posted a message on Faeria - Strategy Card Game (now on Nintendo Switch)

    Hey everyone,

Just giving this thread a bump to remind anyone who liked this game before that we are now officially out on Nintendo Switch and XBOX One. Later this year, we should also be on PS4.

Feedback has been especially good from Switch players. It's actually quite fun to play handheld. Keep in mind you'll still need an internet connection.

If you get it on Switch in the next 30 days on Switch you also get a bunch of free DLC.

Anyway, if you don't have any consoles you can pick it up at 60% off this week on Steam.

Again, often the best way for people to hear about us is through word of mouth, so if you play it on console and like it - tell your friends.

    Thanks!

posted a message on Roguebook - Roguelike Deck-builder from creators of Faeria

    Hello everyone!

I'm a member of the indie studio Abrakam, creators of the strategy card game Faeria.

You may remember my last thread about Faeria here.

    Why am I back?

Well, the first thread went so well - and now I have something new to share that is probably right down everyone's alley:

    Our newest project: Roguebook

If you're a fan of Hearthstone's dungeon runs or deckbuilding games in general, you might like Roguebook.

Roguebook is a brand new project we have available on Kickstarter for the next 16 days or so, and we're almost 75% funded.

We still don’t have the resources for any kind of massive marketing. It's word of mouth that has worked for us in the past, and the only thing we know to rely on.

I'm here to answer any and all questions you have about the game, and:

!!Like last time, I'm going to be giving away alpha keys for Roguebook randomly in the thread each day!!.

All you need to do is make a comment in the thread and I'll randomly select a few people to PM keys to.

To get things started, here are 3 for you. First come, first serve!

    • 0MKQD-3WBVM-EINAE
    • 0XWEY-RZ9ZF-LDTQ9
    • XB87M-AE2LD-IC7GK

You can enter these on Steam. (Please post a comment when you take a key so I know to strike them out when I see them taken)

So, that's why I'm here. Check out Roguebook!

You already have an Alpha, but are in Kickstarter?

Yes, but the alpha is made of cardboard and crayons. It looks very little like the image above, but has most gameplay concepts functional and, from what we're told, is pretty fun.

We need the Kickstarter to be successful for us to make the full game.

    What is Roguebook?

Roguebook is a single-player roguelike deck-builder that takes place in a procedurally generated world - inside the Faeria universe.

It builds upon the entirely new genre of card games opened up by games like Dream Quest and Slay the Spire - and, of course, Hearthstone dungeon crawls.

We're really excited about this style of game, and are putting our own unique spin on it.

    Choose Two Heroes

Boom. First step. Now you've got a crew.

Each hero has their own unique abilities and set of cards. Every combination of heroes behaves completely different. As of an experimental alpha patch today, each pair even has unique Super Moves

Here's an example of a hero and their cards:

Thats Seifer. He's kind of a jerk.

    World Map

One area we wanted to push this genre of card games was to have an actual world map environment to explore, not just a series of points or otherwise. Each chapter in Roguebook is a completely different area to explore with all kinds of things that can kill you.

    Gems and Sockets

Each card in Roguebook has a chance to have a certain amount of sockets. In these sockets, you can place a wide variety of gems to upgrade them in interesting ways. Gems also have assigned rarities. The rarest of them can completely transform your deck.

We've gotten some very good feedback about our gem system and some people say it is their favorite thing about the game.

Anyway, you can decide if that's true or not.

    Roguebook Kickstarter

To make Roguebook, we have set a €60,000 goal on Kickstarter, of which now about €44,831 is pledged. (Yes €, we are a Belgium-based company)

We need your help to do it, and we appreciate your support.

In any case, feel free to ask me anything and everything - or leave feedback and other thoughts.

Remember, if you leave a comment in the thread you could be randomly selected for an alpha key which I'll be sending daily!

    Thanks everyone!

I do have a question, would that key work on someone who owns Faeria but not the DLC? That happens to be my case.

If you own the base game of Faeria, the key should not work. Steam should detect you already have the game/DLC in your library and inform you of this.

