This seems to be the best place for me to thank the moderators and all lovely people of the card creation part of hearthpwn. I havent been here since ages. Heck, even my user name is gone for whatever reason. Nonetheless, I loved the time I participated in the card creations competitions. Didnt have time to participate in the latest ones because of life. I always found enough time to check out entries of friends I made on this site. Thanks a lot for the awesome time we had!

Broeck, dude, do yourself a favor and get on https://outof.cards/. We'll be migrating there once HearthPwn finally closes in a month. It's run by Fluxflashor and friends.

Nice! Just made an account and am checking out the website =)

posted a message on [Expansion Competition Finalist] Showdown at the Battlegrounds

    The expansion background

In a war that has been raging for centuries, Horde and Alliance go head to head on battlegrounds to conquer lands, resources and... flags? Millions have been slaughtered and for long the war seemed endless. Until now. In a final showdown Horde and Alliance face each other in a final devastating clash. The Stompike Guard meets the Frostwolf Clan in Alterac Valley, the Silverwing Sentinels try to retake their land from the Warsong Outriders in Warsong Gulch and the League of Arathor defends what's theirs against the Forsaken Defilers in the Arathi Basin. In this ultimate battle history will be written. Who will become victorious, Horde or Alliance? It is up to you....

    Horde vs Alliance

In Showdown at the Battlegrounds cards will interact with Horde and Alliance faction symbols showed on the upper left corner on minion cards. These interactions can either be positive or negative depending on what faction is used. Interactions are based on rivalry between factions and teamwork within factions. Both factions have a unique mechanic:

    • Alliance uses a mechanic called Sequencing. It offers a bonus when a card is played as the X'th card a turn.
    • Horde uses a mechanic called Ordering. It offers a bonus to the next Horde minion you play.

Both the Sequencing and Ordering mechanic depict war strategies that could be used in WoW battlegrounds.

    Faction Neutral

Neutral faction minions can synergies with both factions. The can either use cards that Hate both factions, Buff both factions or Join a faction. The Join a faction mechanic is particularly interesting because it provides different bonuses depending on which faction the minion joins. In game, the Join a faction mechanic is used as a Choose One, see the spoiler below for a picture.

    New card backs!

(We can't have a new expansion without a card back right?)

     Expansion Overview

    Neutral Legendary Spells

In this expansion, you'll find four neutral legendary spells that depict the WoW battleground objectives. It includes the Arathi Basin's resource nodes, the Alterac Valley's reinforcement points, the Warsong Gulch's flag and the Alterac Valley's Generals.

    For the Horde!

Horde uses a new mechanic called Ordering. It offers a bonus to the next Horde minion you play. Horde will represent an army that uses foul strategies and devastating combo's. Three classes will be Horde: Shaman, Warrior and Warlock.

    For the Alliance!

Alliance also has its own unique mechanic. Its called Sequencing. It offers a bonus when a card is played as the X'th card a turn. Alliance will represent an army of noble forces that uses strength in numbers and well thought out battle strategies. Three classes will be Alliance: Priest, Paladin and Mage.

    Faction Neutral

Like in every war, in Showdown at the Battlegrounds, there are neutral forces. There are three types of neutral armies, each represented by one class; Faction Joining (Rogue), Both Factions (Hunter) and Faction Hate (Druid).

    All 84 Cards

    Neutral - Legendary Spells

I've created four neutral legendary spells that depict the WoW Battlegrounds. It includes the Arathi Basin's Resource Nodes, the Alterac Valley's Reinforcement Points, the Warsong Gulch's flag and the Alterac Valley's Generals.

    • The Flag depicts the war over the flags of Warsong Gulch. When the Flag Carrier is alive your opponent can't score points (your Hero can't take damage). The more faction minions you have in play, the stronger the Flag Carrier gets (depicting the teamwork aspect).
    • Arathi Conquest. Basically, all Resources are a 2 mana spell that have a different effect. If you'd be able to get all Resource Nodes you are a badass (and can heal your hero to full health). Because adding 5 cards to your deck is usually a bad thing (you want to keep your deck as small as possible), the cards are all slightly stronger than average.
    • The Grand Melee always starts in your hand and works quite similar as Quests. When you play it, a counter enters the battlefield, like the Nether Portal's Portal. It counts all the friendly faction minions you play and the opposing faction minions you kill. If you reach 16 the leader of the Alliance/Horde is summoned. Which is pretty strong.
    • Alterac Warmaster is the most easy legendary here. It's basically a 2-in-1 legendary, because upon playing it, you can choose the Horde or Alliance General.

