posted a message on secret or druid

Druid if the more flexible, more consistent, more long term option, that's similarly in favor of applying lots of pressure. Its cards are more flexible, its style is better than secret paladin (check recent meta reports, druid is almost universally marked second or first), and with darnassus aspirant and recent aggro variants, is very flexible and safe and strong.
    Have fun!

posted a message on Paletress may not be the best legendary...

She's actually pretty good at the moment. She has a spot in a lot of control priests and dragon priests, one of which got to rank 1 legend recently, and others which have been up there

    She's good stuff, and fun!

posted a message on Least amount of deck diversity?

Over ~30 games today, I saw: Patron, all sorts of paladin, control warrior, fatigue warrior, totem shamans, handlocks, a few oil rogues, dragon priests, midrange hunters, face hunters, druids, and a mech mage. That's a fairly small sample size, and yet its still hard to predict what deck I might fight a lot of over 5 games. That means deck diversity is really high. Bad news for anyone climbing quickly, good news for people trying to prove their skill and adaptability, and for the game as a whole.

Class diversity might be a bit low, but that's a natural result of an expansion. You add more cards, and some classes get more better functioning options than others, and some tried decks before don't become strong until one or two insane cards are added (See justicar bringing about fatigue warrior).

Hearthstone has reached a point where a few decks are mainstays regardless of the meta, a few new decks are added with each expansion, and the strong classes change widely every 4 months. That's really good! Even through that, budget options remain powerful, and expansions are offering fewer and fewer necessary cards, and those that are useful (Shaman's new cards, bash) are really cheap.

posted a message on Experience with Blizzard Support after 7/8 packs containing the same rare.

Blizzard service handled you a fair bit better than most services I've seen. How else were they supposed to answer you than the way they did? They can't go into your account and give you better cards/replacements just because you're not happy with completely reasonable random results. If there is a bug (there isn't) then there will be MASS compensation, on a scale far, far greater than any negative you could have recieved over such a small period. And no rare is a bad rare when they are disenchantable for dust, especially in the context of you opening tons of packs. You've been here for 'years', by your own admission. This is bound to happen eventually.

I'm going to link to OP's post next time someone asks for a definition of 'entitled.', good lord.

posted a message on Fixing Powercreep

That has the potential consequences of:
Not demanding very focused and thorough balanced designing
Punishing newer players who want to use cards from any set
Potentially ruining a lot of the game's flexibility
and has the potential upside of
    ???
Power creep can't be avoided systematically, for a long term plan. It has to be avoided through assymetric design, and that's already the path they're going down (The fact that we have dragon decks, lots of dragon decks, that are par with their regular control counterparts speaks to the lack of powercreep in HS, so far.)
Giving players more tools, more ways to enjoy the game, and more ways to collect is probably the main thing they need to do, and they're already doing it with higher value quests and brawls and lots of plans down the line.

The ideal balance place to be in is an environment where lots of decks are strong, lots of variances of said decks are strong, and the inclusions of new cards will not kill any of these decks, but still add new decks into the meta. That's exactly what happening now that the TGT dust is settling.

posted a message on Why is aggro so easy to play?

The idea that aggro is easy is a massive misconception. The early minions your opponent plays are such big questions of 'do you delay your short clock to kill them or do you push and ignore the minion?' and understanding how you can get punished for both is a genuine challenge. How do you respond to a zombie chow, for instance? How do you pace your cards? The idea that aggro is easy comes from the fact that they're trying to kill you, but aren't you trying to not die in that position? Isn't the game equally easy for you if you're a really slow deck against a really fast deck?

Aggro is difficult. Midrange is challenging to pace. Control is satisfying. And combo has to be active. Have all the misconceptions you want, it won't change the game.

    Quote from Lellstjithole jump

Why do old standard decks that have been around for almost 2 years end up on the front page?

Because there's more to a deck than just the list? Because the subtleties of the list are relevant, because it's still very good and age of a concept doesn't make it worse over time. The list goes on.

Competitive strategies are important, and this very much represents one, and the new information is very valuable.

posted a message on Can we take a moment to appreciate how disgustingly sloppy the design for Rogue was in TGT?

Part of the problem might be Rogue's history. Before GvG, it was the most absurd class in the game. It had about 3 functioning archetypes, tempo, face, and miracle, and all of them were somewhat ridiculous. Prior to that, they had old miracle, and before that months and months of unstable, easily ridiculous rogue builds. Rogue is a class that, from a balance standpoint, is incredibly scary, and can function in so many different archetypes that giving them a tool for one might break something else.

How do you give Rogue good, fun to use, functional board clear that doesn't break Oil Rogue? How do you give Rogue good stall and heal that doesn't break mill?

Kkeegan's nonsense notwithstanding (saying 'ice rager is power creep' as your argument for blizzard not caring is basically shooting yourself in the foot from the start), Mill is a genuine archetype for rogue, and boasts ridiculous win percentages against slow decks.

How, from a balance perspective, do you give Rogue the tools to play a control archetype (one that was already pretty good at the start of GvG and hasn't lost much power, in all honesty. From testing then and now, control rogue plays and has winrates akin to midrange shaman just before TGT, and given that the deck was still popular and got very frequent legend seatings, that's nothing to sneeze at). Putting out fun, thematic cards that give Mill rogue an interesting board condition and otherwise provide a lot of different archetypes with tentatitve tools is a very nice way to go.

Giving Rogue things that are too strong will break the class and make the game incredibly unfun. It's happened before, and it can happen again. Rogue unfun decks have to be answered very differently than other unfun decks. Patron is answered with stall, board clear, large threats. Rogue is handled by going full face, hence a very gross period in the meta around may of 2014, which eventually resulted in the return of freeze mage. The approach of slowly giving them decent threats is a fine one to take, and in the meantime Rogue is still a top tier class, and with Shaman and Paladin on the rise, it's getting even better.

posted a message on [TGT] Top 50 NA Legend Hunter - Only 1640 dust

It's a somewhat unique list. Three different traps has been experimented with before, and it requires a lot of forethought, percentage-wise especially, to consider which ones pop out and which ones'll help. Bear trap is definitely an intriguing addition, how's it been working out?

No wolf rider and double quick shot is also distinctly unique. Have you tried Argent Horserider?

Who's stupid, the one playing "stupid" TGT decks, or the one who wants to take advantage of this by playing OP brainless deck because he's bad at the game ?

The player that makes the choice that wins and wins in the most efficient way is the player that's correct. Don't let perceptions about what's fair and what's easy and what's easy get in the way of a competitive mindset.

posted a message on Control Warrior with Varian Wrynn and techs for upcoming decks
    Quote from Raplex jump

I was rank 3 2 days ago before tgt got released. Then i score something like 0-10 against new shamans. I think control decks are pretty dead right now... I changed many things but not worked for me.

Control is stronger than ever, particularly against the new lists. Never equate short term winrates to long term viability.
