if you're experiencing this problem even though you do not have the Creators Update, then you may have a different issue

perhaps try disabling streaming in the battle.net/blizzard app options

try visiting the blizzard hearthstone technical support forums, there is a stickied thread there relating to this issue that lists other possible solutions, although with varying success

if you do not have this option, then you may not have Windows updated to the most current patch with the Windows 10 Creators Update

oops, i assume you did it correctly, but i just fixed the instructions to include "click on Properties" after right-clicking on Hearthstone.exe

if it doesn't work for you, then perhaps next week (tuesday?) blizzard will issue a fix.. hopefully!

How long does it normally get stuck for you? For me it's about 20 seconds so i guess i don't have an issue? Allthough it used to close instantly.

it gets stuck "forever", definitely longer than 20 seconds, it would not close by itself
i use the game in windowed mode and windows would notify me that the program had stopped responding. i would then force it to close
now it closes in 5 seconds

According to the Blizzard Hearthstone Technical Support Forum, many people are experiencing this issue.  I tried posting this solution on that forum, but my posts kept getting taken down [edit: the post has been restored!].

I have only tested this solution on Windows 10, but it may or may not work on Windows 7 and 8.

Lately, I noticed that Hearthstone.exe was consuming more system resources and was causing programs that were running concurrently to lag.  I also noticed that Hearthstone.exe would consistently hang when closing.
It seems that these symptoms were both introduced with the "Windows 10 Creators Update".

The following are the steps to address this issue on Windows 10 (steps are different and may or may not work for Windows 7 and Windows 8):

    • Before beginning, run "Windows Update", then search for and install the latest update(s).  You may need to restart the computer after installing update(s) before a search yields additional result(s).  (Search => Install => Restart => Repeat until there are no additional updates available.)
    1. Close "Hearthstone.exe".
    2. Right-click on the "Windows/Start Button".
    3. Click on "File Explorer".
    4. Copy and paste "C:\Program Files (x86)\Hearthstone" (without quotations) into the "address bar", and then press "Enter".
    5. Right-click on "Hearthstone.exe".
    6. Click on "Properties".
    7. Click on the "Compatibility tab". (http://imgur.com/a/2OB1f)
    8. Click/Check the "box" next to the words, "Override high DPI scaling behavior.".
      • (This option is only available with the "Windows 10 Creators Update".)
      • (For Windows 7 or Windows 8, try checking/clicking the "box" next to the words "Run this program in compatibility mode for:", then click on the "drop-down menu" immediately below and select an earlier version of Windows, then skip to "Step 10".)
    9. Ensure that the "selection" in the "drop-down menu" under the words, "Scaling performed by:", is set to "Application".
    10. Click "OK".
    11. Open Hearthstone.

After I took these steps, Hearthstone now quits without hanging (sometimes it hangs briefly, but it eventually closes; I tested this many times), and programs running concurrently are no longer lagging.

Report back here if this works for you!

posted a message on Newfound Respect for those with Legend Card Backs

hey OP, i was wondering which midrange hunter deck you used?

I've been using SteveFrench's most recent midrange hunter deck and I am stuck between rank 3-5.

Also, how many hunters, in general, do you play against in the legend rank?  any face hunters?  midrange?  hybrid?

I would like to know which hunter deck has the best chance of reaching legend

posted a message on What are the top 5 cards from Naxxramas and Blackrock?

^ i am a f2p player and i decided to get the first wing of BRM, and then i went on to complete Nax

From how I see it, the only other cards in BRM (after the first wing) that are good are only good for:

    1. Dragon decks
    2. Flamewaker for mages
    3. Couple of warlock cards

Whereas, every wing of Nax has good cards

I have now finished Nax, so I am going to get the 2nd and 3rd BRM wings just to get flamewaker because I mainly play mage

I will not finish the rest of BRM unless I decide that I want to play dragon priest, which isn't likely anyway because the dust cost of getting the rest of the cards is very high.. and by the time I save up enough dust, I doubt dragon priest will be a top tier deck anymore

for now, I will continue playing my personally constructed mage deck and just keep adding good cards as I get them

as is the life of an f2p player

posted a message on Option to pick deck at beginning of game after finding out opponent's class

Oh, sorry about that, I should specify that you still have to pick your Class before finding an opponent, but then you would then pick which deck you want to use within your class.

posted a message on Option to pick deck at beginning of game after finding out opponent's class

I believe it would be good for the game if you were allowed to pick your deck at the start of the game after finding out your opponent's class (mage, hunter, etc.).  EDIT:  I should clarify that you would have to pick your class first, for example, Mage, and then once the match starts, you would be able to pick which Mage deck you want to use.

This would open a new dimension of strategy to the game, since you could then build specific decks against specific classes and counter the current meta.

I assume that, in general, most people have a 'main deck' that they play against every class since you cannot know which class you are facing next.  My suggestion would put all of your deck slots to use.  You would actually use multiple decks as part of your strategy, rather than using your main deck over and over, and changing to another deck/class when you get bored.

What this would do is diversify the decks used.  If you see that you are playing against a hunter, guess correctly that it is a Face Hunter, and react accordingly with a deck that is tailored against that specific deck, then you would be at an advantage.  Whereas, if you guessed incorrectly, you could instead be at a disadvantage.

I think it would be awesome if I could build a deck that counters these decks without having to play this same deck against every other class that I encounter.

People would no longer complain about Face Hunter, Secret Paladin, Patron Warrior, or any other deck because they would be able to play their favorite deck, even if it were weak against, for example, Face Hunter, without being punished every time they encounter Face Hunter.

Again, this would diversify the decks used.  I find it boring whenever I encounter a hunter because I can almost guarantee that it is a Face Hunter with the exact same cards as the Face Hunter that I just encountered last game.  I have a feeling that many Face Hunter players do not even enjoy playing their deck, but is forced to do so because it is one of the only viable hunter decks that generally works against all classes (since you currently cannot know which class you will be up against prior to picking your deck).

To the Face Hunters out there, I am sure it is not the most fun experience when you play against another Face Hunter.  My suggestion would allow you to branch out and try other decks and strategies to counter the counters that other players would create against Face Hunter.

I think this would be healthy for the game because you would then be able to use whatever deck you want (within the class that you choose), it would diversify the cards/decks used, and nobody would complain about 'cancer decks' anymore because you actually have a way to counter them.

The game would be dictated more by strategy and skill, rather than which deck you choose to play against every class/player.
