posted a message on Did you pre-purchase Mean Streets of Gadgetzan?

After being FTP until just before BRM I now spend real money on adventures and Xpac pre-orders. The 50 + however much gold I've saved is always enough for me to keep up with the meta at a competitive level, plus craft some cards for fun. That's all I can ask for.

In a buff deck I can't see this being better than Weasel Tunneler. That said, happy with the design, and think it will find play in MR Hunter, particularly as a budget replacement.

Game Designer Dean "Iksar" Ayala: "Also because when I playtest things I have multiple accounts and I tend to be playing multiple games at once. With the Patches deck with Gang Up and holding back a bunch of cards and waiting to combo. That deck is so hard to play! It is maybe the single hardest deck to play that I've playtested in the last year."

    They playtest the game.

Do you even know why pirate rogue was (and will be) unplayable? Right, the card draw. You cant use Sprint by it self without Preparation, and u dont need prep alone in zoo-deck. Use goblins? Nah, its not a spell deck. Something like Loot Hoarder? Nope. Pirate rogue will be playing when we get back that 1 mana spell from alpha: draw a card, combo: draw 2 cards instead.

Pirate Warrior works without card draw. If Pirate Rogue takes an aggressive route you go all in on killing them quickly, or accept the loss and move on. Zoo is a board control deck more than anything, which I don't think Pirates are suited for.

The legendaries in this set are kinda lackluster imo

I feel a lot of them aren't overpowered, but just generally good cards that you want in your deck. I think it will be harder to justify crafting them in the same way it's always lame to craft Thalnos when there are so many 'cooler' legendaries, but the effects themselves will warrant a place.

As much as I like Small-Time Buccaneer I feel that Southsea Captain is a better first pirate play because of the value you get with Patches. Not sure how the combinations of Patches + early game pirates will work out, will need to test.

Is a +1/+1 buff to Patches really worth waiting on playing your pirates until T3?
I thought it was +2/+2 for some reason. Probably not in that case.

Mayor Noggenfogger will make a difference if random truly is random, and it can hit friendly minions.

I think Weasel Tunneler is a sleeper that will find a place in a few decks, particularly goon decks where you get to play a 3/3 for 1, but your opponent gets a dead draw.

Packs 80-90 (preorder plus around 3.5k gold, plus I'm going to wait until then to open my Rank 5 chest).

    Wishlist:

Legendary: Kazakus, Don Hancho, Aya Blackpaw, Wrathion, Raza the Chained, Inkmaster Solia, Whiteyes, Genzo the Shark

Epic: Dragonfire Potion, Defias Cleaner, Small Time Recruits, Rat Pack, Mana Geode, Dirty Rat, Weasel Tunneler

Considering my past few xpac launches has convinced me that the pity timer doesn't exist I'm hoping for it to statistically even out now.

This isn't WoW. You lose nothing if your class gets passed over buffwise or shit on nerfwise. Time, effort, and money is very rarely on the line in these expansions in regards to a single class.

Years of work are undone if rogue got this same treatment in WoW, but in HS it's incredibly easy to just PLAY ANOTHER CLASS.

Seriously. Play another similar class like Priest or Druid until the wave of broken Rogue cards comes around next expansion. It'll be okay, the world won't be over in the Spring.

The most fun I have in Hearthstone is picking a deck that counters the meta. I remember the first time I hit legend I have been bouncing around Rank 2 all day, noticed on my deck tracker that nothing I was playing against countered Face Hunter, switched and went 11-2 in an hour. Been bouncing around Heavy Control Decks which counter MR Shaman now, and Malyrogue when I'm hitting a bunch of mirrors. Sure sometimes I want to play a certain deck and a certain class, but I enjoy winning more, and will always be looking for the opportunity to win more easily than get frustrated playing a deck I enjoy into hard counter after hard counter.

And I get that people are tired with Miracle, but Questing Adventurer/Leeroy/Malygos variants are all good decks. Burgle has its moments, Aggro is viable in certain metas, and Mill is hella fun. I'm holding off judgement on Stealth and Jade variants until the dust settles after launch, but I think that rogue will be okay.

Here's what I'm going to give a whirl on launch. More minion centric, which may or may not work, but death rattle focus makes for a sticker board.

Hmm... I think you've got the Weasel Tunneler in the wrong class.  I think it will be most beneficial in Paladin where you can tutor it out using Small-Time Recruits, buff it with Grimy Goons shenanigans, and then even use Getaway Kodo to return it to your hand as well as their deck (I think it would work), where you can use it to continue trolling your opponent and prevent them from ever drawing into their win condition.

Nah man, Hunter is where you want to be. The beast synergy means you can play a decent minion with the hand buff beast cards, while your opponent gets a mediocre 1/1.

posted a message on What defines skill at this point?

Everyone saying "avoid Shaman" and "get lucky" must be having a grand old time at Rank 20.

I'd go one step beyond some of the good answers already said here about deck knowledge (yours and your opponents), playing your outs, and adjusting your win condition, to add meta awareness. For everyone crying about Shaman there are people playing hard counters, or teching their decks to make the matchup favourable. When you get hit by a Secret Eater when you're playing Secret Hunter you're playing against someone who has thought about their deck, and made conscious decisions in deck building to make the matchup against yours better.

Finally, and probably the most important point, skilled players evaluate their games, and plays, and consider what they could have done differently to win. Sometimes the Rag you Mulched gave the Shaman King Krush for exact lethal, but more often than not there are key turns playing one way could have had a different outcome. Even if you aren't 'misplaying' in these circumstances, considering all the possibilities, and recognising after the fact that a different line could have given you the win will help you become a better player than going "nerf shamans pls".

It's true. The problem with Secret Paladin in its prime wasn't a swing Challenger turn (because you could prepare for them and choose the order in which to trigger secrets), it was the fact that by that point they'd have a Minibot, a few recruits, Shredder and Belcher on board. MC on an empty board could usually be dealt with fairly easy by most classes. It was turns 1-5 that made it oppressive.
