    The Arcanist class

    Introducing First Arcanist Thalyssra

I would rather die a nightborne than live a single day as a Legion slave. (More on Lore HERE )

The Arcanist is a master of the Arcane, being able to store it in the form of Mana Crystals to later unleash it's power. It's a class capable of high tempo plays and powerful combos. Being able to store Mana for next turn to cheat out an expensive minion or spell can often change the tide of battle. She's very versatile and full of surprises.

The Hero Power is basically a delayed coin. You only get the extra Mana for your next turn. Multiple effects can stack and you can gain more than 10 Mana Crystals in a turn using your Hero Power. A lot of class minions work with and of these effects:

Ley Walker is a simple example of a basic Arcanist minion. Virtually a 3/3 for 2 Mana but you can only play it in certain situations. You can only refresh Mana Crystals if they are emptied.

Mana Fiend is another great example of how Arcanist works. Gaining Mana Crystals (even temporary ones) feeds him and makes him grow bigger. Both permanent and temporary ones (like the one from your hero power or the coin) work.

Sleeping is a new keyword introduced with the Arcanist class. It is basically the opposite of Charge . Minions that are summoned and can't attack on the turn they were played are Sleeping. There is even a nice ingame effect to indicate that. This isn't a very complex keyword but some cards like the Ley Walker work very well with it.

Mark of the Nightfallen and Drowsy Guardian demonstrate the use of the keyword. They can both be very powerful with the right set-up but are mediocre on their own.

I hope you like my submission and may the best one win :)

    Edit: Minor adjustments

posted a message on Wolves in the Woods - A Card Design Competition (Discussion Topic)

First post after a long time. I've tried to stick to the exploration theme of Un'Goro set by nurgling. I'm not sure about the name but I love the art and the overall flavour. I'd argue it is balanced since adapt costs about 1 mana but adapting twice opens up new possibilities. The second option might seem more powerful than Evolving Spores which it probably is but it is only limited to class cards and the worgen keyword makes it less reliable. What do you think?

Since Warlock isn't getting much of Elemental synergy, why not use them to make Discardlock more stable:

I think that the zero control over what you discard is what's holding Discardlock back. This card doesn't let you choose but you always know what you're going to discard.

posted a message on Class Development and Discussion Thread!! EVERYONE GET IN HERE!!!

Hello everyone. I don't usually take part in discussions on this forum but I really like the guide Odinson put together and so I went ahead and started working on a new class concept. I am very interested in advice and critisizm from you, more seasoned card and class designers. I will try to write down the thought process behind the cards and the class as a whole. If you are not interested in that feel free to skip this. I will put the rest in a spoiler. (also not a native speaker, excuse the mistakes)

The idea: I'm not very good at making background stories and Lore, neither do I know much about Warcraft so I won't even try to make much of a story at this point. I really like the idea of making a vampire class so I did! Flavour-wise that means a lot of blood, sharp teeth and bats.

The hero power: First I wanted to go overboard and make a crazy original hero power but then I decided I's rather stick to a more balanced one (I'm pretty sure someone somewhere made a class with this hero power but I haven't seen one like that yet so please believe me, no plagiarism here). In my opinion, 'Give your hero +2 Attack this turn.' is very balanced compared to the other hero powers. Let's take a look:
Mage - It is true my hero power deals more damage but is blocked by Taunts and you also take damage if attacking a minion.
Hunter - Deals the same amount of damage but is less versatile but again you take damage when attacking a minion with your hero and a taunt can block face.
Druid - Probably the closest one to my hero power. It is true my deals more damage but unlike the Druid's it can be useless if you are blocked by a big taunt you don't want to attack. (Also compared to Claw, minus one mana, minus two armor seems alright)

The general gameplay: The Vampire won't have weapons but attacking with your hero will be a big part of the gameplay. Another common thing will be healing your hero (since you will need a lot of it). Third main mechanic is summoning Bats. 1/1 minions to swarm the board with (and possibly use them to heal you up).

    The cards:

    Be My Shield
I'm still figuring out how to make this one work flavour-wise but I really like this card. The versatility is great. Either you hide behind a big friendly minion or you bring out an enemy minion hiding behind an enemy taunt. All that and you also draw a card. Who wouldn't want that? Still I'd argue it is pretty balanced compared to Power word: Shield.
    Bloody Kiss
This card captures the very core of this class. Deal damage and heal up. Balancing this was a tough call. On one hand Drain Life exists but that card never sees plays so making a more powerful one should be okay. On the other hand there is Shield bash which is a pretty good card. So I did something in between making it 4 damage and 4 health for 4 mana but it can only target minions. I might readjust this later on.
    Overpower
This is bit of a niche card, similar to Shield slam in a way. The hero power won't be the only way for the Vampire to gain attack so there might be some combos to get a lot of value from this card. I think it might even be a little underpowered. Also I need to find better art.

    Blood Collector
A very powerful card that just makes everything come together. Hopefully the text isn't too long for a basic card. Not much more to add here.
    Boiling Blood
I wanted to make a card that gives you something for a little sacrifice. It can be comboed with Overpower or even Blood Collector or used to kill a minion. Might be a bit overpriced but I wanted it to feel different from existing cards.
    Slake the Thirst
This card is pretty straightforward. I hope the text makes sense, it might be a little too long for a basic card. I might move it to Classic.

    Vampire Bat
A fairly simple minion. He sucks the blood of his victims, obviously. With 1 health he is very easy to take down so I don't think it's too powerful.
    Feel the Pain
A card not very interesting on it's own but combine it with some other cards and you have yourself some pretty cool plays. My only concern is that it might enable some nasty OTKs. Also it should maybe read until the end of turn?
    Master's Call
First card of the set producing bats. Those will appear more later on with some cool synergies or as dummies for Slake the Thirst. Arguably a little underpowered. Also is this wording better than 'Summon seven 1/1 bats'?

    Night Watcher
The third and last basic minion. A little similar to Silver Hand Knight. Also gives you bats.

    + the token

If you've read all of this, Thank You! What do you think? Should I go ahead and try the Classic set or should I scrap it and try something different? All responses are very appreciated.

    Have a nice day!
