Even though the comparisons to Hydrologist are a bit flawed (Hydrologist guarantees at least Repentance or Noble Sac), it is a very good card overall. With 7 secrets in the Standard Meta, getting the secret you want is 42.8% for any specific one, 67.2% for getting 1 of 2 different secrets.
So, depending on what you actually want AND get from the Keysmith, the value of it being in your deck can vary. Getting a free Ice Barrier is very low value in some match ups/decks while getting a 3rd (or even 4th) explosive runes could be immense value.
Right now, I'd say its a 4-star card right now, easily less if Mage gets more useless secrets over the next 2 years.
Simply put, it doesn't seem that strong unless you do some crazy combo of frost nova + doomsayer the previous turn, followed up with a Archmage (or Malygos) + two Dragon Breaths to the face. All hoping that doomsayer doesn't get silenced.
To me, it seems very situational to be of much use outside of a crazy combo deck. Miracle Mage?
I just don't see this card replacing any of the other 6 drops in any of the current decks right now. On top of that, the whole "dragon synergy" doesn't appear to be stellar with the revealed cards. Until we see some nice neutral (or possibly class-specific) dragons, I'm really questioning the viability of this dragon archetype.
Doomsayer just seems to be such a forgotten card. Works okay against Mech Mage, as it triggers Mirror Entity. Also dropped on turn 2/3 against a softer Mech start (Chugger + Annoy, for example) and it could stall them from dropping a threat that turn + clear board. At worst, it forces an opponent to clear it with removal early-game + send minions into it, saving damage. Its not a great card, but can be seen as a "forgotten" tech card to help slow Mech Mage, those pesky Shade of Naxxramas, and hides behind a taunt well enough.
With the amount of Sludge Belchers, I'd rather run TBK than Carine. At least he removes Sludge on the same turn versus the next turn + more resources.
On top of that, there aren't that many 4-health mobs being played mid-game. Azure Drake? Void caller turn 4, Goblin Blast Mage turn 4, Spider Tank turn 3. Carine is too slow to be an answer to either of these. Also notice the lack of Argent Commanders? They don't kill much either.
The decrease in popularity of Azure Drake decreased the popularity of Carine and Argent Commander. They're starting to pick up steam, but most players still prefer the Sludge, as its a more durable body that protects their other minions.
Saying that Mogor is only slightly better than a Boulderfist in comparison to Dr. Boom/War Golem is flawed. War Golem rarely seen constructed while Boulderfist was actually played quite a bit since you could drop him and cast a solid spell afterwards (Fireball/Poly/Frostbolt+Hero ability to remove a threat). The 1 attack difference was not seen as a "bonus" to avoid BGH, either.
Mogor isn't as good as Dr. Boom... but there are worse legendary cards in this set. Mogor is a solid, playable legendary. Very good (not great) in arena too. Some cards are good in constructed, some are good in arena, some are good in both. And then there are ones that are bad in both. I'd be asking for a Millhouse buff... it'll get you farther.
At this point, the card is on par with Far Sight, or even slightly worse. Its only good in a very specific niche deck... just like Kidnapper (and yes, I run Kidnapper in a deck). If you are on a budget and needing the dust, go ahead and dust it. Most likely you already have something in mind that you want to make and will use in a larger variety of deck types versus this.
Yeah, its easy to play around since almost every mage deck jumped on board with running Mirror Entity in mech mage, especially so since its the only secret they play. Good tech to combat it is a Doomsayer. Burns the Mirror + everything on the board. Solid for a control deck that is having issues with so much rush.
I wonder if the deathrattle of Stalagg and Feugan can be triggered multiple times via Redemption, Ancestral Spirit, Kel'thuzad, or Reincarnate? Or summon multiple Thaddius via Baron Rivendare? Could see a gimmicky Shaman deathrattle deck built around such combinations.
After enough testing, I'm going to put this deck on the back burner for a while. The above form has zero ability to get around large taunts except making horrible trades. 53 games tonight, over 30% of the decks faced were mirror (roughly 50% win rate) or Hand Lock (0 wins). Beats Control Warrior, coin-flip against Miracle Rogue, coin-flip against Ramp Druid, auto-loss against Hand Lock (either they drop 8/8 taunts turn 5 if you push, wipe the board if you don't) - and that's 39 of the 53 decks I was facing. Since I'm lacking the resources to craft either legendary for the updated deck, I'm simply going to hold off testing this version of Zoo until the meta changes.