I have another question I asked in the Subreddit but never got answered. Do you guys have any intention of animating the Mythic cards? Their Art I mean. Also, I wanted to know if you guys actively want your design to avoid Combo possibilities, specifically OTK ones. I'm asking this because I don't see that sort of stuff that often and aside from Aurora's Dream decks and a couple others I like to play, they don't seem to exist in the game.

Animating Mythic cards are something we've definitely thought of, but the problem is the sheer amount of resources it would take to animate all or even some of our cards. So the answer here is that we want that, but it's very difficult to say if we'll ever be able to. If we do, it would start on a very select amount of the card library, perhaps Legendaries only.

Regarding Combo OTK: We have had some very problematic issues with decks like this in the past, and we generally try to avoid anything where a player can set up a win in one turn with no possible counter from the opponent. There are still some ways to do this in a game, though generally they are more like "2TK's" with cards like Possessed Ursus or Ninja Toad + Buffs.

@Atmaz -  I'm really enjoying the game myself, but I have a few questions that maybe you can answer for me:

    1. I'm playing the free version from Steam, but I keep seeing a purchase option for the "Base Game".  Does this mean there are cards that I don't currently have access to?

    2. I know you just released the "Fall of Everlife" expansion and I wondered if I will be able to craft cards or earn them any other way than through unlocking the ability to get them in chests by purchasing the DLC?  I played in Pandora and drafted some of the new cards, so I didn't know if they would show up in other ways.

The game is absolutely beautiful and a lot of fun.  I also LOVE the solo content that is available.  My only complaint is that the purchasing options are confusing and unless I'm missing something I can't even tell in-game what cards I'm missing or how to acquire them.  Thanks!

     1. If you are playing Faeria at all - you already have the base game. One problem we've had with Steam when upgrading player accounts for free or giving the game away is that Steam cannot 'detect' that a player already owns the game, if that makes sense. If you already have access to the game, do not purchase it again - not necessary!

    2. You must own the Fall of Everlife to be able to craft any of those 20 cards (40 tomorrow) or to open them in Battle Chests. Pandora mode, however, will always provide access to all cards when drafting so you can play with them even if you don't own the expansion.

Glad you're enjoying the game, but sorry for the purchase confusion! If I didn't cover all of that, please PM me and I will try to work out what the problem might be.

    @OP

Thanks for the game. I just started playing it and it's awesome.

I just did the last tutorial mission. I kept the guy back that does damage to face when played as I didn't want to waste it. Turns out that was probably what I was meant to do given how the mission plays out. I won't say any more for spoilers though.

I love how you build a map and use different land tiles for Bonuses and stuff. It's a cool representation of how land types would look in a computer game I think, you did a good job with that.

Do you have graveyard or something like that in the works? you should totally do an undead expansion and add a 5th land type.

I will leave a review once I've played more anyway.

    Thanks again.

By design, there is no graveyard or 'exile' area of any kind. This is in an effort to keep things as simple as possible in a game that is otherwise very complex. That said, we're often adding new mechanics / card tech often and nothing is really off the table if we determine something will make the game more fun.

ah my bad, the yellow or desert represents the sort of undead and demons and stuff does it, or do you get bits of everything in every element type? Yellow seemed to have similarities to warlock in hearthstone I think.

Yellow does indeed have masochistic elements built within it - similar to a Warlock in HS. Yellow often uses health as a resource and is able to 'drain' life back to keep it up.

However, Yellow doesn't need to be played this way. Many players use it in 'tempo' style decks and it also has a very powerful Rush arsenal.

I bought the game becouse i was very intrested into try it. Few minutes to download the game and go.

Nice hub, very clear to find everything:

    - Top left the "game bottons",(Collection, Chest, Shop)

    - Top center the Play botton

    - Top right the "social bottons"(Daily missions, Friend list and options)

    - Right side the permanent banner of "promotions" (like the expansion and premium banners) even if you have them in your account (possible to remove them?) and "news" (like updates and so on).

Mostly i did the "campaign", 1 arena (6/6 wins vs AI) and 2 pvp matches (1 win and 1 lost). I can tell you my first impressions on the game.

It is very nice. Even if it's simple in mechanics (place 2 basis land, put/upgrade a specific land, draw 1 extra card or get 1 extra "mana" (called Faeria) ) it's also very strategic becouse you have to chose between them and cards sinergies/effects, "spells" (called Events) and buildings. Build the map fast or slow, ramp in "mana" and summon big minions or lots of them, move/place them on the map. Of course i don't know all the cards but i liked it and i'll continue on it too.

Only 1 thing isn't true at all. With gems you can buy the golden chest that gives you golden cards so basically, if someone wants to shop he can have all the cards with money. The good point is that even if you don't shop you can have lots of cards in few time (i have 100+ cards on about 400 in few hours of game) and the free craft here is very appreciated and gives a true hand to a player if he has the patience to continue in playing the game.

About the cards, i had the impression that the power level of them is very high and all the colors have good ones for what i saw but as i said, i have to know them better.

     Thank you for the feedback!

About Mythic Chests, yes it is technically true you could buy a bunch of gems and complete your collection that way - but it is very inefficient and not something we expect players to do. Mythic Chests contain many more things other than cards - such as avatars, orbs, cardbacks, wells, and lore pages. These are meant to be cosmetic bonuses, the true path for finishing your collection is simply playing the game.

Tomorrow, August 21st, we release 20 more cards in Fall of Everlife!

This next set introduces Subtypes in Faeria, or tribal synergy - whatever you'd like to call it. It's a big deal.

looked at some videos and saw the mana farming thing in the lateral sides of the board  and i have a question, Is the board set in stone or are there any plans to add boards with different layouts and different objectives?

Many solo missions have alternate boards - but multiplayer is restricted to the same board size and layout for all games.

The co-op missions also have a unique layout. Co-op missions are 2 players vs 1 AI, though you can also choose to play with an AI on your side instead.

How do you get cards to play? Buy them like in hearthstone with miney or in gmae gold?

It is impossible to purchase card packs (what we call Battle Chests) in Faeria for real money. All Battle Chests are earned through leveling up, daily quests, daily login bonuses, solo missions, Pandora (Draft mode), or Crafting.

In short, you earn everything from gameplay at a very fast rate. Battle Chests cannot contain any cards that you already have the maximum amount of. Once you earn every card in the game, Chests instead contain Shards - a currency used to purchase cosmetic items.

Question: How many classes can you put into a deck?

You can put all four colors in a single deck.

There are no classes in Faeria - but there are 'colors":

    • Red - Mountains
    • Blue - Lake
    • Green - Forest
    • Yellow - Desert

So for instance, you could put cards of every single color in your deck. In order to play them, however, you'll need to create the necessary special lands. This means you'll need to have a plan how you're going to get all done, and there are a lot of cards that help you do it.

    Quote from FunPolice749 >>

Just a fair warning to those who are going to look into Faeria it should be noted the very slow speed at which content has come out to this point. It's been nearly 2 years and the game has only had 2 expansions (one released in the last month mind you) that have given us new cards. Now that would be fine since the company is quite small but we have other issues that for me soured the game to an extent.

Hey, I know it's not really a question but I'd like to acknowledge the feedback.

The gap in new cards for 2018 is something we weren't happy with - which is why we're completing changing everything. We're committing ourselves to monthly content additions. This means we've released 20 cards last month, 20 this month, and even more the following months. Not every expansion will be 100% cards, but we totally recognize what problems a lack of new content can create. Just commenting here to say that we definitely plan on releasing more things, more often - starting last month.

Are their any plans to add an App store version? I'm going to check it our regardless, just curious.

This question keeps coming up a lot. I've answered it earlier but it's buried by now and  just in case anyone missed it:

We are strictly PC now. At one point we were developing for and supported mobile clients, but unfortunately the extra development load this creates was seriously slowing our progress. We do develop on Unity and a lot of people assume it's as easy to click a button to port to different platforms, but mobile in particular is a huge horse to wrangle and we have a very small development team. Satisfying the requirements of the Apple Store when developing new features/account structures in particular can be very taxing, let alone maintaining the app as functional. In the end we chose to make the PC client as good as we can possibly do and direct all focus there.

That isn't to say that Faeria won't appear on mobile in some form in the future.
