So I'm stuck between choosing a guaranteed 4-drop with slightly under-value stats and a situational ability, or gambling slightly on the potential of gaining a major tempo swing. What do you think? Please explain your reasoning. Thanks!
So I'm on choice #11 of a Mage draft and I find myself in a quandary. I like the direction this draft is taking me, but this choice is giving me fits. My deck thus far:
My choices for my next card are Spellbreaker, Mad Scientist, and Silent Knight, and I'm stuck on which of the first 2 to pick. Heartharena recommends spellbreaker for value and a 4-drop, but scientist is only a couple points behind and the potential tempo gain is tempting, especially with 19 more picks to possibly get another secret.
So here's the situation: as a relatively new player, I decided I needed to be fair and play at least one arena run with each class to see how I liked playing each in that format. Probably need 5 or 10 with each, but one step at a time. So my last 3 runs have been with warlock (ugly, ugly 0-3), druid (4-3), and warrior (surprisingly enjoyable 6-3). Having completed my stated goal, I purchased my next arena run ready to take the "best" class available. I thought it would be an easy choice.
Rogue.
Mage.
Paladin.
Many will argue about the "best" class in arena right now, but 98% will pick one of those three. So what the hell do I do now? Help me out guys.
Just finished a druid run with Ragnaros the Firelord. Out of 7 matches, I only saw the card 3 times, and one of those I tossed for my mulligan. The 2 times I actually played him, he was a 3-for-1 in one match and got sheeped in the other by a mage who had already played Polymorph: Boar and Flame Lance. First legendary I ever drafted. Taught me not to get too excited over one card.
Heh yeah, Rag is one of the best legendaries to get, but its by far no autowin :) Btw do u remember how many ppl got a legendary against u? If any.
None of my opponents played a legendary. Whether they didn't have one or just didn't draw it, I can't say.

Match 7: Shaman. Back and forth on the board, but slowly I fall behind and have no real tools to catch up. A Rumbling Elemental I can't clear for several turns provides enough extra damage to bury me on the board, and by the time my North Sea Kraken arrives, I'm facing a full board, including a Sludge Belcher buffed with Ancestral Spirit. And I'm at 5+1 health. 4-3.
80 gold and a classic pack. Thanks for the advice guys, I think I just need more practice with druid. More practice in general, really.
Match 5: Rogue. Opponent never made a good tempo play until turn 6 or 7. I was able to recover the board and close out the game. (Why, WHY would you coin Wicked Knife turn 1 and go face immediately?)
Match 6: Mage. Good opening hand with coin/card, coined one Spectral Knight turn 4 and played another on curve turn 5. Enemy secret turned out to be Duplicate when I killed his Spellslinger turn 6. Opponent played both duplicates turn 7, then conceded. Must have been fishing and missed.
4-2 now. That makes 4 out of 6 games where I haven't even seen Ragnaros the Firelord. Conclusion: one card may improve your deck, but it's the deck as a whole and how you play it that make the difference. I can say I've had a legendary now, but I'd rather have a 7 win run.
Match 1: Warrior. Going first I like my hand with Zombie Chow and Micro Machine to curve through my early turns... until he coins his /win axe. After turn 2 I'm behind on tempo, value, and card advantage. It never got better.
Match 2: Paladin. Went second. Missed my 4 drop. He didn't. Never recovered.
Match 3: Warlock. This one was interesting. I almost lost due to a knock on my front door. Broke my concentration and made me misplay, hurriedly attacking face with my Mounted Raptor instead of waiting to see what hopped out of his Piloted Shredder, which of course was a Whirling Zap-o-matic. Finally pulled rags, and he was a nice 3-for-1 to pull me back into the game, which I finally managed to win.
Match 4: Mage. Started slowly, with both of us passing turn 1 and hero power smorc turn 2 (leaving me slightly ahead). Board control went back and forth, as I watched him use Polymorph: Boar and Flame Lance to clear my taunts. I figure he's out of removal when I drop Rags on turn 9. Nope, baaa. Comes down to me having to hero power to keep him one point away from visible lethal, while I only have enough to take him down to 2. He draws and plays a minion, then knocks me down to one health. I draw my Stormwind Champion. Miracle 1 health win.
I'm starting to think I just suck playing druid. Maybe I'm too hard on myself. Anyway, 2-2 now. Here's hoping for a break-even.
Ok, completed the draft, and I have a frighteningly low number of 4 drops. Having rags may not do me much good if I can't live long enough to play him. Here's the deck:
Any insights or suggestions on draft choices are greatly appreciated. I've started drafting my decks without any lists or heartharena, writing down the choices to record later. You can walk with a crutch, but you can't run, and I want to sprint. :+)
Wow. I was planning on waiting a few hours to get a consensus, but based on the rapid and overwhelming response, I'll be picking Lorewalker Cho. Never saw THAT coming.
Just kidding. Rags it is. Thanks guys, I'll let you know how it goes.
So, I still consider myself relatively new, though I feel I've progressed beyond the "newb" stage. I've been griping to myself a bit, wondering how long it would take to finally get a legendary choice in an arena draft. I got my answer today. I'm drafting a druid deck (first time playing druid in arena, actually) and on pick #11, BOOM:
I'm leaning toward rags, but chrommie would be a big boost in late-game resources. And no, I'm not picking cho.
What do you guys think? Whichever one I pick, I'm going to need to focus on early- and mid-game for the rest of the draft, since this will make my 5th "big" drop already. Thanks in advance!

Forgot to include this for easier viewing. Look forward to your thoughts.

So I finally finished this mage draft (I get really limited time to play), and I'm cautiously optimistic. Heartharena rates it classic aggro.

Any piloting advice or draft commentary would be appreciated; I'm still under 20 total runs, so I'm still climbing the learning curve.

That's the way I was leaning, but the tier lists and heartharena had me in doubt. Scientist it is.