    Warrior - Horde

    Enrage & Double Damage

For some of the classes, including Warrior, it's back to the basics on a lot of cards. I feel like Enrage is an underutilized keyword in Hearthstone. Therefore, I've included some cards with Enrage. Warrior also equipped with a new mechanic: Double Damage. This is a really powerful mechanic and can lead to some scary strong combo's.

    Shaman - Horde

    Spell Damage & Healing

I didn't really have much of a choice, of course Shaman is going Horde. Shaman has a lot of Spell Damage and some interesting and unique Spell Damage synergy. Because is Horde, there is also Ordering and you'll find some Healing here too.

    Warlock - Horde

    Demons, Alliance-hate & Corruption

Warlock is bringing Corruption to the Battleground! Two cards are added that trigger Corruption. Also, I aimed at providing more tools for Demon based decks. You'll find some Demons and Demon synergy cards here.

    Neutral - Horde

    Mage - Alliance

    Control Freeze

Mage goes Alliance! I feel like Freeze Mage focuses too much on OTK and we are missing a control type FreezeMage. In this expansion I focussed heavily on Freeze for Mage, without it be the classical OTK version. You'll mostly find control cards here.

    Priest - Alliance

    Horde-hate & Card Text Copying

Priest is supporting Alliance this expansion. It comes with it's own unique mechanic called Card Text Copying. It adds copies a card text from a minion and adds it to another minion. This can be particularly interesting with the Resurrect play style of priest and this can be used on numerous cards with all kinds of combo's. Next to that, Priest has some cards that are anti-Horde/pro-Alliance.

    Paladin - Alliance

    Deck thinning

Paladin has joined the Alliance and focusses on putting a lot of minions on board. A deck-thinning mechanic will help put spells from your deck into the battlefield, granted a higher chance of drawing into your minions. This has a good synergy with the neutral legendaries of this expansion (Arathi Conquest puts 2-mana spells in your deck and for The Grand Melee to work you need to put a lot of minions in play).

    Neutral - Alliance

    Druid - Faction Hate

    Spell Damage & Moonfire

Druid hates both Alliance and Horde for terrorizing the beautiful nature with their never ending war. I still regret the day Emperor Thaurissan went to Wild, because it killed the ability of making Malygos Druid work. In this expansion I've pushed Moonfire synergy and Spell Damage for Druid, so that Druid can turn out to be an annoying OTK playstyle.

    Rogue - Faction joining

    Repeating and Micro Decisions

In this expansion, Rogue is a neutral class that can use the mechanics of both factions. Rogue can use Repeating effects (triggering when a certain term is met). I love micro decisions in Hearthstone, they really make the game for me. You'll find some interesting micro decision within these cards too.

    Hunter - Both Factions

Mounts & Only Hitting Adjacent Targets

Hunter is the only class that uses both Alliance and Horde. They are the class that (thematically) bring mounts to the battlegrounds. The mounts are pretty weak themselves but over a stronger minion through Deathrattle. Also, Hunter has some cards that uses adjacency in a rather weird and unique way; ONLY hitting adjacent targets. Hunter misses it's targets in this expansion..

Neutral - Faction joining, Faction Hate and Both Factions

N.B. This Expansion Creation Competition started before Knights of the Frozen Throne was announced. A lot of cards were created before we new what the new expansion was going to offer. Therefore, Showdown at the Battlegrounds was finished as if KotFT didn't exist. Hence, there are no Hero legendaries, no Lifesteal etc. You will also find some deck examples below, but there won't be any KofFT cards in there. Finally, you might even find some cards in here that look a lot like cards from KofFT. In that case, I made the card before knowing about it's KotFT sibling. Two examples:
