The timing of these nerfs is the most annoying part to me, people just crafted new decks after the expansion. Problem with these nerfs is they didn't weaken archetypes, they destroyed them completely. You can't replaced a nerfed card with something else so you'll have to change the deck entirely, thus costing more dust should new cards be crafted.
All the decks they nerfed had essentially no new cards from the expansion. Unless people were new players they would've already had these cards and didn't waste dust crafting decks effected by the changes.
Been playing Kripps dragon warrior (his was slightly more refined than my own original version) and have gone something like 10-1. Only loss was to a refined deathrattle rogue deck. Dragon Roar is ridiculously good. I think the worst pull I've gotten out of it in a dozen uses was Cobalt Scalebane and Nightmare Amalgam lol
Also, Crowd Roaster is way better than people expected imo
Same reason that Blood Knight is suddenly back......Giggling Inventor. It's played in a large number of defensive and offensive decks and guarantees an MC tech trigger unless your opponent had an empty board.
Zoo isn't even that crazy. Sure it's one of the top decks right now, but thats because other decks haven't been refined yet. Aggro always dominates in the beginning
What's funny is I've been playing maly rogue, which shows only a 40% winrate, but I'm 9-5 with it(Haven't had much time to play since release). Must be a lot of either unlucky or unskilled players using it...
Is this really a problem? All other archtypes have had one or more periods in the meta where that one archtype had a monopoly, so to speak, on what was the most consistent competitive deck for multiple seasons.
Control - Control Warrior, Control Lock, Jade Druid, Reno Lock
"Combostone" is just the HS equivalent of WoW's balance model of 'taking turns' (ie Pass the power to someone other than the last person who had it, just to pass it again to someone else after a time.)
It just feels bad to create a heavy control style deck because, sure it'll beat aggro, but it'll be an auto lose to combo. I know this is a rock paper scissors style of game, but the efficiency of combo decks seems to be higher than it ever has been before....and I've been playing since the second month of launch.
Are you serious? All the tier 1 decks you mentioned play more as aggro decks than midrange with the exception of maybe odd mech paladin...
Combo decks aren't even close to being refined and still boasting close to 50% WR. That's with the meta being fresh and aggro being the most dominant it typically ever is. Once it slows down a little you'll see those winrates spike for combo decks.
Seems like if you aren't playing an aggro deck that the only viable decks are combo ones. Maly rogue, shudderwock, mecha'thun warlock/druid/priest, test subject priest... the list goes on. Most midrange or control decks seem to have no place in the meta from what I've seen.
Looking for feedback on this deck and curious if you guys think control paladin will make a comeback this expansion. If you click on the deck link I have a detailed description of mulligan, gameplan, and card choices.

Either odd paladin or odd rogue. Been beating both quite consistently with that weird maly rogue otk deck.

Did you even do the numbers on it Inverna? 21 out of the 30 cards in even shaman cost 4 or less...
They play those bigger cards as a way to still pose a threat if the opponent makes it to the late game. So 3 aggro and 1 midrange.

The Soularium already had a fun moment with it in my wild discolock deck when I played it and drew Silverware Golem, Clutchmother Zavas, and Silverware Golem LOL
