posted a message on They should auto-retire wild decks after a while

I'm getting a little tired of running into decks running GvG cards. There's really no reason these decks should still be around. If you have a deck with cards that old, one of two things is probably happening. You either haven't played arena for almost half a year, or you're intentionally saving an absurdly powerful deck for some reason - usually ruining some streamer's day.

In the former case, just refund the deck and have them start fresh; they're probably not too attached to an arena run they started back in February and didn't finish. But I don't think this is the average case, because whenever I run into a wild Arena deck, it's usually the most crazy fucking shit I have ever seen. Which would more likely apply to the latter case.

In the latter case, you just shouldn't be able to do that. You're ruining the day of everyone you run into when you curve out Avenge -> Shieldbot -> Muster for Battle. Or the mage decks with multiple Flamewakers. And more to the point, the main reason people go through so much trouble to save broken-ass wild decks is because of, well, this. Which is not really okay. In fact, it's against Twitch's ToS, and I'd hazard a guess that it's against blizzard's code of conduct (falls under the fairly broad term "cheating") as well.

There should be some kind of timeout on these decks - 2-3 weeks after the rotation hits, if you have an active arena from before the rotation, it gets retired, or refunded, or something. I realize this is a problem that eventually will solve itself, but I bet that in a year or so we'll hear people complaining about running into decks with Meteor in them.

Hey look, at best a slightly undercosted 5-cost beater that dies to most 6-drops and fireball, and which requires you play an archetype that does not work.

    Good luck with that one.

I feel like the lack of one-drops is going to hurt this deck against more aggressive decks. There's no heals, very few taunts... Pirate Warrior will eat this alive.

Paladin is pretty bad also at this point.  People are praising the new meta, but that 2 classes are extinct is pretty bad.

All-minions Paladin Goons decks seem pretty damn good. Good card draw, decent sustain... Difficult to win against Pirate Warrior, but the value you get is pretty nuts.
Also, secret hunter lists are worse than Rogue right now? I was under the impression Rogue didn't have a single deck that didn't roll over and die to Pirate Warrior.
    So wrong on both accounts.
Not even a mention of handbuff paladin? Weird. But thanks for the data. Surprised to see Miracle Rogue so good at the moment, it always seemed kinda weak to aggro.

posted a message on Why is "Curvestone" a pejorative term?
    Quote from evilcat >>

Players are salty about everything. Every deck i dont play, and especially one that my main is weak against are op, stupid and should be nerfed.

curvestone is not most complex gameplay, but if it wins whose fault is that

Well, if we're talking about wild... The designers. No question. Secret Paladin was a deck that was literally brainless to play. There was no challenge to it. Once you knew how to mulligan, you could literally teach a bot to play it, and get to legend that way. It makes the game extremely low-skill and rather pointless. And "curve decks" like that are commonly among the most powerful in the game. If it's just as simple as "Play all your cards on curve and hope your cards are better", then the game is kinda stupid, isn't it?

posted a message on Jade Lotus & Shaman Card Reveals: Jade Spirit, Jade Lightning, Aya Blackpaw, Jade Golem & More!

That's misleading though. Technically a spell that summons Magma Rager and Amgam rager is 6/6 worth of stats, but would you play that spell for 5 mana? Hell, even for 3 mana? Probably not. Because the stats are horribly awkward. In this case, played solo, most of the stats are bound up in a creature that can be offed by a frostbolt.

posted a message on Blizzard stealing our gold? (Heroic Brawl is bad value)
    Quote from ambershee >>

I'm glad they're doing something that will benefit more experienced players rather than cater to new players for ONCE.

Except that it doesn't, which is the whole point of this thread. With a 30% rake and an incredibly steep reward curve, only a fraction of players can get much out of it - and because of this, few will play it. Most experienced players also already have fairly complete WOTG collections, so it's even less rewarding. Almost everybody would be better off just holding on to their gold for the time being.

It's not about benefiting experienced players, it's about sucking as much gold out of accounts as possible prior to the new expansion appearing.
Not only that, but it's important to note that Hearthstone is a game with a relatively shallow skill curve and a ton of randomness. It's really, really hard to get a win rate above 60%, even if you're the best player in the world. This isn't about skilled players. Skilled players may fare slightly better, but they're still very likely to get screwed by bad RNG and not go the distance. You're not going to win this by being a top player. You're going to win this by getting very, very lucky.

Do anyone have any spreadsheet for the chance of getting each type of reward if you don't assume a 50% win rate but rather a 55% 60% or 45% etc. ?

How many players actually consistently pull off a 60% win rate?
This, to me, is the biggest problem here. This might make sense in, say, Street Fighter. It makes little sense in Hearthstone, a game so random and luck-based that most of the people who qualify for blizzcon are basically randoms.

Just for reference, other "playable" 9-drops will flat-out win you the game right there and then. Ysera is basically infinite value and very hard to remove, Malygos and Alexstraza end games the turn they hit the board, Jaraxxus is nuts on several levels, and Cenarius is also typically a game-winner. This guy is probably playable, but by no means overpowered. I'd say well done. :)
