

So I have two Hero ideas, one of which is pretty much based around the Battlecry, and the other based entirely around the Hero Power, and I'm wondering if either's a good, healthy direction for design. I put them under Spoilers to prevent flooding the thread real estate.

    Option 1: Hero Power

This spin on Magni is entirely based around his Hero Power, a 2-mana discount on Gather Your Party. And if you're running low on minions to Recruit, Magni fills your deck with a bunch of cards that are good enough to pull, being +1 Attack on Sen'jin Shieldmasta. Granted, Recruit's a mechanic introduced in Kobolds and Catacombs, and Magni would better shine in Odd Warrior giving how Tank Up feeds easily into King's Call once you've got enough armour and you're looking to close out the game or finish choking out your opponent. So maybe this shouldn't be the direction I go, since it's better suited to later expansion?

     Option 2: Battlecry

The very definition of a board swing; wipe out your opponent's board, and then keep denying them the chance to come back with a 4 mana nuke. Alternately, if you play this in a more aggressive deck, you can use it to slowly and steadily close out the game. Might need to be 3 mana for the HP, or 10 mana for Liadrin herself, but, again, this was one where I wanted to put focus on the Battlecry, and tried to come up with a Hero Power that fit with it, while also not going overboard with tokens.

Also, while I prefer the art and name of this version, it goes against the "cold of death" theme of the other Frozen Throne Heroes, so here's a proper, Death Knight version of Liadrin.

355 Taunt? With additional benefits?! I don't understand.

Am I missing something because that's obviously OP.

Yeah, maybe I should've made it so it can only be played twice, I'm still learning how to balance cards properly as I go :P

I think it's less the Echo that's the egregious part, more the 5/5 for 3 with no downside, when 3/4 is the "vanilla" base stat line. Unlike other card games, Legendary rarity isn't usually a free pass for a card to be strictly above the power curve, stat-wise.

Following the same principle, Priest seemed to be the third of the three major "Elemental" classes in Un'Goro, might as well give them some actual Elemental Synergy. And in a very Priest appropriate manner; it chains off itself already, and if you can keep the chain going, it's like having a First Aid Kit outside of the Monster Hunt.

As a Deathrattle that's much better. And actually really interesting; now your opponent has to kill the 4/4 right away, otherwise you get to make the favourable trade and get the refund, if not go infinite. Much healthier and cooler design.

I'll go with the obvious self replicating effect. A Goo/Slime of sorts seemed fitting, although it shouldn't probably be an Elemental given Acidic Swamp Ooze and Flobbidinous Floop aren't.

The way it's worded now, this is a self-bounce if you played an Elemental last turn, making it a 4 mana do nothing unless it activates a summon effect like Snipe or Knife Juggler. Was that the intent, or was it to add a copy of the card to your hand? In which case, you can go infinite with this card, always getting a second copy after you play the first, and then the shenanigans that can provide with playing multiple copies in a turn can get overwhelming. Not just for theme but for design health this probably shouldn't be an Elemental.

    Quote from Demonxz95 >>

Given that Priest was advertised as one of the main Elemental classes in Journey to Un'Goro, I'm surprised they didn't get any Elemental synergy, besides minions are just Elementals. So, here's some actual proper Elemental synergy for Priest (although they're both from Boomsday).

You may think that space and everything was Mage's theme in Boomsday and not Priests, but... I don't care.

The 6 mana 5/5 version seems like the more fun, exciting version. I feel like "scouting" effects might be overrated in Hearthstone beyond keeping track of the number of drawn vs generated cards in hand.

With permission to go outside of "Battlecries" for elemental synergy, I thought, "How about At The Start of Turn," instead? Sort of a delayed effect, but able to repeat, and even chain off of itself (provided your opponent doesn't remove it during their turn)

I'm just wondering if the Hero Heal alone effect is too weak, or if the mass heal First Aid Kit is too strong in the second version, given how much chaining you'd have to do to get the most of its effect.
