Midrange Shaman, Secret Pally, and to a greater extent Huntertaker were all decks where if they got the perfect draw/some sweet RNG and I drew dead I'd lose. It was frustrating seeing powerful on curve minions each turn, but at the same time, you could make decks to counter it, and, as Control Priest did with Secret Pally, and Concede Shaman does with MR Shaman now, effectively counter them.
Pre-Nerf Patron I could get the exact draws I needed and play perfectly and still lose. Not to mention, the one deck that could withstand it's OTK potential, Freeze Mage, would lose due to its ability to flood the board with Patrons and Armorsmith and win the long game that way.
Huntertaker was the most broken, however Pre-Nerf Patron takes the cake. Its winrate is skewed because it was sooo hard to play, but for those who could pilot it perfectly, it was near unbeatable. Secret Pally also was just as prolific but easier to play than Midrange Shaman.
What have we seen... 34 of 132 new cards? Do you get 25% into a movie and complain that that there is no story arc, no character development, and no ending?
Wait until all the cards are announced, and then wait until they are released and we can play them. Then come and share your judgement on the expansion.
Whilst a bunch of legendaries and rares are needed for some decks, there are plenty of competitive decks that don't require them. Zoo, Midrange Shaman, Midrange Hunter, even Tempo Mage all can be done for fairly cheap, and are competitive against most decks. Pick one, get good at it, and then slowly chip away at your collection.
